Cliff Lee (neck) will make his next start Sunday against the Braves.

Lee hasn't pitched since July 21 due to a stiff neck, but he has felt much better in recent days. The veteran southpaw owns a 3.05 ERA over 20 starts this season.

According to Jim Allen of the Kyodo News, the Hiroshima Carp have informed right-handed starter Kenta Maeda that he will not be posted this offseason.

Maeda has been wanting to pitch in Major League Baseball for a couple of years, but he can't become an unrestricted free agent until after the 2017 season and his Japanese club is not willing to let him go early. There was talk in October that the 26-year-old would be able to command upwards of $130 million if posted this winter. He owns a terrific 2.44 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 1,303 1/3 career innings for Hiroshima.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Marlins, Braves and Giants have all shown interest in free agent Jake Peavy.

The Marlins' interest is contingent on Dan Haren following through with his inclination to retire after being dealt away from the west coast. Both the Braves and Giants are looking for pitching, with the Giants having missed out on a number of big-ticket free agents thus far this winter. Peavy had a 4.11 ERA this past season and shouldn't cost a team too much in terms of dollars or years.
Dec 17 - 7:18 PM

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Royals have struck a two-year, $20 million contract with free agent starter Edinson Volquez.

Volquez drew quite a bit of interest on the open market this winter after posting an impressive 3.04 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 140/71 K/BB ratio across 192 2/3 innings this past season for the Pirates. But he was one of the worst starting pitchers in baseball in 2013, so the Royals are taking a risk here that the sudden turnaround was legitimate.
Dec 17 - 5:40 PM

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM, the three-team Wil Myers trade is "done."

Bowden has the breakdown of who's heading where: Padres shortstop prospect Trea Turner and pitching prospect Joe Ross will go to the Nationals. Myers, Ryan Hanigan, and minor league pitchers Jose Castillo and Gerardo Reyes will go to the Padres. Steven Souza, Travis Ott, Rene Rivera, Burch Smith, and Jake Bauers will go to the Rays (with Ott and Souza coming from the Nats). All the players involved need to pass physicals before the trade can be made official.
Dec 17 - 5:33 PM

Nick Markakis underwent fusion surgery Wednesday to repair a herniated disk in his neck.

The expectation is that Markakis will be able to begin baseball-related activities by mid-February, but the Braves are probably going to take it easy on him in camp this spring just to be safe. The 31-year-old outfielder signed a four-year, $44 million free agent contract with Atlanta in early December. He'll be the team's leadoff man and right fielder in 2015.
Dec 17 - 4:43 PM

Marlins signed 1B/OF Michael Morse to a two-year, $16 million contract.

Morse hit .279/.336/.475 with 16 homers and 61 RBI in 131 games for the Giants last season. While he is 32 years old, Morse has shown a consistent bat when he's healthy and at a cheap price, he should provide nice numbers and veteran leadership for a Marlins offense that's coming together this off-season.
Dec 17 - 3:22 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that the Giants have re-signed Sergio Romo to a two-year, $15 million deal.

Romo had an up-and-down 2014 season, ending the year with a 3.72 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 59/12 K/BB ratio over 58 innings. While he drew interest from multiple big-market teams, he's apparently decided that he's most comfortable remaining with the reigning champs. They'll be getting him on a relatively cheap deal in comparison to other relievers this off-season.
Dec 17 - 2:53 PM

Mariners acquired OF Justin Ruggiano from Cubs for RHP Matt Brazis.

Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reported that the deal was done. Ruggiano hit .281/.337/.429 over 81 games in 2014. Health will be the primary concern with Ruggiano, though, as he underwent ankle surgery near the end of the 2014 campaign. He will compete for a starting job and, if nothing else, should be a serviceable backup bat for the M's.
Dec 17 - 12:35 PM

Red Sox acquired RHP Anthony Varvaro from the Braves for RHP Aaron Kurcz and cash considerations.

Varvaro was designated for assignment by the Braves several days ago. He's been a solid bullpen contributor, posting a 2.99 ERA over 153 appearances in the last four seasons. In 2014, he put up a 2.63 ERA. He should serve as a quality arm and supply the Red Sox with a nice depth piece.
Dec 17 - 12:18 PM

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Ian Desmond "remains a possibility" for the Mariners.

The Nationals don't seem optimistic about signing Desmond to a long-term extension, so they might decide to get something for him now even though he'd be a big part of a contending team in 2015. The Mariners are reportedly close to trading for a hitter, and it's possible Desmond might be their guy. The shortstop will make $11 million in 2015 before hitting free agency next winter.
Dec 16 - 11:41 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers are talking to teams about a trade involving Brandon League.

Rosenthal says that the Dodgers are willing to eat almost half of League's $7.5 million salary for next season in order to move him. League is coming off a nice season, having posted a 2.57 ERA over 63 appearances, so he could draw some interest with the Dodgers paying down part of his contract.
