Steve Delabar came on to record the final out in the Blue Jays' 5-4 win over the Indians on Wednesday.

Closer Casey Janssen struggled to lock it down, allowing two runs and putting the winning run on base before Delabar was called on to stop the bleeding. It was Delabar's first career save, good timing for the reliever as he contends for the final spot on the American League's All-Star roster. He now owns a 1.74 ERA this year.

Ernesto Frieri blew his second save of the season, allowing four runs in the bottom of the ninth as the Nationals walked off 5-4 winners over the Angels.

Frieri, who saved 37 games for the Angels last season, has not been able to get the job done in the early going. Against the Nationals, he allowed a home run to Jose Lobaton to lead off the ninth, then got a strike out. From there, he allowed a single, a walk, a two-run double, and a walk-off RBI single to Adam LaRoche. On the season, Frieri has struck out 12 in 9 1/3 innings, but has also allowed five home runs. One has to wonder if he may be running out of time to right the ship.

Mariners optioned INF Nick Franklin to Triple-A Tacoma.

Franklin's stay in Seattle lasted only a week, as he's headed to Las Vegas to meet the Triple-A team on their road trip. In his stay, Franklin was just 2-for-13 with a triple. The move is a little surprising, as the team's starting shortstop, Brad Miller, hasn't been playing terribly well of late either. No corresponding move was announced.

Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a timely grand slam as the White Sox defeated the Tigers 6-4 on Wednesday.

Semien's seventh-inning grand slam put the White Sox ahead 6-4, a lead they would hold on to for the final three innings. Semien hasn't been very reliable with the bat, but is on a four-game hitting streak with as many extra-base hits in that span. He'll have to keep it going in order to maintain playing time once Gordon Beckham is activated.

Michael Pineda was ejected in the second inning of Wednesday's game at Fenway Park for having a foreign substance on his neck.

Two starts ago -- against the same Red Sox club -- Pineda made news for what appeared to be a foreign substance on his hand. When questioned about the substance after that start, Pineda called it "dirt." Fool me once, shame one you, but Red Sox manager John Farrell wasn't going to be fooled again. Pineda could be in for a 10-game suspension as a result of the ejection.

Hector Sanchez hit a grand slam in the 11th inning -- his second home run of the game -- and the Giants outlasted the Rockies for a 12-10 win on Wednesday.

The teams combined for 22 runs and 29 hits, with Sanchez accounting for four of those runs on one swing. Getting the start for Buster Posey behind the plate, Sanchez also added a solo homer in the eighth inning. They were his first two home runs of the year, and his five RBI more than doubled his total heading into the game.

Clayton Kershaw (back) will make his first rehab start Friday at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga.

The left-hander will require more than one rehab start before returning, but Friday's start is a big step in that direction. He'll throw 50-55 pitches in the start as he builds up stamina. Assuming the starts go well, Kershaw should be back with the Dodgers by mid-May as anticipated.
Apr 23 - 7:15 PM

Kyle Seager slugged a walkoff three-run homer Wednesday in the Mariners' 5-3 win over the Astros.

Seager also hit a two-run shot in the seventh inning, finishing the afternoon with five total RBI. The talented third baseman got off to a slow start this season but is capable of turning things around in a hurry. He finished 22 home runs and 69 RBI in 2013.
Apr 23 - 6:49 PM

Martin Perez threw his second straight complete game shutout on Wednesday, limiting the A's to three hits in the Rangers' 3-0 victory.

It was actually Perez' third straight start in which he's gone at least eight shutout innings. On Wednesday, Perez had the sinker working, inducing 17 groundouts while striking out just three. He now owns a 4-0 record, 1.42 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through 38 innings of work this season. He'll look to keep his scoreless streak going against this same Athletics club Tuesday.
Apr 23 - 6:46 PM

Adam Wainwright (knee) completed a normal workout without issue on Wednesday.

Wainwright hyperextended his right knee during the seventh inning of Tuesday's game, leaving after 79 pitches. He said after the game that he expects to make his next start, and he reiterated that again Wednesday. Whether he does is ultimately up to manager Mike Matheny and the Cardinals training staff, but he appears to have avoided anything serious, at the very least.
Apr 23 - 6:30 PM

Justin Ruggiano will have X-rays done on his injured left hamstring.

Ruggiano left Wednesday's game after making a sliding attempt on a fly ball in the ninth inning. He had to be helped off the field, an indication that the injury could be serious. At this point, a trip to the disabled list seems likely.
Apr 23 - 6:07 PM

Mark Trumbo has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left foot.

It was originally called "soreness," but an MRI taken Wednesday revealed a broken bone. Trumbo is headed back to Arizona for further examination. The 28-year-old slugger could be looking at an extended absence.
