Marlins placed INF Placido Polanco on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Polanco hasn't played since getting hit by a pitch in the head Friday and will be reevaluated this week. Gil Velazquez has been called up from Triple-A New Orleans to replace him on the active roster.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports that the Mets are working toward a deal with Jose Bautista.

DiComo notes, however, that the Mets are not the only team showing interest in Bautista, who was released by the Braves on Sunday after batting just .143/.250/.343 over 40 plate appearances. It sounds like the 37-year-old will have a new home by the end of the day Tuesday. He would likely play the corner outfield in New York after struggling defensively at third base in his short time with Atlanta.

Diamondbacks placed OF Steven Souza on the 10-day disabled list with a right pectoral strain.

It's the same injury that cost Souza the first five weeks of the season, and this could very well be another extended absence. Key injuries continue to pile up for the Diamondbacks, who have recalled outfielder Socrates Brito in a corresponding 25-man roster move.
May 22 - 4:19 PM

Rays manager Kevin Cash noted Tuesday that Willy Adames will only be up for 2-3 days.

Adames is simply filling in for Joey Wendle, who was placed on the paternity leave list Tuesday. Adames is a big-time talent and he will start at shortstop and bat fifth Tuesday against the Red Sox, but he's probably not worth serious consideration in standard redraft leagues quite yet.
May 22 - 4:17 PM

Madison Bumgarner (finger) threw a successful simulated game on Tuesday.

As long as he responds well to the workout, the ace left-hander should be cleared to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Sacramento. He's expected to make around three rehab starts before joining the Giants' rotation around the middle of June. Bumgarner has been out all year with a fractured left pinkie.
May 22 - 4:06 PM

Tyler O'Neill is starting in center field and will hit fifth against the Royals on Tuesday.

O'Neill gives Tommy Pham a night off. The 22-year-old rookie has been scorching with the bat since being recalled on Friday, and has three homers over his last three games to go along with a .583 average and six RBI in that time frame.
May 22 - 3:41 PM

Rays recalled SS Willy Adames from Triple-A Durham.

Adames will take the place of Joey Wendle, who is being place on the paternity list. The Rays will have Adames hit the ground running, as he's starting at shortstop on Tuesday and batting fifth against Chris Sale and the Red Sox. He had been excellent in the 2018 season for the Durham Bulls, slashing .311/.387/.466 with four homers in 40 games. The 22-year-old shortstop is a smart hitter who will draw his share of strikeouts, but compensates with walks. He also makes hard contact all over the field, and there's some power in his right-handed bat, too. There could be an adjustment period, but the talent is here for Adames to succeed at the MLB level. The only question is whether he'll be around long enough to be worth a pickup in standard fantasy leagues.
May 22 - 3:08 PM

Mariners placed 2B Dee Gordon on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 21, with a fractured right big toe.

In place of Gordon, the Mariners are calling up Dan Vogelbach. It's just another in a long line of bad luck occurrences for Seattle, as the left-handed hitting lead off hitter had just made a switch to second base after the suspension of Robinson Cano for 80 games for testing positive for a masking agent. Gordon was off to a strong start on the season, hitting .304 with 25 runs scored and an AL-leading 16 steals. We won't see him back with the Mariners until June now, at the earliest, and this toe fracture could sideline him through the All-Star break.
May 22 - 1:56 PM

Gleyber Torres homered twice, totaling three RBI, in the Yankees' 10-5 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

The 21-year-old top infield prospect hit both of his bombs off 44-year-old Rangers starter Bartolo Colon -- a two-run shot in the top of the second inning, and a solo shot in the top of the sixth. Torres was not a huge slugger in the minor leagues, but he already has six home runs in his first 25 major league games, along with 18 RBI and a sweet .321/.389/.571 batting line. The kid is dripping with talent.
May 21 - 11:40 PM

Twins designated RHP Phil Hughes for assignment.

Hughes still has more than $22 million remaining on his contract that runs through the end of next season, which the Twins are still responsible for. They're wisely treating it as a sunk cost and moving on. Hughes holds a 5.99 ERA since the beginning of 2016 and has looked worse than ever this year after coming back from a second thoracic outlet surgery. He'll turn 32 next month and will undoubtedly have to settle for a minor league contract wherever he winds up.
May 21 - 11:24 PM

Manny Machado clubbed his 15th home run of the season Monday in the Orioles' 3-2 defeat of the White Sox.

It was a fourth-inning solo shot off White Sox left-hander Hector Santiago. Machado also drew a walk in the victory, finishing 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. The 25-year-old impending free agent superstar is batting .343/.420/.663 with the 15 dingers and 43 RBI in 47 total games this season.
May 21 - 11:21 PM

Jose Berrios held the Tigers to two runs over eight innings Monday in the Twins' 4-2 victory.

Nicholas Castellanos popped Berrios for a solo homer in the top of the first inning and an RBI single in the top of the third, but the 23-year-old right-hander allowed just one other hit and struck out nine in his second straight dominant outing. Berrios has brought his season ERA down to 3.82 and he's also rocking an impressive 0.91 WHIP and 59/12 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings this year. Up next is a road start against the Mariners.
