The Phillies haven't ruled out knee surgery for Ryan Howard.

Howard was placed on the disabled list on Saturday with left knee inflammation. He will have an MRI on Sunday or Monday, after which more should be known. Phillies GM Ruben Amaro said the team will be "conservative" with their handling of their first baseman, so even if Howard avoids a knee procedure he could end up missing more than just 15 days. Surgery would almost certainly end Howard's season.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Alberto Callaspo has rejected a trade to the Dodgers.

Juan Uribe and others would have been sent to the Braves in the proposed deal. However, Callaspo has the ability to veto a trade until June 15 since he signed with the Braves as a free agent over the winter. He ultimately chose to use that right. Callaspo figures to be designated for assignment when Chris Johnson comes off the DL later this week and he'll be able to sign with any team at the major league minimum once he hits free agency.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that the potential Juan Uribe/Alberto Callaspo swap between the Dodgers and Braves has "lost traction."

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal wrote that the deal on the table had Uribe and a minor leaguer going to the Braves for Callaspo and three minor leaguers, but Bowman now hears that nothing is imminent. It's unclear why talks have hit a snag, but Callaspo has the ability to veto a trade until June 15 since he signed as a free agent over the winter.

Johnny Cueto will undergo an MRI on his elbow on Tuesday.

Cueto was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday due to a stiff pitching elbow, but his agent Bryce Dixon said the right-hander is optimistic he's only dealing with fatigue. We should have a better idea about his status soon. In the meantime, the Reds and fantasy owners will cross their fingers.

Albert Pujols hit a broken-bat RBI single to help the Angels walk off winners in the bottom of the ninth against the Padres on Monday.

Padres closer Craig Kimbrel was trying to clean up Kevin Quackenbush's mess and walked Mike Trout to load the bases with two outs to face Pujols. Pujols broke his bat, but was strong enough to drive a grounder into left field for the walk-off hit. He finished 1-for-5 on the night. The veteran first baseman is batting a mediocre .228/.280/.420 with eight home runs and 17 RBI.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez revealed after Monday's game that Alberto Callaspo was scratched because the club is in the process of trying to trade him.

There had been speculation that he could be designated for assignment, but evidently the Braves might find a taker for him. They'll surely have to eat a good portion of what remains of Callaspo's $3 million salary for this season. The veteran infielder has just three hits in his last 53 at-bats to drop his season average to .206.

Andre Ethier broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with a solo home run, helping lead the Dodgers past the Braves on Monday.

Ethier started what turned out to be an avalanche of home runs, as Alex Guerrero and Jimmy Rollins followed up with round-trippers of their own. Ethier finished 2-for-3 with a walk on the evening. He has cooled off over the last couple of weeks, but still maintains a stellar .313/.407/.548 triple-slash line with six home runs and 17 RBI.

Mariners activated OF Austin Jackson from the 15-day disabled list.

Jackson batted only .263/.333/.289 over nine rehab games for Tacoma, but he's feeling healthy and that's really all the Mariners care about. The veteran outfielder had been sidelined since early May with a sprained right ankle.
May 25 - 10:26 PM

Robinson Cano had two RBI singles in four at-bats Monday as the Mariners won against the Rays.

Cano plated the Mariners' first run in the first inning, then added insurance in the eighth. The second baseman had gone hitless in three consecutive games. He's still batting a disappointing .253/.295/.337 with one home run and 13 RBI.
May 25 - 10:02 PM

Charlie Morton, making his first start of the season, got the win after limiting the Marlins to two runs in seven innings of work on Monday.

Giancarlo Stanton was responsible for both runs, hitting an RBI single in the first inning and a solo home run in the third. Morton had his ground ball stuff working, inducing 20 of them compared to one fly ball. He scattered eight hits overall, walked none, and struck out three. Morton will look to repeat the success in a weekend start in San Diego against the Padres next.
May 25 - 9:33 PM

Drew Hutchison pitched a four-hit shutout against the White Sox in Monday's win.

It's the second shutout of Hutchison's career. All four hits were singles and the White Sox only once had a runner reach scoring position. Hutchison also issued zero walks while fanning eight. The terrific outing knocks the right-hander's ERA to 5.12 with a 1.31 WHIP and a 51/16 K/BB ratio in 58 innings. He'll look for more of the same his next time out in Minnesota against the Twins.
May 25 - 9:22 PM

Avisail Garcia is considered day-to-day after leaving Monday's game with more inflammation in his right knee.

Garcia had just returned to action on Sunday after missing two games with the ailment. He singled in his first at-bat Monday but then had to be taken out when the knee acted up on him again. It sets up as a sticky situation for fantasy owners, as Garcia's ailment doesn't appear bad enough to require a disabled list stint but he also might be in and out of the lineup.
