Tommy Hanson (forearm) will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

It will be the first time he's thrown from a mound since being diagnosed with a right forearm strain late last month. Hanson could conceivably rejoin the Angels' rotation by the end of the month if all goes well, though the club hasn't provided a timetable for the righty.

Lance Lynn silenced the Reds on Wednesday, tossing seven shutout innings to earn his 14th win of the season.

Lynn limited the Reds to four hits and a pair of walks while striking out five. He is now one win off of the major league lead, and carries a 2.78 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and a 144/57 K/BB ratio. He'll take the mound next on Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

Scott Feldman earned his seventh win of the season, limiting the Yankees to two runs over 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday.

Feldman was excellent, holding the Yankees to only two extra-base hits over the course of the evening. Overall, he surrendered eight hits, walked two, and struck out seven. He was in line for the loss until the Astros' offense put up a four-run seventh inning. The right-hander has a 4.37 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, and a 78/42 K/BB ratio. Feldman will toe the rubber on Monday at home against the Athletics next.

Anthony Rendon pinch-hit and lifted a walk-off RBI single to left field in the ninth inning of Wednesday's win over the D'Backs.

Rendon got the night off, with Kevin Frandsen starting at third base in his place. But as the Nats squandered a 2-0 lead in the eighth, Rendon picked up his team by playing the hero. The third baseman is having a great season, slashing .278/.333/.462 with 16 home runs, 68 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.

A source tells Bruce Levine of 670 The Score that Starlin Castro could miss up to a week after the death of a relative and three of his friends in the Dominican Republic.

Castro was a late scratch from the Cubs lineup on Wednesday, and now we know why. According to Levine, the deaths came as a result of a car crash in Castro's native country. With the Cubs having little left to play for they'll certainly give Castro as much time as he needs in this tragic situation. He'll likely be placed on the bereavement list in the coming days.

Gerrit Cole got a no-decision in his first start after being activated from the disabled list, yielding two runs over seven innings as the Pirates defeated the Braves on Wednesday.

Cole had been on the shelf since July 5 with a strained right lat. He walked four batters, but was able to throw 61 of 97 pitches for strikes. He also allowed five hits while striking out six. The right-hander sports a 3.69 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and an 84/33 K/BB ratio. Cole will face the Cardinals at home on Tuesday next.

Rick Porcello was stellar on Wednesday, blanking the Rays over nine innings en route to his 14th win.

This is Porcello's third shutout of the season, the most in the American League and tying him with Henderson Alvarez for the MLB lead. The Rays couldn't get anything going against the right-hander, as Porcello yielded only three hits and no walks while striking out four. The effort lowers his ERA to 3.10 and he has a 1.12 WHIP and 100/32 K/BB ratio to go along with it. Porcello will face the Yankees at home in his next start on Tuesday.

Victor Martinez went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI double, and a grand slam in Wednesday's shutout win against the Rays.

Martinez put the Tigers on the board in the top of the first with an RBI double and later extended his club's lead to 6-0 with a seventh-inning grand slam off of Kirby Yates. The veteran now has 24 home runs on the season, one off of his career-high. He's also sitting on 79 RBI and a .325/.392/.553 slash line.

Garrett Richards suffered a left knee patellar injury in Wednesday's game.

Richards was running to cover first base in the second inning when his left knee gave out. He had to be placed on a stretcher and carted off the field. While the Angels haven't given any idea as to his timetable, the right-hander is likely done for the year.

Andrew Cashner (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list prior to Saturday's start against the Diamondbacks.

The start will be Cashner's first since June 18 as he recovers from right shoulder soreness. His final rehab start was Monday, putting him on regular rest for the start in Arizona. When he's pitched he's been very good, posting a 2.36 ERA through 12 starts before the injury.

Zack Greinke (elbow) had his scheduled start on Thursday pushed back to Saturday.

Greinke has been dealing with some elbow tenderness in recent weeks -- he underwent an MRI on the elbow two weeks ago, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has downplayed the seriousness of the ailment, and it's promising that he will at least make another start shortly after the originally scheduled one. Clayton Kershaw will move up in the rotation to start Thursday in Greinke's place.

Brandon Belt (concussion) was told following an exam in Pittsburgh that he's still at least 2-3 weeks away from being cleared for doing any physical activity.

Belt initially suffered the concussion on July 19 and returned to the disabled list earlier this month after he experienced recurring symptoms. The Giants and fantasy owners can't count on much from him the rest of the way.
