Carlos Beltran launched his 20th home run of the season Tuesday in the Cardinals' win over the Dodgers.

Beltran singled off Clayton Kershaw in the fourth inning and then launched a solo shot to right field off Brandon League in the eighth. The 36-year-old has hit 20 or more homers in 12 of his 16 major league seasons. He is on pace for 29 dingers and 87 RBI this year.

Josh Hamilton (shoulder) will not play until this weekend, at the earliest.

Hamilton had been hoping to return as soon as Wednesday,' but Angels manager Mike Scioscia has ruled that out. The outfielder did hit off a tee Monday and Scioscia said Hamilton is doing "pretty good." Fantasy owners don't need to be counting on him playing at all this week.
Sep 22 - 8:28 PM

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Monday that the chances of Matt Shoemaker (oblique) pitching this week are "very remote."

The good news is that Shoemaker played catch Monday and Scioscia said he's "very encouraged" about the right-hander's chances of being ready for the postseason. The Angels would obviously prefer the rookie right-hander getting a tune-up before the playoffs, but obviously the main goal is to have him available for postseason play, and it sounds like they will.
Sep 22 - 8:26 PM

Collin McHugh has been shut down for the season due to his innings workload.

Between the majors and minors, McHugh has tossed a career-high 173 2/3 innings this season. That's only 8 1/3 more than he threw in 2013 and four more than he threw in 2012, but the Astros have obviously decided it's enough. McHugh was one of the biggest breakout surprises this season, posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 157/41 K/BB ratio over 154 2/3 big league innings.
Sep 22 - 7:16 PM

Howie Kendrick (hamstring) is not in the Angels' lineup Monday.

Kendrick tweaked his left hamstring during Sunday's game. The Angels consider the ailment minor, but they'll play it cautiously with him this week with the AL West already wrapped up. Gordon Beckham is at second base in Kendrick's place Monday.
Sep 22 - 6:51 PM

Tyson Ross will be shut down for the season after being diagnosed with a slight strain of flexor muscles in right forearm.

The Padres' doctors aren't overly concerned about the injury, but there's obviously no reason for them to allow Ross to make another start. A first-time All-Star in 2014, Ross' season ends with a 2.81 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 195/72 K/BB ratio over 195 2/3 innings. Joe Wieland will start for the Padres on Wednesday versus the Rockies.
Sep 22 - 6:45 PM

Alex Avila is back in the Tigers' lineup Monday.

It will be his first start in over a week due to post-concussion issues. Avila took batting practice and played in a simulated game on Sunday without any issues, clearing the way for his return to action. He's at catcher and hitting seventh against Chris Bassitt and the White Sox.
Sep 22 - 6:21 PM

Jed Lowrie (foot) is in Monday's lineup against the Angels.

Lowrie was hit in the foot by a pitch on Sunday and eventually left the game, but he's going to try to give it a go Monday. He'll bat sixth against C.J. Wilson.
Sep 22 - 5:58 PM

Jason Heyward (thumb) remains out of the Braves' lineup Monday against the Pirates.

Heyward hasn't played since he was hit in the left thumb by a pitch last Wednesday. It was reported Sunday that he was still unable to grip a bat, so fantasy owners would do well to have a backup plan this week.
Sep 22 - 5:56 PM

Masahiro Tanaka feels good and is on track to start against the Red Sox on Saturday.

Good news. Tanaka looked sharp in his first start since July 8 on Sunday against the Blue Jays, allowing one run over 5 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking none. He threw 70 pitches in his return, but will be bumped up to 85 pitches for his final start of the season on Saturday. There haven't been many success stories with pitchers rehabbing a UCL tear, but things are looking up for Tanaka at the moment.
Sep 22 - 4:02 PM

Adam Eaton was excused from the White Sox on Sunday due to a private family matter.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura is expected to offer more details about Eaton's situation Monday evening. The dynamic outfielder is batting .347/.399/.443 in 185 plate appearances since the All-Star break.
Sep 22 - 3:53 PM

Steve Pearce (wrist) is aiming to return Wednesday.

Pearce got a cortisone shot in his sore right wrist on Saturday and told reporters Monday that he already feels much better. The Orioles have already clinched the American League East, so they can play it safe.
