Michael Morse (quad) is still not ready to begin a rehab assignment.

The Mariners had been hoping to send Morse out on a rehab assignment as soon as last weekend, but evidently his right quad isn't where it needs to be yet. Once ready, he's expected to need several rehab games, so it's looking like he won't return until late July.

David Wright won't throw for "a couple weeks" after being diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement.

Uh oh. Wright has been limited to DH duty in the early part of the Grapefruit League schedule as he makes his way back from neck surgery, but he apparently felt shoulder soreness in some of his private throwing sessions, so the Mets sent him to New York to get checked out. General manager Sandy Alderson is calling him "questionable" for Opening Day, but they clearly can't count on him avoiding further setbacks. Jose Reyes is poised to have a major role in this lineup this season.

Dee Gordon (pink eye) will make his spring debut Tuesday against the Mets.

Gordon was originally scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut on Saturday, but he was sent home due to pink eye. Fortunately, it didn't take him long to get back to normal. The 28-year-old should come at a discount in fantasy drafts this year after his disappointing 2015, but his speed remains a game-changer.

Jean Segura went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI on Monday versus the Royals.

He delivered a run-scoring double in the first inning and followed that with the two-run longball in the second frame. He was acquired by the Mariners in the Taijuan Walker trade with Arizona back in November. He had an excellent season in 2016 with a .319 batting average, 20 home runs, 102 runs scored and 33 stolen bases. He also had a big year in 2013 but his other three seasons were woeful. He has been batting second in the Mariners' order so far this spring and will be their everyday shortstop.

Twins manager Paul Molitor indicated Monday that Byron Buxton could hit his way into the leadoff spot this spring.

It came up when Molitor was asked where Joe Mauer would bat this season. "How Buxton comes along, how that’s going to affect (Brian) Dozier in some regard, there’s just a trickle-down there in where people could go," Molitor said. "I still like Joe up there somewhere, against right-handed pitching in particular." Buxton has spent nearly all of his time with the Twins at the bottom of the batting order, although he did hit leadoff in last year's season finale (he homered and doubled). The former top prospect finished with a .287/.357/.653 line and nine homers last September and certainly has breakout potential in 2017. Hitting leadoff would obviously boost his fantasy appeal, and he could wind up there eventually even if he starts the year hitting low in the order.

Josh Hamilton underwent surgery Monday to repair torn cartilage in his left knee.

That is the fourth procedure on Hamilton's left knee over the last 15 months. He will go through six weeks of rest and rehab before he can resume running. The veteran slugger shouldn't be counted on for much in 2017, and it's very possible that his days as a major leaguer are over. Hamilton signed a minor league contract with Texas in mid-January. He turns 36 years old in May.

Tim Tebow hit nine home runs over a span of four batting practice rounds Monday during his first workout at Mets camp.

They were all to either left field or right-center, per Mark Saxon of ESPN.com. It was an impressive power show from Tebow -- who reworked his swing over the winter between college football broadcasting duties -- but it's still difficult to see this baseball experiment progressing beyond Low-A ball. Tebow, 29, batted .194/.296/.242 with 20 strikeouts over 62 at-bats in the 2016 Arizona Fall League.

Giants GM Bobby Evans said Monday that he expects Johnny Cueto to arrive in camp later this week.

Evans told reporters that Cueto has nearly settled the visa/passport issues that will allow his ill father to travel with him from the Dominican Republic to where the Giants train in Arizona. It's not clear whether Cueto is still going to pitch for Team Dominica in the first round of the World Baseball Classic. We'd probably bet against it at this point.

Collin McHugh said he's going through a "general dead arm" phase.

McHugh has not yet faced live hitters, but he told reporters Monday that he's confident he'll be ready for the beginning of the 2017 regular season. It's something to watch. McHugh, 29, struggled to a 4.34 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 33 starts last year with Houston.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Adrian Gonzalez (elbow) could resume swinging off a tee in the next few days.

Gonzalez showed up to Dodgers camp with a case of tennis elbow and has been easing into baseball activities. He said last week that he is already pain-free, but the veteran first baseman might not appear in a Cactus League game before he has to report to duty for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic.

Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins reiterated Monday that Josh Donaldson (calf) is expected to be ready for Opening Day.

Donaldson strained his right calf during the Blue Jays' first team workout of the spring, but he's been taking swings in the cage for the last few days and is apparently close to resuming full baseball activities. "We anticipate no problems at all in his recovery," Atkins told reporters Monday morning in Dunedin, Florida.

Adrian Beltre (calf) said Monday that he is unsure about his status for the World Baseball Classic.

Beltre suffered a Grade 1 strain of his left calf shortly after arriving at Rangers camp and he still hasn't tried to run at full speed. The Dominican third baseman will have to make a decision about the first round of the WBC by Thursday. Texas' medical staff would probably prefer he remain in Arizona all spring.
