Cubs transferred RHP Rafael Dolis from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Dolis has been on the shelf since May 27 with a right forearm strain. There is no timetable for his return.

Steven Matz (elbow) threw on flat ground from about 70 feet Monday morning in Mets camp.

Matz has been scratched from his final Grapefruit League start due to irritation in his left elbow. And while the Mets are claiming this is a minor issue, the left-hander needed surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow last October and he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2010, after being drafted in the second round in 2009. Matz figures to open the 2017 regular season on the 10-day disabled list, with Seth Lugo likely taking his rotation spot.

Cuban outfielder Luis Robert will hold an open showcase this Thursday in the Dominican Republic.

Robert is still waiting for Major League Baseball to declare him a free agent. The hope is it will happen before June 15, when the 2016-2017 signing period officially closes and the new Collective Bargaining Agreement rules are set in place. Those rules will put a hard cap on bonus pools, and teams like the Cardinals, Padres, Astros, Braves, and Nationals -- teams that have spent big money on the international market over the last 10 months -- will essentially be eliminated from signing Robert. Just about every MLB club is thought to have interest in the dynamic 19-year-old.

Nationals released RHP Joe Nathan.

Nathan asked to opt out of his minor league contract with the Nationals on Monday morning after being informed that he would not be on the Opening Day roster. He posted a 3.86 ERA with nine strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings this spring. The 42-year-old should be able to latch on with a new organization rather quickly.

Nolan Arenado smashed a two-run homer in the top of the first inning Sunday as the Rockies beat the Padres 4-1 in the Cactus League.

Arenado mostly struggled at the plate for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, but he doubled in his first game back with the Rockies on Friday and the star third baseman took Padres starter Jarred Cosart deep on Sunday. Arenado, 25, should be a top-seven pick in most standard fantasy leagues leading into the 2017 regular season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Sunday's Cactus League game that Scott Kazmir (hip) will not open the season in the starting rotation.

Kazmir struggled again in Sunday's start against the Rangers and continues to show severely diminished fastball velocity. The veteran southpaw admitted after the start that he's still bothered by his hip issue and doesn't feel like he has his lower half. Expect him to begin the season on the disabled list.

Jabari Blash finished 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBI in the Padres' 9-4 win over a Cubs split-squad on Sunday.

Blash singled and scored in the first inning, led off the third inning with a ground-rule double, and then slugged a grand slam in the top of the fourth off Cubs prospect Jonathan Martinez. Blash boasts a 1.056 OPS with six home runs and 17 RBI in 23 games this spring. He's played his way into a share of the left field job in San Diego.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times expects Corey Dickerson to begin the season as the Rays' leadoff hitter against right-handers.

Topkin projects Kevin Kiermaier to remain in the No. 2 spot and Dickerson to precede him. It's obviously very favorable news for Dickerson for fantasy purposes, as he slugged 22 home runs against righties last season and is a career .288/.335/.552 hitter against them. Dickerson entered Grapefruit League play on Sunday batting .367/.392/.633 with four longballs this spring.

Kolten Wong said Sunday that he would "100 percent" rather be traded than be platooned at second base.

It was one of a host of scathing comments from Wong in the wake of Cardinals manager Mike Matheny saying Saturday that the club would consider a platoon at second base. "I honestly don't give a (censored)," Wong said when asked about the team mulling over a platoon. Wong added that he doesn't want to be "wasting my time" with the Cards if they don't have faith in him. They're words Wong probably shouldn't have aired in public, but you can understand his frustration after the club essentially committed to him as the regular second baseman this winter. That said, Wong could make it all a moot point if he simply played better. He sports an underwhelming career .248/.309/.370 batting line and entered Sunday hitting just .182/.265/.250 this spring.

Khris Davis (quad) is playing in a minor league game Sunday.

Davis has dealt with a sore quad for a few days, but the A's have insisted that it's a minor injury. Assuming all goes well Sunday, he should be cleared to return to Cactus League games this week. Davis is coming off a breakout power season for Oakland that saw him pop 42 longballs.

Raisel Iglesias (elbow, hips) played catch Saturday and is expected to resume throwing off a mound soon.

Iglesias fell in the shower a few weeks ago and has dealt with a sore pitching elbow and hips since, but he's making nice progress. Reds manager Bryan Price indicated Sunday that the reliever has a shot to be ready for Opening Day. Iglesias is first in line for saves if healthy, although the Reds aren't planning to name a set closer.
Mar 26 - 11:58 AM

Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday that it's very unlikely Devin Mesoraco (hip, shoulder) will be ready for Opening Day.

That has been the expectation for a while now, as Mesoraco simply hasn't gotten enough work this spring with just 14 at-bats and zero full games under his belt. He would seem to have a chance to be ready sometime in April, although the Reds will ease him into action once he's on the active roster. Cincy is slated to open the year with Tucker Barnhart and Rule 5 pick Stuart Turner at catcher.
