Marcus Semien has officially been promoted from Double-A Birmingham to Triple-A Charlotte.

The White Sox don't have much highly-thought-of young talent, but the early returns on Semien have been promising. The 22-year-old shortstop hit .290/.420/.483 with 15 homers, 49 RBI and 20 steals in 105 games with Birmingham. He could reach the majors in 2014.

X-rays turned up negative on Hyun-Jin Ryu's left forearm.

Ryu was removed from his start Saturday night against the Giants after getting struck by a Joe Panik comebacker in the top of the third inning. He only suffered a contusion, but that contusion could keep him from making another start before the end of the regular season.

Rio Ruiz homered and scored two runs as the Braves came back to best the Phillies 4-2 on Saturday.

Ruiz did well to wait on a Kevin Siegrist breaking ball in the sixth inning, staying back and yanking it over the right field wall for his fourth homer of the season. It's been a steep learning curve for the 23-year-old at the major league level this year, as Ruiz is batting .206/.281/.328 through 131 at-bats with the Braves this year. As with many of his Braves teammates, Ruiz's best years are still ahead of him.

Jake Odorizzi allowed just one unearned run over six innings Saturday in the Rays' 9-6 victory over the Orioles.

That one unearned run came in the bottom of the first inning, after a throwing error by Rays first baseman Lucas Duda. Odorizzi was terrific, yielding just three total hits while striking out nine of the 23 batters he faced. He's in a nice groove entering the final week of the 2017 regular season.

Hyun-Jin Ryu was removed in the third inning of his start Saturday against the Giants after getting struck on the left arm by a Joe Panik line drive.

The comebacker was clocked at 93.9 mph off Panik's bat. Look for a status update within the next hour or so. Ross Stripling took over on the mound for the Dodgers with one out in the top of the third.

Carlos Santana is getting X-rays on his left shoulder.

The shoulder got bent back awkwardly on a play at first base in the bottom of the fifth inning. He remained in the game, but there is obviously at least a little concern. "We won't play him Sunday, but he's going to get an X-ray that's precautionary," Indians manager Terry Francona told the media on Saturday night. "But you could see the way he was swinging (after the collision) that he was letting it go pretty good."

Efren Navarro clubbed a pair of solo dingers during a loss to the Twins on Saturday.

He didn't even start the game, coming in to replace the injured Miguel Cabrera in the second inning. He popped an Ervin Santana offering over the wall in the sixth inning and then victimized reliever Gabriel Moya in the ninth. The dingers were the first of the season for Navarro, in fact he's hit only one other major league home run, and that came way back in 2014. The 31-year-old first broke into the majors in 2011 with the Angels.

Miguel Cabrera will undergo an MRI on his back.

Cabrera has been bothered by lower back discomfort for the last couple of months and he had to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Twins after hitting a single in the bottom of the first inning. It sounds like an early shutdown could be in order for the 34-year-old slugger, even if the MRI shows no major damage.
Sep 23 - 9:38 PM

Yan Gomes went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI during an 11-4 rout of the Mariners on Saturday.

He smacked a solo shot off Ryan Garton in the eighth inning, then clocked a three-run bomb off Ariel Miranda in the ninth frame to put the game out of reach. The huge day gives a nice boost to Gomes' paltry .230/.305/.391 slash line. He has 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 102 games as the Indians' primary catcher this season.

Alex Wilson has been diagnosed with a broken right leg.

In more technical terms, it's a non-displaced fibula fracture. Wilson suffered the injury Saturday when he got struck by a 103.8 mph line drive off the bat of Joe Mauer in the top of the eighth inning. The setup man is obviously done for the year and this injury will have at least some effect on his offseason regimen.
Sep 23 - 8:45 PM

Sonny Gray gave up just one run in six innings and was credited with a 5-1 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

He allowed four hits and three walks while registering four strikeouts in the quality start. The only damage came on a Teoscar Hernandez solo shot in the third inning. Gray improves to 10-11 with a fine 3.31 ERA in 26 starts with the Athletics and Yankees this year. He has 151 strikeouts and 52 walks in 157 2/3 innings pitched.
Sep 23 - 8:17 PM

Jean Segura has been diagnosed with a sprain on the tip of his middle finger.

Segura suffered the injury Saturday in a play at second base. It doesn't sound too serious, but any type of ailment can be a season-ender at this point. Segura finished 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Mariners' loss to the Indians.
