Alex Rodriguez's lawyer, David Cornwell, said on ESPN on Monday that they are prepping to appeal a suspension from MLB.

The New York Daily News is reporting that MLB hoped to know by Monday whether A-Rod would accept a deal -- specifically a suspension that covers the remainder of 2013 and all of 2014 -- or potentially face a lifetime ban. It appears that Rodriguez is willing to fight whatever penalty will be handed down. "My expectation is that we'll be working toward an appeal," said Corwell. MLB is reportedly expected to announce all Biogenesis-related suspensions this week.

Nomar Mazara is not in the Rangers' lineup Wednesday against the Twins.

Mazara has seen his average fall from .352 to .247 during a recent 2-for-31 dry spell. Shin-Soo Choo will handle right field and bat eighth against Twins lefty Hector Santiago on Wednesday. Mazara started the first 21 games of the season, so he was probably due for a night off anyway.

Jose Abreu has been diagnosed with a mild right hip flexor strain.

Abreu took an awkward spill while trying to field a groundball in Wednesday afternoon's game against the Royals. A hip flexor strain is something that could send the first baseman to the 10-day disabled list, though the White Sox are calling him day-to-day for now. Todd Frazier moved from third base to first base on Wednesday with Tyler Saladino taking over at the hot corner.
Apr 26 - 3:49 PM

George Springer (hamstring) is out again Wednesday versus the Indians.

Springer subbed into Tuesday night's game after Teoscar Hernandez suffered a major knee injury, but the Astros don't want to push it with his tight left hamstring. Josh Reddick is in center field and batting leadoff on Wednesday.
Apr 26 - 3:28 PM

Jose Altuve (head) is out of the Astros' starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Altuve took a blow to the head Tuesday when he collided with teammate Teoscar Hernandez in shallow right field, but the star second baseman was quickly cleared of a concussion. He'll take a day of rest anyway Wednesday versus the Indians, with Marwin Gonzalez covering second base.
Apr 26 - 3:26 PM

Kyle Seager (hip) remains out of the Mariners' starting lineup on Wednesday.

Seager told reporters Tuesday that his hip feels fine and he tried to talk his way into the starting lineup Wednesday night, but manager Scott Servais will play it safe with his star third baseman. Taylor Motter is at the hot corner and batting fifth Wednesday versus the Tigers.
Apr 26 - 3:24 PM

Mariners placed RHP Felix Hernandez on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

Hernandez experienced fatigue in his right shoulder Tuesday during a rough two-inning outing against the Tigers. He's flown back to Seattle for an MRI, and the results of that exam should tell us more about his recovery timetable. The veteran right-hander holds a 4.73 ERA and 1.58 WHIP through 26 2/3 innings (five starts) this season.
Apr 26 - 3:10 PM

Mariners placed OF Mitch Haniger on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique strain.

Haniger had been bothered by oblique discomfort for a couple of days and the issue worsened Tuesday on his third-inning single. Oblique strains usually cost players 3-4 weeks, and sometimes up to two months. It's an awful blow for the Mariners, as Haniger was batting .338/.442/.600 with four home runs, 16 RBI, two stolen bases, and 20 runs scored through 21 games as the club's No. 2 hitter. Danny Valencia figures to see more time in the outfield going forward.
Apr 26 - 3:08 PM

Dustin Pedroia (knee, ankle) remains out of the Red Sox starting lineup on Wednesday.

Pedroia hasn't played since injuring his knee and ankle last Friday on a hard slide by Manny Machado. The rainy forecast at Fenway Park played a role in his continued absence Wednesday, though the veteran second baseman also still has some lingering soreness.
Apr 26 - 2:42 PM

David Freese (hamstring) remains out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Freese is day-to-day with right hamstring soreness. Josh Harrison will start at third base and bat leadoff Wednesday versus Cubs left-hander Jon Lester. Phil Gosselin is at second base and batting eighth.
Apr 26 - 2:12 PM

Wednesday night's game between the Blue Jays and Cardinals has been postponed due to rain.

The forecast calls for continuous rain throughout the day and night in St. Louis, so this one gets an early bang. Carlos Martinez was set to face off against Mat Latos with a 7:15 p.m. CT start time. The game will be made up with a split doubleheader (12:45 p.m. CT and 6:15 p.m. CT) on Thursday at Busch Stadium.
Apr 26 - 12:54 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal confirms that the Pirates are promoting minor league infielder Gift Ngoepe.

He'll be the first-ever African-born player to reach the major league level. Ngoepe, 27, was batting just .241/.308/.379 through 66 plate appearances this season with Triple-A Indianapolis, but the Bucs are desperate for infield depth with David Freese nursing a sore hamstring. Ngoepe probably won't be up for long and is not fantasy-relevant.
