Wilson Betemit has continued to progress slowly in his recovery from right PCL surgery.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Betemit is doing baseball activities "as tolerated" at extended spring training. He remains out indefinitely and the O's surely aren't counting on a contribution from him at this point.

Avisail Garcia exited Monday's game against the Mariners with a right hamstring strain.

Garcia had to be helped off the field, and the fact that the White Sox are already calling the injury a strain isn't a good sign. He'll be re-evaluated Tuesday, but a trip to the disabled list seems likely. The outfielder had an RBI single in one of his two plate appearances before exiting.

Mark Melancon (forearm) will play catch Thursday.

It will be the first time he's done any throwing since he was diagnosed with inflammation in his flexor tendon just before Opening Day. The Giants will have no idea on a timetable for Melancon until they see how he progresses. The veteran reliever should get his closer job back eventually when he's physically ready, but when/if that happens is up in the air. Hunter Strickland has been handling the ninth inning for San Francisco with Melancon out.

Dodgers recalled RHP Walker Buehler from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Buehler will make his first major league start on Monday against the Marlins. If things go well, he could get another start on Saturday in San Francisco during a doubleheader. Buehler struggled as a reliever last September with the Dodgers, but the top prospect holds a 2.08 ERA and 16/4 K/BB ratio over 13 innings this season for Oklahoma City. He's a worthy streamer Monday.

X-rays on Byron Buxton's (migraines) left foot came back negative.

Buxton fouled a ball off the foot in his first rehab game with High-A Fort Myers on Sunday. It's keeping him out of Monday's game and could potentially push back his return to the Twins a day or two. He had been slated for activation on Wednesday. Buxton originally went on the disabled list due to migraines but he's been clear of those symptoms.

Christian Villanueva was scratched from the Padres' lineup Monday due to a sore hamstring.

Villanueva is available to pinch-hit, so it appears that the club is just being extra cautious here. Still, it's a bummer that fantasy owners will miss out on a Villanueva start at Coors Field while his bat is red-hot. Cory Spangenberg has replaced him in the lineup.
Apr 23 - 6:48 PM

The Angels expect Andrelton Simmons (forearm) back in the lineup Tuesday.

Simmons is sitting out Monday as a precaution after being hit on the right forearm by a pitch Sunday, but he will be fine. The slick-fielding shortstop is batting .295/.382/.385 with one homer and two steals in the early going this season. Zack Cozart is filling in at shortstop Monday, with Luis Valbuena playing third base.
Apr 23 - 6:27 PM

Carlos Rodon (shoulder) threw 34 pitches over three innings in an extended spring training game Monday.

Fangraphs' Eric Longenhagen was at the outing and clocked Rodon mostly at 90-92 mph with his fastball but added that he topped out at 93-95 a few times. He also added that he threw more changeups than sliders, which isn't a surprise at this stage of the rehab process. Rodon is coming back from arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder and isn't expected back until June.
Apr 23 - 5:18 PM

David Dahl is starting in right field and batting cleanup for the Rockies on Monday.

Yes, the Rockies aren't at full strength, but it's certainly notable that Dahl is in the cleanup spot in the team's first game against a righty since his promotion (he batted sixth versus a lefty Sunday). Dahl faces an uncertain future when the Rockies have everyone available, but he has an opportunity to make a good impression.
Apr 23 - 4:53 PM

Jonathan Schoop (oblique) resumed baseball activities Monday.

Schoop obviously isn't going to be activated when first eligible Tuesday as he had originally hoped, but it's obviously a good sign that he's going through drills again. He will probably need some rehab at-bats before rejoining the Orioles' lineup.
Apr 23 - 4:48 PM

Trey Mancini (knee) is hoping to return to the Orioles' lineup Tuesday.

Mancini will miss a third straight game Monday, but he went through baseball activities in pregame and is feeling much better. He suffered a bruised right knee when he slid into a side wall in the outfield while trying to make a catch on Friday. Craig Gentry is making another start in left field Monday.
Apr 23 - 4:43 PM

Twins manager Paul Molitor said Monday that Ervin Santana (finger) is "getting close" to throwing a bullpen session.

Santana began a throwing program nearly two weeks ago and is almost ready for mound work. He had a debridement procedure on his right middle finger back in early February and will need a handful of rehab starts before being activated, so his return is obviously not imminent.
