CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Reds have inquired about Giants' outfielder Hunter Pence.

The Reds are in the market for a righty bat, so Pence would be a nice upgrade. However, Heyman hears that there isn't a match thus far. The Giants would likely make Pence a qualifying offer if they keep him around until he reaches free agency this fall, so it would take a substantial offer to let him go.

Jacoby Ellsbury returned to the Yankees' lineup Tuesday.

Ellsbury missed the last two starts with a left ankle injury, though he did have a pinch-hit double Sunday. The outfielder got three days of rest with Monday's off day and is now ready to roll. He enters play Tuesday with a .288/.348/.435 batting line, 14 homers and 37 steals.
Sep 2 - 8:12 PM

Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) will throw a bullpen session later this week.

Tanaka was cleared for mound work again after a flat-ground throwing session on Tuesday went well. He was shut down a bit due to arm fatigue, but it appears it was just a minor bump in the road. "Every manual test that they did came out really well," Yankees manager Girardi said. "They just said he had some arm fatigue. He's scheduled to throw a bullpen [session] sometime this week and hopefully he's ready to do it." Tanaka still isn't a great bet to make it back this season.
Sep 2 - 8:09 PM

The Athletics are hoping that Coco Crisp (neck) will be ready to return to the lineup by this weekend.

Crisp received more injections for his ailing neck Tuesday. The outfielder figures to be a day-to-day proposition for the rest of the season, so fantasy owners can't count on a whole lot. Those in weekly leagues might want to just cut bait if you're in a roster bind.
Sep 2 - 6:59 PM

Michael Morse will miss the rest of the Giants' road trip after being diagnosed with a strained left oblique.

It was originally reported that Morse tweaked his hip during batting practice Monday, but apparently it's his oblique that's the issue. It's possible he could be ready to play when the Giants begin a homestand in a week. Gregor Blanco is getting another start in left field Tuesday.
Sep 2 - 6:54 PM

Carlos Gomez (wrist) will be shut down for a week from baseball activities.

An earlier report stated that Gomez could miss a week of action, but he won't even be doing anything at all baseball-wise for a week. That means he likely won't be back in the lineup for at least two weeks. It's obviously a huge blow to the fading Brewers as they compete for the NL Central crown.
Sep 2 - 6:25 PM

Adam LaRoche (back) is out of the Nationals' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Dodgers.

LaRoche was likely to sit anyway against Dodgers ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw, but he aggravated a lingering back injury on Monday and could miss much of this week.
Sep 2 - 5:51 PM

Diamondbacks activated OF A.J. Pollock from the 15-day disabled list.

Pollock missed three whole months with a fractured right hand. He has always been a highly-productive player when healthy and should carry sneaky fantasy value down the stretch this season. The 26-year-old outfielder boasts 16 home runs, 21 stolen bases, and 100 runs scored in 220 career games at the major league level. Arizona also activated shortstop Chris Owings (shoulder) from the disabled list on Tuesday.
Sep 2 - 5:46 PM

Michael Wacha (shoulder) will return to the Cardinals' starting rotation Thursday versus the Brewers.

Wacha threw only 34 pitches in his rehab debut on Sunday at Double-A Springfield, so he'll have to be piggybacked in his return to the Cardinals on Thursday in Milwaukee. The 23-year-old right-hander has been on the shelf since late June because of a stress reaction in his shoulder. He owns a fantastic 2.79 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 148/45 K/BB ratio in 155 career major league innings and should provide the Cards with a huge boost for the stretch run.
Sep 2 - 5:20 PM

Desmond Jennings (knee) remains sidelined on Tuesday.

Jennings has been out since last Friday because of soreness in his left knee. An MRI was taken over the weekend and showed no structural damage, but the outfielder told reporters Tuesday that he hasn't felt much improvement. It's not clear when he might return.
Sep 2 - 5:14 PM

Kolten Wong (neck) is not in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Pirates.

Wong banged his head on the ground Sunday while trying to make a diving catch. A concussion has been ruled out, but his neck is sore and he's still considered day-to-day despite slugging a game-tying two-run homer in the Cardinals' defeat of the Pirates on Labor Day.
Sep 2 - 4:58 PM

An MRI taken Tuesday on Anthony Rizzo's lower back revealed a muscle strain.

Cubs manager Rick Renteria acknowledged to reporters Tuesday that Rizzo would be placed on the 15-day disabled list if rosters hadn't expanded, so it's going to be a while before the first baseman returns to the lineup. He has been sidelined since August 26.
