Ryan Braun is in the Brewers' starting lineup Tuesday against the Reds.

Braun was activated from the disabled list Monday, but didn't make an appearance. Sidelined with a right thumb injury, this will be his first game action in a month.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Braves are expected to lose rights to prospect Kevin Maitan as punishment for international signing violations.

It's believed that the Braves surrendered their rights to additional international signings, as well. Fines and restrictions on future spending could also be included. Official word on punishment could come down as soon as Tuesday. The 17-year-old Maitan received a $4.25 million bonus as the top prospect in the 2016 international class. He batted .241/.290/.340 with two homers and 18 RBI over 42 games in rookie ball this season, but he's still very young with a lot of room to grow.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com hears from a source that the Marlins and Giants have had "deeper discussions" on a possible Giancarlo Stanton trade.

The source believes that the Giants are the favorites to land Stanton, though the Cardinals are also in the mix. Craig Mish of SiriusXM reported Monday that there was talk of packaging Stanton with Dee Gordon for second baseman Joe Panik and prospects Tyler Beede and Chris Shaw, but it's unclear if such a proposal is seriously being entertained by Miami or how much money would be exchanged. One thing we do know is that Stanton would likely be amenable to a trade to San Francisco. He has the power in this situation due to his full no-trade clause.

MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that the Mets and Tigers have had preliminary discussions about a trade involving Ian Kinsler.

The Angels have also been connected to Kinsler, who Morosi says is "drawing trade interest from multiple clubs." The 35-year-old is set to make $11 million in 2018 in the final year of his contract after putting up a .236/.313/.412 batting line with 22 homers and 14 steals this past season in Detroit.

Phillies designated RHP Mark Appel for assignment.

Yes, the same Mark Appel who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 Draft ahead of Kris Bryant. It's just never come together in pro ball for the 26-year-old, as Appel held a 5.27 ERA and 60/53 K/BB ratio over 82 Triple-A innings in 2017. Some team will give him a shot, but he can no longer be considered a prospect.

MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that the Brewers are showing interest in Lance Lynn.

Morosi has also connected Milwaukee to Jake Arrieta and says the club is "showing interest in virtually every prominent free agent starting pitcher." They have money to spend and are looking to supplement a rotation that is expected to be without Jimmy Nelson (shoulder) for a chunk of next season. Lynn put up a 3.43 ERA this past season in his first year back from Tommy John surgery.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Blue Jays "could emerge as a dark horse candidate" for J.D. Martinez.

They are expected to let Jose Bautista walk as a free agent, which would create an opening in right field. The Blue Jays have also been connected to Jay Bruce. Martinez will certainly cost a pretty penny this winter, as his agent, Scott Boras, is reportedly seeking a seven-year, $210 million contract for his client.

Chipper Jones is among the first-time eligible players on the 2018 Hall of Fame ballot.

Jim Thome, Omar Vizquel, and Johan Santana headline the other notable first-timers. Trevor Hoffman fell five votes short of 75 percent last year and should be in prime position to make it this time. Vladimir Guerrero (who was at 71.7 percent last year) should also be in good shape. Edgar Martinez, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Mussina, and Curt Schilling are among the other notable holdovers. Voting results will be announced on January 24.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Brewers are showing interest in free agent right-hander Jake Arrieta.

Morosi notes that the Brewers are looking for top-of-the-rotation help with Jimmy Nelson (shoulder) sidelined and that the club has the payroll flexibility to make an impact move. Arrieta will be 32 years old next season, but it's not crazy to think that his agent, Scott Boras, will push for a four-year deal worth around $100 million.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Cardinals have made a formal trade offer to the Marlins for slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

The two sides have been involved in discussions for weeks now, and with an actual offer on the table it appears as though their discussions could be gaining traction. The Giants have been tabbed as the "most aggressive team" in trade talks for Stanton, so it'll be interesting to see if they come in behind and up the ante upon hearing of this. With each day, it looks increasingly likely that Stanton has played his last game in a Marlins' uniform.
Nov 19 - 5:42 PM

MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that Carlos Santana is "drawing continued interest" from the Red Sox and Phillies.

The Red Sox are an obvious match since they have an opening at either first base or designated hitter, while the fit with the Phillies is more difficult to figure out since they have Rhys Hoskins at first. Santana, who will turn 32 just after Opening Day in 2018, batted .259/.363/.455 with 23 home runs for the Indians this past season. The Mets and Mariners have also been connected to him.
Nov 19 - 3:04 PM

MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports that Tyler Chatwood "is drawing widespread interest."

One source told Morosi that it's "probable" the right-hander nets a multi-year contract this offseason. Chatwood, who turns 28 next month, holds a pedestrian 4.31 ERA in his career, but teams are intrigued by what he could do away from Coors Field. He posted a 3.49 ERA and .695 opponents' OPS away from the thin Denver air in 2017. The Orioles and Rangers are two clubs known to have interest in Chatwood, but it sounds like there are probably a bunch more that have checked in with his agent.
