Padres signed LHP Jason Lane to a minor league contract.

Lane, 36, transitioned from an outfielder to a reliever last season and has been assigned to Triple-A Tucson. He hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2007 and will serve as organizational depth.

Jonathan Villar is batting seventh for the Brewers on Sunday.

Villar made a start in the No. 3 spot a little over a week ago, but that was the only other time he's hit anywhere other than leadoff. The 26-year-old is currently in a 6-for-36 slide at the dish that has his season line down to .213/.285/.330. Villar has been woeful against lefties this season (.514 OPS) and the Brewers are facing southpaw Patrick Corbin, so it's possible Villar will be back in the leadoff spot Monday when they go up against righty Robert Gsellman. Keon Broxton is batting leadoff Sunday. This is obviously a situation to keep an eye on, as it could have a big fantasy impact on both players.
May 28 - 12:49 PM

Cardinals placed 2B Kolten Wong on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 27, with a left elbow strain.

Wong first injured his elbow a week ago and it apparently just hasn't healed as hoped. He'll undergo an MRI on Monday in St. Louis to determine the severity of the injury. Greg Garcia and Jhonny Peralta will get more playing time with Wong out, and call-up Paul DeJong is also an option.
May 28 - 12:13 PM

Daniel Murphy (illness) remained out of the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Murphy hasn't played since Thursday due to a stomach bug. He'll be back in there soon. Wilmer Difo is handling second base again.
May 28 - 12:09 PM

Bryce Harper is not in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Jayson Werth and Matt Wieters are also getting breathers, and Daniel Murphy (illness) remains out, as well. The Nats have Brian Goodwin in right field, Adam Lind in left, Jose Lobaton at catcher and Wilmer Difo at second base.
May 28 - 12:06 PM

Adam Jones (ankle, hip) remained out of the Orioles' lineup Sunday.

Jones is a little banged up and is getting a second straight day of rest. He's expected to be back in there Monday when the O's return home. Joey Rickard is getting another start in center field.
May 28 - 11:58 AM

Kendall Graveman (shoulder) will be placed on the disabled list prior to Monday's game in Cleveland.

It's been the assumption since he was scratched from Friday's start with more shoulder soreness. Graveman was on the DL last month with shoulder issues, as well, and his stay figures to be longer this time around. Daniel Mengden will replace him in the A's rotation.
May 28 - 11:50 AM

Francisco Lindor is not in the Indians' lineup Sunday.

It's a rare day off for the star shortstop. Erik Gonzalez is filling in.
May 28 - 11:45 AM

Miguel Sano is absent from the Twins' lineup again Sunday.

Manager Paul Molitor is giving the slumping Sano a second straight day off in hopes that it will "take mental stress off him for a couple of days." Eduardo Escobar is again at third base.
May 28 - 11:44 AM

Paul Goldschmidt is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.

It looks to be a rare day off for the slugger. Yasmany Tomas is also sitting out, as the D'Backs have Daniel Descalso at first base and Chris Herrmann in left field.
May 28 - 11:42 AM

Indians manager Terry Francona said Sunday that Danny Salazar will available out of the bullpen as soon as Wednesday or Thursday.

The skipper left open the possibility that Salazar could get a start at some point during the team's road trip that begins on Friday, but the talented-but-frustrating righty is headed for relief duty for now. That means Mike Clevinger and Josh Tomlin will keep their rotation spots with Corey Kluber (back) returning this week. Salazar ranks fourth in baseball with a 30.9 percent strikeout percentage, but he's also fourth in walk percentage at 11.9 percent. Additionally, he's served up 11 home runs and his 5.50 ERA ranks 83rd out of 93 qualifiers.
May 28 - 11:29 AM

Yonder Alonso (wrist) is back in the Athletics' lineup Sunday.

It's his first start since he took a pitch off his right wrist Tuesday. Alonso is at first base and batting fifth against Michael Pineda and the Yankees.
