Dodgers manager Don Mattingly expects Matt Kemp (shoulder) to be activated from the disabled list on July 21, the first day he's eligible.

An MRI on Kemp's left shoulder confirmed the diagnosis of irritation in his AC joint. He's still in pain right now, but Kemp was given a platelet-rich plasma injection and Mattingly believes the outfielder will be much better with a little rest. The Dodgers will go with an outfield of Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier and Yasiel Puig until Kemp returns.

Rockies activated RHP Jason Motte from the 15-day disabled list.

Motte will finally join the Colorado bullpen on Wednesday after missing the first eight weeks of the season with a shoulder strain. He had a 3.18 ERA and five strikeouts in 5 2/3 minor league rehab innings.
May 25 - 4:00 PM

Mark Teixeira is out of the Yankees' starting lineup on Wednesday with renewed neck discomfort.

He has three homers in nine career at-bats against the Blue Jays' starter, Marco Estrada, so it's a big absence. Teixeira is considered day-to-day for now.
May 25 - 3:56 PM

Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) will play another rehab game with Double-A Trenton on Wednesday.

And then he should be activated on Thursday. A-Rod went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI in his rehab debut Tuesday at the Double-A level. He's been on the disabled list since May 4 with a hamstring strain.
May 25 - 3:54 PM

Steven Matz worked eight scoreless innings Wednesday in the Mets' 2-0 defeat of the Nationals.

Matz carved his way through the Bryce Harper-less lineup in Washington, yielding just four hits and a walk while striking out seven. He did actually face Harper in a pinch-hit situation in the bottom of the eighth and got him to ground out. Matz, 24, boasts a 7-1 record, 2.36 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 50/9 K/BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings (eight starts) this season. He'll look to stay ace-like next time out against the White Sox.
May 25 - 3:51 PM

Nick Ahmed (head) is in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Pirates.

Ahmed took a pitch off his chin on Tuesday night but came away with nothing more than some minor cuts. He is batting leadoff Wednesday versus lefty Jeff Locke.
May 25 - 3:47 PM

Troy Tulowitzki (quad) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup Wednesday against the Yankees.

Tulo made an early exit from Tuesday's game after experiencing tightness in his right quad. Ryan Goins will start at shortstop and bat eighth versus Ivan Nova. Devon Travis will make his season debut at second.
May 25 - 3:43 PM

Maikel Franco was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Tigers with an apparent foot injury.

Franco appeared to jam something while sliding into second base in the top of the seventh inning. He limped off the field. Look for an update shortly.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that Jonny Gomes has decided to retire from baseball.

Gomes left the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan on May 11 "by mutual consent" after batting just .169/.280/.246 with 22 strikeouts in 75 plate appearances. The 35-year-old outfielder finishes his playing career with 835 major league hits and 162 major league homers. He played for the Rays, Reds, Nationals, Athletics, Red Sox, Braves, and Royals during his 13-year career, earning World Series rings with Boston and Kansas City.
May 25 - 3:21 PM

Francisco Cervelli is out again Wednesday.

It's the second day off in a row for Cervelli, who's batting .193/.277/.211 in 16 games this month. He signed a three-year, $31 million contract extension with the Pirates on May 17. Chris Stewart will start at catcher and bat eighth versus the Diamondbacks.
May 25 - 3:15 PM

Travis Shaw (hand) is back in the Red Sox starting lineup Wednesday versus the Rockies.

Shaw sat out Tuesday with a minor left hand injury. It was probably just soreness. He will start at third base and bat seventh against Colorado righty Chad Bettis.
May 25 - 3:10 PM

Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder, groin) threw four scoreless innings Wednesday for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

It was the third rehab start for Ryu, who remains on track for a mid-June season debut. The left-hander struck out three, walked none, and scattered five hits over his four shutout frames. He induced a ton of groundballs, which is usually a positive sign that his stuff is working. Ryu and his 3.17 career major league ERA are worth stashing in all mixed fantasy leagues.
