Alex Rodriguez (hip) finished 0-for-3 in a rehab game on Sunday with the High-A Tampa Yankees.

A-Rod is now 1-for-9 through his first four minor league rehab games, and he doesn't expect to start suddenly raking. "It’s going to get slower," the veteran third baseman said Sunday. "There’s no frustration here. Obviously, we want to get back to New York as soon as possible, but this is a process. You got to be realistic." He won't be activated until after the All-Star break.

Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com reports that the Mets have acquired Yoenis Cespedes from the Tigers.

Miguel Cabrera (calf) did some agility drills on Friday.

He's also done some hitting over the last week. Obviously running will be the biggest test for Cabrera's strained left calf and it's unclear at this point when he might be cleared for that. The Tigers think the slugger will be ready for activation from the disabled list around August 15.

Joe Panik (back) is back in the Giants' lineup Friday.

Panik missed a couple games with a stiff back. He returns to a .309/.375/.440 batting line.
Jul 31 - 3:28 PM

Hanley Ramirez (shin) is not in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Ramirez injured his shin during Thursday's game. He's considered day-to-day. Alejandro De Aza is in left field Friday.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that there's "nothing happening" on the Justin Upton trade front and "it appears he's staying put at deadline."

Things can always change, of course, but there has been surprisingly little trade rumors of late involving the outfielder. The Padres appear content to pick up a draft pick for Upton this winter rather than deal him for a trade package they deem unsatisfactory.
Jul 31 - 3:19 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rangers "appear to be planning to hold" Yovani Gallardo.

They've been telling teams all along that they'd rather keep Gallardo and make him a qualifying offer over the winter if they're unable to get a trade proposal they like. Evidently teams haven't met the asking price. The Dodgers, Cubs and Blue Jays have been linked to the right-hander.
Jul 31 - 3:06 PM

Twins acquired RHP Kevin Jepsen from the Rays for RHP Chih-Wei Hu and RHP Alexis Tapia.

Jepsen has pretty much the same ERA this year as last (2.81 vs. 2.63), but it's come with weaker peripherals. Last year for the Angels, he had a 75/23 K/BB ratio in 65 innings. This year, he has a 34/20 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings. The Twins will try him in a setup role and hope for the best, but it'd be no surprise to see him start to fade.
Jul 31 - 2:37 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mets are "making a push" for Yoenis Cespedes.

The Mets had a deal in place for Carlos Gomez and were close on Jay Bruce, only to see both potential trades fall apart. It appears they've moved their focus to Cespedes as they seek some offensive help. It's unclear at this point what the Mets would have to give up.
Jul 31 - 2:20 PM

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Cubs "would love to pull off a blockbuster" and land Tyson Ross and Craig Kimbrel from the Padres.

The Cubs, Padres and Red Sox reportedly discussed a possible three-team blockbuster deal, but Nightengale says the Cubs and Padres are dealing exclusively with each other on this one. It's unclear what would be headed to San Diego in the deal, but Chicago has numerous assets on the block like Starlin Castro and Javier Baez.
Jul 31 - 2:17 PM

MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports that the Blue Jays have acquired Ben Revere from the Phillies.

It's unclear at this point what the Blue Jays are giving up in return. Revere will take over in left field for Toronto and possibly slide into the leadoff spot. He could score a ton of runs in front of that dynamic offense.
Jul 31 - 2:06 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Twins have acquired Kevin Jepsen from the Rays.

The Twins have been seeking bullpen help and appear to have landed their man. Jepsen has had a nice year in Tampa, putting up a 2.81 ERA while striking out 34 across 41 2/3 innings. Minnesota has had trouble bridging the gap from their starters to closer Glen Perkins and Jepsen should help out in that regard.
