Orioles transferred OF Nolan Reimold from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

It's a procedural move in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Francisco Rodriguez. Reimold is out for the season after undergoing surgery Tuesday to fuse two vertebrae in his cervical spine.

Eric Hosmer had a big night in a win against the Indians on Monday, finishing 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.

Hosmer put the Royals on the board with three-run home run off of Cody Anderson in the first inning. He added an RBI single in the fifth. The first baseman appears to be back in the swing of things after a summer swoon, as he's resuscitated his batting line back up to .308/.368/.467 with 10 home runs and 53 RBI.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Tyson Ross has been the "focus" of the Cubs' trade talks with the Padres.

The Padres appear willing to trade anyone from their rotation, but Ross would probably be the least likely to be dealt since he's under team control through 2017. The Cubs have also expressed interest in Ian Kennedy and there's been some speculation that they could consider James Shields.

Ryan Braun was a late scratch from Monday's game with lower back tightness.

He should be considered day-to-day. Gerardo Parra moved over to right field in Braun's spot, with Khris Davis entering the lineup in left field.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Monday that Kyle Schwarber could start seeing more playing time in left field.

He played one inning in left field on Sunday and has been working on outfield drills on days he's not starting at catcher. The outfield isn't totally foreign to Schwarber, as he played left field 36 times in the minors last season. "You saw him play one minute of outfield [Sunday]," Maddon said. "You might see him out there more often as we move along." Schwarber has only been starting three out of every five games at catcher, sitting out on days when Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta pitch. Fantasy owners would obviously love to see his bat in the lineup more often.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Astros "remain in the thick" of the bidding for Cole Hamels and are "making a big push" for the left-hander.

The Astros acquired Scott Kazmir last week but apparently aren't done in their search for frontline pitching. Houston is on Hamels' no-trade list and it's been reported previously that he might not be willing to waive it in order to go to the Astros. The Rangers are viewed by most as the favorites at the moment to land Hamels.

Adam Lind (back) said Monday that he's feeling better and expects to return to the lineup Tuesday.

Lind is missing a second straight start because of a tight lower back. He thinks he could be available to pinch-hit, though, and is aiming to return to action Tuesday. Lind is a good bet to be traded this week, with the Cardinals being one club that's in on him.

Newsday's Marc Carig was told by a Mets source that Jeurys Familia will remain the team's closer following the acquisition of Tyler Clippard.

Familia has blown both of his save chances since the All-Star break, but he's been fantastic for pretty much the entire season and deserves to keep his job. Clippard will be used in the eighth inning but does offer some protection for the ninth should Familia stumble some more.
Jul 27 - 7:25 PM

Giants activated OF Nori Aoki from the 15-day disabled list.

Aoki missed over a month of action with a small fracture in his right fibula. He's in left field and hitting eighth on Monday, as the Giants are keeping Angel Pagan in the leadoff spot.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Padres have discussed Starlin Castro with the Cubs.

Morosi adds that the Cubs have inquired on the Padres' starters and he opines that a Castro-for-James Shields swap might make some sense. Castro has been a colossal disappointment with the Cubs this season, hitting just .233/.268/.302 with five homers. He's under contract through 2019 and the Cubs would probably love to use him as a trade chip this week to get pitching help.
Jul 27 - 6:33 PM

Mets acquired RHP Tyler Clippard and cash considerations from the Athletics in exchange for RHP Casey Meisner.

Clippard has had control issues this season with 21 walks over 38 2/3 innings. He's also struck out 38, though, while posting a 2.79 ERA. It's unclear at this point what role he'll serve in, but he'll most likely help set up for Jeurys Familia. Clippard will be a free agent after the season. Edward Mujica is likely the favorite for saves with the A's now.
Jul 27 - 6:15 PM

Angels acquired OF Shane Victorino and cash considerations from the Red Sox in exchange for INF Josh Rutledge.

The Red Sox are sending $3.8 million to the Angels, so the Halos will be responsible for just $1.1 million of Victorino's salary. The veteran outfielder has been limited to just 33 games this season due to injury and that's after injuries held him to 30 games in 2014. Victorino is also hitting only .245/.324/.298 in 2015 and is really only a fourth outfielder at this point, but he should play plenty in left field given how bad the Halos have been at the position.
