Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with his first major league home run -- a two-run blast off Gerrit Cole -- in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Yelich also drew a walk and scored two runs. The 21-year-old owns a cool .318/.366/.439 batting line through 16 games in the majors and has hit safely in each of his last eight. Currently functioning as the Marlins' leadoff man, he should be owned in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Gary Sanchez continued to tear the cover off the ball in Friday’s 14-4 win over the Orioles, going 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored.

At this point, it would be more weird if he didn’t homer. Sanchez doubled in a pair of runs in the second inning before slugging a two-run homer in the fifth. He now has 10 homers and 20 RBI in 19 games since his call-up earlier this month. He’s just the third player in MLB history to reach 10 homers through his first 22 career games. It’s unfair to expect this sort of production to continue at this ridiculous pace, but fantasy owners are enjoying the ride.

Justin Verlander earned his 14th victory of the season on Friday, allowing just two runs on four hits over 7 2/3 innings against the Angels.

Verlander punched out eight on the night while issuing one free pass. Albert Pujols tagged him for a solo homer in the first inning, then he was able to settle in nicely and keep the Angels off the board until Kole Calhoun's RBI double in the eighth. He has been fantastic since his rocky start to the season and now sports a stellar 3.33 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 189/46 K/BB ratio over 181 innings. He'll take on the White Sox his next time out at home on Wednesday.

Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBI in Friday’s loss to the Yankees.

Machado was the only bright spot on this night for Baltimore, as he slugged a solo homer in the first inning before going deep again in the sixth, this time for a two-run blast. This was the ninth multi-homer game of his career and his third of the season. He’s batting .305/.358/.564 with 31 homers and 81 RBI through 123 games on the year. While the speed hasn’t been for fantasy owners, he’s poised to blow away his career-highs in the power department.

Adam Jones was pulled from Friday's game against the Yankees after appearing to re-injure his hamstring.

Jones left Thursday's game with cramping in his hamstring, but tested it out pregame and was deemed good to go on Friday. He appeared to re-injure it though while running to first base on in his first at-bat. Expect the O's to provide an update on his status shortly.

Clayton Kershaw (back) made it through Friday's bullpen session without any issues and will progress to facing live hitters next week.

It's another positive step toward a return to the Dodgers rotation this season for the star southpaw. If all goes well with his next session, he could be cleared for a minor league rehab start. Barring any setbacks, a return in early September doesn't look so outrageous any longer.
Aug 26 - 7:35 PM

Blue Jays acquired C Dioner Navarro from the White Sox for LHP Colton Turner.

Navarro has plenty of familiarity with the Jays after spending the 2014 and 2015 seasons in Toronto. He'll provide solid depth behind the plate as well as an extra bat off the bench for the Jays during the stretch run.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays plan on releasing Desmond Jennings on Saturday.

Once considered one of the most promising young outfielders in the game, the 29-year-old has battled injuries and poor performance for much of the past three seasons. In 65 games this year, Jennings hit just .200/.281/.350 with seven homers, 20 RBI and a 58/21 K/BB ratio in 225 plate appearances. Still, he's only 29-years-old and there should be plenty of clubs willing to take a chance on him.
Aug 26 - 6:26 PM

Yulieski Gurriel (hamstring) is back in the Astros' lineup Friday.

It's his first start since Sunday, when he exited his first game with the 'Stros with a tight right hamstring. Gurriel is in the designated hitter spot and batting sixth against Drew Smyly and the Rays.
Aug 26 - 5:08 PM

Jay Bruce (calf) is back in the Mets' lineup Friday.

Bruce was pulled from Wednesday's game and sat out Thursday with a right calf cramp, but he's fine. He's in right field and batting sixth versus Adam Morgan and the Phillies.
Aug 26 - 4:56 PM

Diamondbacks activated OF A.J. Pollock from the 60-day disabled list.

Pollock will make his season debut for the D'Backs on Friday, as he's in center field and batting second against Brandon Finnegan and the Reds. The outfielder was on the shelf for the bulk of the first five months of the season with a fractured elbow.
Aug 26 - 4:52 PM

Kyle Seager (foot) remained out of the Mariners' lineup Friday.

It's the third straight game he's missed after he fouled a ball off his foot on Tuesday. The good news is that Seager will be available off the bench and is expected to be back in the lineup Saturday. Consider him day-to-day. Shawn O'Malley is at third base.
