Jorge Soler (leg) is likely done for the season.

Soler's fractured left tibia has not progressed to the point where it's realistic that he'll be able to get back into minor league games before the end of the 2013 campaign. But the highly-touted 21-year-old Cuban defector could participate in the Arizona Fall League. He hit .281/.343/.467 with eight homers, five steals and 35 RBI in 55 games this summer for High-A Daytona.

Cubs placed RHP Brandon Morrow on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to June 17, with a back injury.

Morrow injured his back while undressing following Sunday night's series finale against the Cardinals and was unavailable for Tuesday's day-night doubleheader versus the Dodgers. Now the Cubs' closer will be sidelined for at least the next seven days. Pedro Strop boasts a 1.76 ERA in 30 2/3 innings this season and seems like the best bet to vulture saves in Morrow's absence, though manager Joe Maddon might opt to mix and match if it's only going to be a short DL stint.

Marcus Stroman (shoulder) will return to the Blue Jays' starting rotation this Saturday against the Angels.

Stroman was rained out of a second rehab start Monday at Double-A New Hampshire, but he did fit in a simulated game. The 27-year-old right-hander allowed two earned runs on a hit and four walks over 4 1/3 innings in his lone minor league rehab appearance June 13 with High-A Dunedin. This is probably a wait-and-see situation in fantasy leagues, given that Stroman had a brutal 7.71 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over his first seven starts with Toronto this season. He has been sidelined since May 9 because of right shoulder fatigue.

Phillies placed INF J.P. Crawford on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured left hand.

Crawford suffered the injury in Tuesday night's game against the Cardinals when he get hit on the hand by a Luke Weaver pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning. He is expected to miss the next 4-6 weeks. Mitchell Walding has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding 25-man roster move, but Maikel Franco figures to get the bulk of playing time at third base for the next month-plus.

Joey Lucchesi (hip) will return to the Padres' starting rotation on Wednesday against the Athletics.

Lucchesi worked four scoreless innings in his lone rehab start last Thursday at High-A Lake Elsinore, striking out six batters and touching 96 mph with his fastball. The rookie left-hander had a strong 3.23 ERA, 1.225 WHIP, and 48/15 K/BB ratio through his first 47 1/3 major league innings this season with San Diego when he landed on the disabled list May 15 due to a right hip strain. Get him active for this return start versus the A's.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday night that Sam Dyson will serve as the team's primary closer for now.

Hunter Strickland broke his right (pitching) hand when he punched a door out of frustration following a blown save Monday against the Marlins and is expected to miss the next 6-8 weeks. Dyson earned the first save in Strickland's absence on Tuesday versus Miami, inducing a game-ending double play from Brian Anderson after Will Smith issued a walk to Yadiel Rivera and struck out Derek Dietrich to begin the top of the ninth inning. Dyson holds an impressive 2.45 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 33 innings this season. Mark Melancon and Tony Watson also make for good stashes in mixed fantasy leagues in case Dyson can't keep it going.

Rich Hill’s return to Dodgers’ rotation Tuesday proved fruitful, as he tossed six scoreless innings and settled for a no-decision against the Cubs.

Hill showed no rust after missing the last month of action with another blister issue. He permitted just three singles and two walks while striking out six Cubs hitters in the excellent effort. Unfortunately for Hill, he missed out on a win when Kyle Schwarber took reliever Erik Goeddel deep to knot things up in the seventh inning. The Cubs eventually won in extras. Hill’s next start will also come against the Cubs, but that one will be at home.

A.J. Ramos will undergo season-ending surgery Wednesday for a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Ramos was placed on the disabled list May 28 with what was originally described as right rotator cuff tendinitis. After getting a number of different opinions, the torn labrum was revealed and the 31-year-old setup man opted to go under the knife. He'll be a free agent this winter and might struggle to attract interest after posting an ugly 6.41 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 28 appearances this season for the Mets. His rehabilitation from this shoulder procedure could very well linger into next spring.

Freddy Peralta was excellent in his return to the majors Tuesday, fanning seven over six scoreless frames in the Brewers’ 3-2 victory over the Pirates.

Peralta gave up just two singles – one of them being the infield variety – and didn’t walk a batter across his six superb innings. He’s now allowed just six hits over 15 2/3 innings in his first three major league starts, and the no free passes is huge for a guy who walked six in his last outing for the Brewers last month. We remain worried about Peralta’s control getting him into trouble, but he’s earned more starts and looks like a good streaming option Sunday against a Cardinals offense that’s struggled.

Matt Carpenter drilled a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning of Tuesday's win over the Phillies.

Carpenter was hitless in his first three plate appearances, but he then tied the game up with a two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning before taking rookie flamethrower Seranthony Dominguez deep on an 0-2 count with two outs in the ninth to break a tie. He's homered four times over his last five games and now has 12 longballs on the season.
Jun 19 - 10:37 PM

Odubel Herrera homered for the third day in a row in the Phillies' loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Herrera mysteriously tried to bunt for a hit in the first inning with two on and nobody out. He had a better plan of attack in his second plate appearance when he took Luke Weaver over the right-field wall. Herrera had been in a horrible slump but has now gone deep four times over his last five contests and has 10 hits over his last six games.
Jun 19 - 10:32 PM

Trea Turner had a monster night at the plate Tuesday, going 4-for-4 with a solo home run in the Nationals' win over the Orioles.

Turner's solo shot was the only hit the Nats had through the first four innings. The shortstop led off the fifth with a single and Washington's offense got to work after that, ultimately totaling 14 hits and nine runs. Turner's home run was his eighth on the season and first in 12 tilts.
