Bryce Harper was diagnosed with a hip spasm.

That's what drove him from Wednesday's game against the Tigers in the eighth inning. Harper told reporters that it's not a major concern. He should start Friday.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Giants are looking at Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra and Braves outfielder Cameron Maybin as possible trade targets.

Parra is currently playing for one of the worst teams in baseball and is a logical trade candidate. He's been on fire of late, too, raising his season slash line to .308/.345/.477 thanks to a bevy of multi-hit games to start July. He's also swatted seven home runs and driven in 25. Olney notes that Giant outfielders--combined--have hit just 12 homers on the season.
Jul 6 - 12:56 PM

ESPN's Buster Olney wrote that some other teams perceive that the Braves may be willing to trade Cameron Maybin as a sell-high move before the trade deadline.

It should be noted here that Olney does not attach any specific team names, but it would make sense that the Braves would at least be open to discussing Maybin, who is posting one of the best overall seasons of his career (.294/.363.416, seven homers, 39 RBI, 15 steals). The team currently sits at 40-42.

Jordan Zimmermann pitched brilliantly in Sunday's victory over the Giants, allowing just one run on three hits over seven strong innings.

The right-hander racked up eight strikeouts on the evening while issuing just one walk. The only blemish on his night came on a solo home run by Brandon Crawford in the fourth inning. The 29-year-old is enjoying another terrific season, compiling a 3.04 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 77/20 K/BB ratio over 106 2/3 innings. He'll look to wrap up the first half on a high note when he squares off against the Orioles in Baltimore on Saturday.
Jul 5 - 11:17 PM

Albert Pujols blasted his 25th home run of the season on Sunday as the Angels routed the Rangers 12-6 in Arlington.

Pujols finished the night 2-for-5. He had an RBI single as part of a three-run uprising in the first inning, then tagged Colby Lewis for a solo shot in the fourth to put the Halos up 8-1. He's having a terrific first half, slashing .265/.337/.557 with 25 bombs and 53 RBI.
Jul 5 - 10:20 PM

Bryce Harper was the leading vote getter in the entire National League for the All-Star game, garnering 13,864,950 ballots.

It will be the third time in his first four years in the big leagues that he has made the National League squad. He'll be joined by Paul Goldschmidt, Dee Gordon, Todd Frazier, Jhonny Peralta, Buster Posey, Giancarlo Stanton and Matt Holliday in the starting lineup for the senior circuit. Stanton is on the disabled list and will not be able to appear in the game, and Holliday's status is up in the air.
Jul 5 - 8:20 PM

While it wasn't the complete sweep that Royals fans had pushed so hard for, four Royals were voted in as starters for the American League squad in the 2015 All-Star game.

Alcides Escobar and Salvador Perez were each the leading vote getters at their respective positions, while Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon finished second and third respectively in the outfield. They'll join Miguel Cabrera, Jose Altuve, Josh Donaldson, Nelson Cruz and Mike Trout as the fan's picks to start the mid-summer classic, though Cabrera is on the disabled list and will not be able to play in the game.
Jul 5 - 8:16 PM

Wilmer Flores posted his third straight game with three-plus hits in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Dodgers, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI.

The way he's going, Flores is probably dreading the All-Star Break. He hit an RBI single in the first inning against Mets starter Mike Bolsinger, then followed it up with a run-scoring infield single in the fourth and an RBI double in the eighth. Flores is 11 for his last 16 and has recorded three or more hits in each of his last three games. Overall, he's hitting .258/.289/.412 with 10 homers, 38 RBI and 31 runs scored.
Jul 5 - 7:28 PM

Steven Matz pitched brilliantly in his second career start, hurling six innings of shutout ball while striking out eight in an 8-0 win over the Dodgers.

In addition to the eight strikeouts, Matz walked two and allowed just two hits over his six innings of work. Over his first two major league starts (covering 13 2/3 innings), he's allowed just seven hits and two runs and has posted a 14/5 K/BB ratio. If you're looking for a wider scale on which to judge him, he posted a 2.19 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 94/31 K/BB ratio over 90 1/3 innings for Triple-A Las Vegas prior to earning the promotion at the end of June. If he's still available on the waiver wire, he should be given strong consideration as a pick-up. He'll take on the Diamondbacks in a home start next Sunday afternoon.
Jul 5 - 7:15 PM

Adrian Gonzalez was removed from Sunday's contest against the Mets after being hit by a pitch on his hand.

Gonzalez remained in the game until his next at-bat, where Alex Guerrero pinch-hit for him. He's likely headed for precautionary X-rays to rule out any structural damage and the Dodgers should have an update on his status shortly.
Jul 5 - 5:31 PM

Marlins optioned OF Marcell Ozuna to Triple-A New Orleans.

It's a very curious move for the Marlins, who are struggling as a team on offense, to demote their starting center fielder to Triple-A. While he has struggled of late, the 24-year-old is still hitting a respectable .249/.301/.337 on the season with four homers and 26 RBI in 79 games.
Jul 5 - 5:22 PM

Kyle Hendricks was on his game in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Marlins, tossing 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball.

Hendricks and Marlins starter Mat Latos were locked into an old school pitcher's duel, with both pitchers lasting through seven innings. It was Hendricks who persevered for the victory, improving to 4-4 on the year. He'll carry a 3.82 ERA and 1.15 WHIP into his next start, a home showdown with the rival White Sox.
