Howie Kendrick left Monday's game against the Rangers with an apparent left knee injury.

Kendrick was hurt when he collided with right fielder Collin Cowgill on what turned out to be a two-run triple for Mitch Moreland. His knee appeared to be hyperextended and he had to be helped off the field. It certainly looked like a probable DL injury, but we'll have to see what the Angels say.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said after Monday's game that Jake Lamb is dealing with a bruised left hand.

Lamb isn't expected to undergo an MRI, but Hale said that they'll try to give him some rest and treatment. Consider him day-to-day. Lamb went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Monday and is now hitless over his last five games.

Aaron Sanchez struck out seven batters across seven shutout innings in Monday's 4-2 victory over the Padres.

Sanchez was dominant yet again, holding the Padres to just three hits -- two singles -- while walking two. He's yielded only 113 hits and 39 walks over 132 1/3 innings this season, good for a 1.15 WHIP to go along with his 2.72 ERA. Sanchez is now 11-1 on the season and hasn't given up more than two runs in any of his last seven starts. It's possible he'll hit a wall at some point or even be moved to the bullpen, but Sanchez hasn't shown any signs of slowing down yet. He'll get the Orioles next.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Blue Jays are the "front-runners" for Padres outfielder Melvin Upton.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported over the weekend that the Orioles and Blue Jays were the leaders in pursuit for Upton, but it appears that Toronto has emerged as the favorite in the past day or so. Rosenthal hears that the Indians are also in the mix. Upton has enjoyed a resurgent season in San Diego, batting .256/.304/.439 with 16 home runs, 45 RBI, and 20 steals across 95 games. He's under contract for $16.45 million next season.

Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that moving Ivan Nova has become "the next priority" for the Yankees following the Aroldis Chapman deal.

ESPN's Buster Olney reported earlier in the day Monday that team executives have been pushing for a trade involving Nova, so things could come together quickly now that the Chapman deal is finalized. "They're focused on him," a major-league source told Feinsand. "They're looking at the guys with expiring contracts first - though not Beltran right now." Nova, an impending free agent, has posted a 4.65 ERA and 72/22 K/BB ratio over 93 innings this season. In a weak market for starters, he could draw some interest as rotation depth.

Joe Panik (concussion) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Sacramento.

Panik had to briefly halt his minor league rehab assignment last week, but he's back on track now and could join the Giants by the end of the week if all goes well. The 25-year-old has been out since June 27 due to concussion symptoms.
Jul 25 - 8:13 PM

Monday's game between the Cardinals and Mets was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, beginning at 4:10 p.m. ET. Monday's starters, Noah Syndergaard and Carlos Martinez are expected to be pushed back to Game 1 on Tuesday. Jaime Garcia and Bartolo Colon will pitch the nightcap.
Jul 25 - 7:12 PM

Brandon Belt was moved down to sixth in the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

Belt has been the primary No. 3 hitter dating back to mid-June, but he's batting just .185 with zero homers and a .589 OPS this month. Jarrett Parker will get an opportunity to hit third Monday against Anthony DeSclafani.
Jul 25 - 6:19 PM

Melvin Upton is out of the Padres' lineup for a second straight day Monday.

It's obviously a bit curious as Upton's name continues to float in trade rumors, but Padres manager Andy Green said that nothing is done yet and that the decision was made to give him a couple of days off. It still sounds very likely he'll be traded by August 1. Alex Dickerson will start in left field again Monday.
Jul 25 - 5:46 PM

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Domingo Santana had a "big setback" with his right elbow.

Santana was scratched from a rehab game on Monday after feeling continued soreness in his elbow. He'll be shut down for now, but suddenly his ability contribute at all in the second half is in question. Santana has been sidelined since June 7.
Jul 25 - 5:43 PM

Chris Sale will make his return Thursday against the Cubs.

The White Sox suspended Sale for five games after he cut up some throwback uniforms with a knife as a bizarre form of protest. There's a chance that Thursday could be a final start with the White Sox, as the trade deadline is approaching and there has been quite a bit of a chatter about a possible deal. Of course, it would require a monster haul for Chicago to part with him and they might not see the sort of offers they want.
Jul 25 - 5:32 PM

Rockies purchased the contract of OF David Dahl from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Dahl has officially been called up to the majors and will bat sixth and play left field in his major league debut Monday against the Orioles. The 22-year-old has batted .314/.394/.569 with 18 homers, 61 RBI, and 17 steals over 92 games this season between Double- and Triple-A. It's unclear how the playing time will shake out, but there could be a clear path if Carlos Gonzalez and/or Charlie Blackmon are traded. Obviously the fantasy potential is huge here, especially by virtue of playing half of his games in Coors Field.
