Matt Kemp was removed from Friday's game against the Giants in the third inning after aggravating his shoulder injury.

Kemp immediately grasped his bad shoulder after a swing in the second inning, and had the training staff come out to check on him. While he finished the at-bat and ran the bases for himself, he was removed for a pinch-hitter his next time up. The team should release an update on his status shortly.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have received trade inquiries on Mike Napoli.

Given their lack of right-handed power and the fact that Napoli is under contract next season, they seem unlikely to move him. Napoli also has a limited no-trade clause. However, it's always possible someone will blow the Red Sox away with an offer. If they club did move Napoli, they could transition Will Middlebrooks over to first base.

Gerrit Cole (lat) will throw a 20-25 pitch bullpen session on Thursday.

The Pirates are taking it one step at a time with the young right-hander, as they won't decide what next to do with Cole until after Thursday's side session. We do know that Cole will not return on July 20 when first eligible, but a timetable has yet to be mapped out. He's dealing with tightness in his right lat.

Pirates activated LHP Francisco Liriano from the 15-day disabled list.

Liriano will make his return to the Pirates' rotation on Sunday against the Reds after missing a month with a strained left oblique. He held a 4.60 ERA before going on the DL but is probably worth starting in fantasy leagues immediately against a Reds lineup that's missing a couple key pieces.

Evan Gattis (back) could begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rome as soon as Tuesday.

Gattis took batting practice Friday for the first time since landing on the disabled list last month with a bulging thoracic disc in his back. He felt good and is almost ready for game action. "He’ll do the same (workout) today, and then just keep ramping him up that way," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday morning. "(Rome) doesn’t play Monday; they play Tuesday. But we haven’t talked about any of that (rehab assignment) stuff yet. Maybe he comes in today and it’s gotten a little sore and (he says) I don’t want to do all that stuff. But I think it was encouraging what he was able to do (Friday)."

The Braves are expected to designate Dan Uggla for assignment prior to Sunday's game.

The club has yet to announce a corresponding move after calling up Phil Gosselin late Saturday, but the expectation is that Uggla will lose his roster spot. It's possible that he'll be traded, but either way the Braves figure to DFA him first. The move is long overdue, as Uggla is barely playing anymore, going just 1-for-20 with eight strikeouts since May 23. The Braves had been holding out only because the second baseman is due roughly $19 million through the end of next season. Someone will take a shot on Uggla, but with a .175/.295/.332 batting line since the beginning of last season, it's hard to bet on him turning it around.

An MRI taken Saturday morning on the right arm of Jordan Zimmermann showed a biceps strain.

The good news is Zimmermann has no structural damage and might be able to avoid a disabled list stint (with the help of the All-Star break). The right-hander left his start Friday night against the Phillies with what was initially labeled a biceps cramp. He wraps up the first half of the season with a 3.03 ERA and 1.21 WHIP.

Drew Pomeranz (hand) allowed one run over four innings Saturday in his rehab debut at Triple-A Sacramento.

He struck out seven, walked none, and yielded just one hit -- a solo home run. The left-hander is expected to remain at Sacramento when he's deemed healthy as an emergency option for the Oakland rotation. He's been out since June 17 with a broken right hand.
Jul 12 - 11:40 PM

Andrew McCutchen homered twice to lead the Pirates past the Reds 6-5 on Saturday night.

McCutchen smacked a game-tying solo homer in the top of the ninth inning and then a go-ahead solo shot in the top of the 11th. The reigning National League MVP also doubled in the game. He's batting .325/.422/.573 with 17 homers, 61 RBI, and 15 steals this year for the Bucs.

Ryan Zimmerman hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 10th Saturday in a 5-3 win over the Phillies.

It was the only hit of the game for Zimmerman, but it was obviously a big one. He's batting .272/.342/.428 with 28 RBI in 47 games this season for the Nationals, who are tied with the Braves atop the National League East.
Jul 12 - 11:25 PM

Joe Smith tallied his 14th save of the season Saturday in the Angels' 5-2 defeat of the Rangers.

Smith struck out two of the three batters he faced in a perfect ninth inning. He's been fantastic since stepping in permanently as the Angels' closer, now boasting a 2.38 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in 41 2/3 total innings this season. The right-hander should remain a strong fantasy piece in the second half as the Angels continue to click.
Jul 12 - 10:45 PM

Rick Porcello fired seven innings of one-run ball Saturday in the Tigers' 5-1 defeat of the Royals.

It was a terrific bounceback performance from Porcello, who was shelled for seven runs on 11 hits last Sunday by the Rays. Porcello scattered six hits Saturday in Kansas City and struck out three. He'll wrap up the first half with a 12-5 record, 3.39 ERA, and 1.18 WHIP. The right-hander is tied for the American League lead in wins.
