Blue Jays placed RHP Josh Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm injury.

Johnson was scratched from his scheduled turn in the Blue Jays' starting rotation on Monday and reported no improvement in his throwing arm on Tuesday. It has been a disastrous season for the impending free agent.

Danny Salazar racked up 10 strikeouts over six innings as he defeated the Twins in his season debut on Saturday.

The young right-hander surrendered two runs on six hits and a pair of walks on the afternoon. The Indians are committed to keeping Salazar in the rotation and he showed a glimpse of why that is with this terrific start. He'll look to keep things rolling when he takes the ball against the Tigers in Detroit on Friday.

Jose Abreu blasted a grand slam home run on Saturday, helping to power the White Sox to a 12-3 victory over the Tigers in Detroit.

Abreu's slam came as part of a seven-run fourth inning that chased Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez. He would also add a single and a double in the rout, finishing the afternoon 3-for-6 with a pair of runs scored. He's now hitting .250/.302/.550 with three homers and six RBI on the young season.
Apr 18 - 4:26 PM

Alcides Escobar (knee) is not in the Royals starting lineup on Saturday.

Escobar strained his knee Friday when Oakland's Brett Lawrie took him out with a hard slide at second base. Christian Colon will fill in at shortstop. Escobar was off to a good start before the injury, hitting .326 with seven runs and five RBI. Consider him day-to-day.
Apr 18 - 4:20 PM

Josh Donaldson blasted a walk off home run leading off the tenth inning on Saturday, propelling the Blue Jays to a 6-5 victory over the Braves.

Donaldson belted his first two homers of the season on Friday and carried that power surge right over through Saturday's contest. He finished the afternoon 3-for-4 and also scored a pair of runs, and is now hitting an impressive .340/.396/.596 with 10 RBI on the year.
Apr 18 - 4:15 PM

Billy Hamilton left Saturday's game against the Cardinals with an apparent injury.

Hamilton legged out an infield single in the top of the eighth inning but had to leap over Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams and landed awkwardly. It looked like it might have been a groin strain. There should be an update from the Reds within the hour.
Apr 18 - 4:15 PM

Royals placed RHP Greg Holland on the 15-day disabled list with a right pectoral strain.

Holland hasn't allowed a run in four appearances this season, but must have incurred the injury during Friday's appearance. Wade Davis will presumably handle the ninth-inning gig while Holland is sidelined and is a tremendous addition in any mixed leagues where he's unowned.
Apr 18 - 3:43 PM

Matt Holliday was removed from Saturday's game against the Reds in the second inning due to mild tightness in his back.

The Cardinals are calling his early exit purely precautionary. It wouldn't be surprising to see the veteran outfielder get a day of rest on Sunday as well, but the team should have an update on his status after the game.
Apr 18 - 2:45 PM

Orioles placed INF Jonathan Schoop on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 PCL tear in his left knee.

Schoop also has a sprained MCL. He sustained the injury in Friday's game from a hard slide by Pablo Sandoval at second base. The O's are encouraged that there was no damage to his ACL and are optimistic that he'll be able to return before the end of the regular season. Ryan Flaherty and Everth Cabrera should both see regular playing time in Baltimore's middle infield for now.
Apr 18 - 1:11 PM

Jonathan Schoop is heading to the disabled list after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 PCL tear and MCL sprain.

Schoop was the victim of a hard slide into second base by Pablo Sandoval during Friday's game and was spotted limping around the clubhouse on Saturday. It's a tough blow for the Orioles and for fantasy owners of the young infielder. O's manager Buck Showalter expects him to return before the end of the season, though there is no clear timetable at the moment.
Apr 18 - 1:02 PM

Trevor Plouffe delivered a walk-off solo homer in a 3-2 win over the Indians in 11 innings on Friday night.

How's that for a slump-buster? Plouffe came into Friday's action hitting .133 and went hitless over his first four at-bats before taking Bryan Shaw deep to leadoff the bottom of the 11th and send the Target Field fans home happy. The 28-year-old hasn't been able to replicate the power production he had in 2012, but he's capable of being a useful corner infielder in deeper mixed leagues.
Apr 18 - 12:58 AM

Michael Brantley (back) went 2-for-5 in his return to the lineup Friday.

Both hits were singles. Brantley, who served as the DH on Friday, missed the previous four games due to a back injury. The issue has already flared up a couple of times since spring training, so he might not be out of the woods yet.
