Miguel Cabrera launched a walkoff home run in the Tigers' 6-5 win over the Royals on Saturday.

The man never ceases to amaze. Cabrera hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring Jose Iglesias, and then played the hero with his drive down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth. He is on pace for 51 home runs and 154 RBI, and Detroit has a 6 1/2-game lead in the American League Central standings.

Erik Johnson will start Sunday in Kansas City.

Johnson has registered a stellar 2.37 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 136/41 K/BB ratio across 132 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Charlotte and is worth another look in deeper mixed fantasy leagues. The right-hander struggled in five starts with the White Sox in 2014.

Glen Perkins (back) won't be with the Twins for the start of their upcoming road trip.

Perkins is still dealing with a back spasm and could barely walk in the clubhouse ahead of Thursday afternoon's series finale at home against the White Sox. Kevin Jepsen is a must-own in all standard fantasy leagues. Perkins, 32, has also missed time this year with a neck injury.
Sep 3 - 11:27 AM

Jose Peraza will be out for at least the next 3-5 games due to a sore hamstring.

It's part of the reason the Dodgers are calling up top infield prospect Corey Seager on Thursday. Pereza has impressed so far with Los Angeles, slashing .267/.353/.467 in 17 plate appearances. He was acquired from the Braves in July as part of the Hector Olivera trade.
Sep 3 - 11:21 AM

Miguel Sano is not in the Twins' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the White Sox.

Sano has been bothered by a mild right hamstring strain for a week, but the injury isn't slowing him down at all. He'll sit Thursday mostly for routine rest. Joe Mauer is at designated hitter against the Pale Hose.
Sep 3 - 11:08 AM

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Dodgers are calling up top infield prospect Corey Seager.

Seager was arguably the best young talent left in the minor leagues in what has become The Year of the Rookie at the major league level. The 21-year-old former first-round pick boasts a .306/.368/.523 career batting line on the farm and he's tallied 38 home runs and 86 doubles over the last two seasons between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A. Seager has been playing shortstop and a little bit of third base this summer, and he could see semi-regular playing time on the Los Angeles infield if he gets off to a good start. He's probably not going to be truly fantasy relevant until 2016, though.
Sep 3 - 10:03 AM

Carlos Gonzalez had a grand slam, a two-run homer and a sac fly to power the Rockies to a 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Gonzalez is the eighth player to drive in seven runs in a game this year. He's now just one away from matching his career high of 34 homers, and with 80 RBI, he has a chance to reach the century mark for the second time in his career. It's too bad for his fantasy value that he doesn't try steals any more, but his owners will make that trade off in return for continued health.
Sep 3 - 12:54 AM

Clayton Kershaw tied a career-high with 15 strikeouts in Wednesday's complete-game gem against the Giants, a 2-1 victory.

Things got a bit hairy in the ninth, as Kershaw was visited by Don Mattingly with runners on first and second and two outs in the ninth. It would have been understandable if he'd been pulled; Kershaw became just the second pitcher this year to reach the 130-pitch mark. As is, he scattered six hits while giving up the one earned run. He walked one. Oh, and what happened after Mattingly walked back to the dugout? Kershaw struck out Marlon Byrd to tie his career best. We're pretty sure Kershaw isn't going to strike out 14 or more batters next time around against the Angels, but one never does know with him.
Sep 3 - 12:46 AM

Jonathan Lucroy knocked in three runs in a 2-for-5 effort as the Brewers beat the Pirates on Wednesday.

Lucroy opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning, then added a two-run single in the fourth to break a 3-3 tie. The catcher is on a 10-game hitting streak. At the end of August, he brought his OPS over .700 for the first time all season. Currently, Lucroy carries a .260/.323/.391 batting line with seven home runs and 40 RBI.
Sep 2 - 11:21 PM

Glen Perkins was unavailable Wednesday due to back stiffness.

Perkins dealt with back issues recently but pitched as recently as Tuesday, earning the save against the White Sox. On Wednesday, that honor went to Kevin Jepsen as Perkins watched. Perkins had a precautionary MRI taken of the back and is likely to stay behind as the team departs on a road trip Friday. The results of the MRI, and how his back feels Thursday, should give a better indication of what he's dealing with.
Sep 2 - 11:10 PM

Yordano Ventura fanned 11 Tigers and pitched seven innings of one-run ball in Wednesday's win.

The Tigers weren't able to do a whole lot against the right-hander, who scattered five hits and a walk. The only run came around in the sixth inning on an Ian Kinsler ground out. Ventura has pitched inconsistently for most of the year, but has started to put it together. In his last five starts, he has a 1.13 ERA with a 43/13 K/BB ratio over 32 innings. Ventura hosts the Twins in his next start.
Sep 2 - 11:07 PM

Evan Longoria hit a pair of home runs, but it wasn't enough in Wednesday's 11-inning, 7-6 loss versus the Orioles.

Longoria smacked a two-run home run in the middle of a four-run third inning against Kevin Gausman. He then tacked on what proved to be an important -- though ultimately inconsequential -- insurance run with a solo home run off the foul pole in left field off of Darren O'Day. Longoria has gone yard three times in his last three games and now has 17 on the year with 61 RBI and a .268/.329/.426 triple-slash line.
