Carlos Quentin is not in the Padres' lineup Tuesday due to a sore right wrist.

It's not viewed as a serious ailment, so Quentin can safely be considered day-to-day. Mark Kotsay is handling left field in his place Tuesday.

Brewers optioned OF Keon Broxton to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Broxton possesses a dazzling blend of power and speed, and has clubbed 14 home runs and swiped 17 bases this season, but he also owns a 124/27 K/BB ratio in 326 plate appearances and is mired in a 3-for-50 slump. The Brewers hope to get him back on track again before bringing him back for a potential pennant race.

Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Brewers have expressed interest in acquiring Ian Kinsler from the Tigers.

The Brewers are in free fall mode and have seen their lead in the National League Central evaporate since the All-Star break, so they're exploring all options. He's only on the books for this season, plus a very affordable $10 million club option for 2018, so he's a guy who could make a lot of sense to teams looking for an upgrade at second base.

Diamondbacks recalled LHP Anthony Banda from Triple-A Reno.

The 23-year-old southpaw will make his big league debut on Saturday against the Nationals. While he's talented, he owns a troublesome 5.08 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 93/43 K/BB ratio across 101 innings at Triple-A Reno. He should be avoided for his debut against a hard-hitting Nationals' squad.

Yoan Moncada drove in four runs in Friday’s extra-inning loss to the Royals.

Get excited, White Sox fans and fantasy owners. Called up after this week’s Todd Frazier trade, Moncada plated a run with a ground out in the second inning before collecting his first hit with Chicago on a bases-clearing triple in the third. Talk about easy speed. Moncada’s penchant for the strikeout will likely cut into his batting average upside in the short-term, but he’s capable of producing across the board in fantasy leagues.

Josh Bell went 4-for-6 with four RBI and a run scored Friday versus the Rockies.

It was the first four-hit game of his career. Bell had a single, a double, and a triple, so only a home run was missing from a possible cycle. The 24-year-old doesn’t stand out on the surface with his .248 batting average, but he has 17 homers and a respectable .807 OPS through 96 games.
Jul 22 - 12:45 AM

Victor Martinez blasted a pair of home runs and plated three on Friday, powering the Tigers to a 6-3 victory over the Twins.

Martinez got the Tigers on the board with a mammoth solo shot off of Ervin Santana in the first inning, then increased that lead to 4-0 by victimizing Santana for a two-run shot in the fourth. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Since returning from the disabled list, Martinez is hitting .275 (19-for-69) with three homers and 12 RBI in 18 games.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Dodgers and Cubs were among the teams scouting Yu Darvish's start against the Rays on Friday.

They had to come away impressed with what they saw after Darvish whiffed 12 over eight innings of three-run baseball. He's one of the top arms rumored to be available prior to the trade deadline, so expect the action surrounding him to heat up in the coming days.

Michael Conforto clubbed two homers and knocked in four runs in Friday’s 7-5 victory over the Athletics.

Conforto launched a two-run homer in the third inning before connecting for another two-run blast in the seventh. It was his third career regular season multi-homer game. All of them have come this season. He also had a multi-homer game in the 2015 World Series. The All-Star outfielder is locked in at the plate once again, batting .289/.406/.570 with 18 homers and 50 RBI through 78 games.

Edwin Encarnacion went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI on Friday, leading the Indians to a 13-3 rout over the Blue Jays.

Encarnacion was responsible for the bulk of the damage against his former club. He got the Indians on the board with a solo shot off of Marco Estrada in the second inning then added on a two-run double in the fifth to give them a 5-3 lead. He also added an RBI single during the eight-run seventh inning. With the three-hit attack, Encarnacion is hitting .261/.372/.485 with 20 homers and 54 RBI in his first season with the Tribe.
Jul 21 - 11:03 PM

Yu Darvish struck out 12 batters while allowing three runs over eight innings in a no-decision against the Rays on Friday.

Darvish gave up five hits on the night, three of which were solo homers. Shin-Soo Choo took him off the hook for the loss with a game-tying homer in the ninth inning, but he remains winless dating back to June 12. This was Darvish’s 32nd career double-digit strikeout game, good enough for second in team history. Nolan Ryan ranks first with 34 of them. With Darvish’s name circulating in trade rumors, he might not get many more chances to climb that list.
Jul 21 - 11:03 PM

Aaron Nola held the Brewers to just one run over eight innings as part of a 6-1 victory on Friday.

Nola gave up a solo homer to Brett Phillips in the second inning, but otherwise he held the Brewers off the board. He tied a career-high with nine strikeouts and walked a pair in the victory. Nola now owns a 1.70 ERA over his last six starts, once again showing that he’s capable of being a frontline starter when healthy.
