Carlos Gonzalez (finger) is not in the Rockies' lineup Monday.

CarGo is dealing with a sprained right middle finger, an injury he suffered on an awkward swing during Sunday's game. He's listed as day-to-day and should be back in there soon. Corey Dickerson is starting in left field Monday in CarGo's place.

Travis Shaw belted a three-run homer and reached base four times in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

Shaw's blast came off of Edwin Jackson in the fourth inning and was one of three longballs that Jackson served up on the night. The Brewers' third baseman also had a single and drew a pair of walks. Shaw has been incredible in his first season in Milwaukee, as he's on pace for 37 homers, 116 RBI, 92 runs and 11 stolen bases.

Salvador Perez (rib) said he expects to catch Wednesday against the Tigers.

Perez made an early exit from Tuesday night's victory in Detroit after experiencing tightness around his rib cage, but he should ultimately be fine. The star catcher had a similar issue earlier this year, though that was on the other side of his body.

X-rays turned up negative on Miguel Sano's left hand.

Sano got hit on that hand by a pitch on Monday night and he was a late scratch from the Twins' starting lineup on Tuesday, but this is nothing overly serious. The young slugger could be ready to play Wednesday at Dodger Stadium.
Jul 25 - 10:36 PM

Charlie Morton notched nine strikeouts across seven scoreless innings in Tuesday’s 5-0 victory over the Phillies.

The Phils managed just three base knocks off of the right-hander, and Morton walked only one batter to go along with his nine punchouts. It’s the third time this season that he’s gone seven innings and the fourth time that Morton has recorded at least nine strikeouts. Morton has pitched quite well, but his rotation spot could be vulnerable with Dallas Keuchel (neck) due back this weekend.

Ian Desmond was removed from Tuesday's game against the Cardinals after re-injuring his right calf.

It's the same calf he strained on July 2, and that ailment required a disabled list stint. Rockies manager Bud Black called Tuesday's exit "precautionary," but it's possible Desmond could be looking at another extended absence. He was 0-for-1 with a strikeout before getting replaced at first base by Mark Reynolds.

According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, the Rockies have been scouting Tigers reliever Justin Wilson.

Zach Britton of the Orioles and A.J. Ramos of the Marlins are also targets of the Rockies as they try to beef up their bullpen for the stretch run. Colorado's biggest need is relief pitching, and we might see multiple arms head that way before July 31. Wilson, a 29-year-old left-hander, owns a 2.75 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 55/16 K/BB ratio in 39 1/3 innings this season. He is under control through 2018.
Jul 25 - 8:58 PM

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Cubs "remain interested" in Tigers starter Justin Verlander.

Morosi adds, however, that Chicago has shown reluctance to pay the $60 million that Verlander is still owed on a contract that runs through 2019. The 34-year-old right-hander has posted an underwhelming 4.50 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 124 innings this season, after finishing with a 3.04 ERA last year. Detroit is going to have to eat some cash in order to find a willing trade partner before the July 31 deadline.
Jul 25 - 8:26 PM

Alex Bregman was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Phillies with discomfort in his right hamstring.

Bregman tripled and scored in the top of the third inning before getting lifted. The young third baseman entered play Tuesday with a red-hot .356/.457/.627 batting line in 70 plate appearances since July 4. He's listed as day-to-day for the time being.
Jul 25 - 8:11 PM

Brewers acquired RHP Anthony Swarzak from the White Sox for OF/3B Ryan Cordell.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports was first to report word of the swap. Swarzak arrives in Milwaukee as a reliable setup option for closer Corey Knebel, after registering a 2.23 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 52/13 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings this season on the south side of Chicago. The 31-year-old right-hander can become a free agent in November.
Jul 25 - 7:43 PM

Cardinals placed RHP Adam Wainwright on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 23, with a stiff back.

This comes out of nowhere for Wainwright, who had looked strong in his last several outings. It should be a short absence. St. Louis will announce a corresponding roster move on Wednesday. Luke Weaver may be on the way up.
Jul 25 - 7:29 PM

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Brewers and Tigers are "engaged in ongoing discussions" on a trade involving both Ian Kinsler and Justin Wilson.

ESPN's Buster Olney was first to report word of the Brewers' interest in Kinsler last week. The veteran second baseman is batting just .248/.331/.399 with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 81 games this season, but he's only owed around $4 million and the Brewers are exploring a range of options to upgrade their roster for the stretch run. Wilson, a 29-year-old left-handed reliever, owns a 2.75 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 55/16 K/BB ratio in 39 1/3 innings this season with Detroit.
