Rafael Betancourt earned his first save since returning from the disabled list, and 16th overall, against the Phillies on Tuesday.

The Rockies showed faith in Betancourt by restoring him to the closer role upon his return, and he's rewarded them with two scoreless innings since his activation. The closer is now 16-of-17 in save chances and has a 2.93 ERA in 27 2/3 innings this year.

Joey Votto went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run as the Reds shut out the Cardinals 4-0 on Tuesday.

Votto hit a single and a double to go along with his three-run homer in the sixth inning. The multi-hit game was his eighth in his last 11 contests, including five three-hit outings. After a lull in early July, the 31-year-old is back to hitting a robust .311/.428/.538 with 19 homers, 51 RBI and 55 runs scored overall.

Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports that Mookie Betts will likely be placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Betts is showing concussion symptoms after tumbling over the short bullpen wall at Fenway Park while trying to make a catch during Tuesday's game. It's unclear at this point how much time he might miss, but it makes no sense for the Red Sox to push him. Jackie Bradley Jr. is expected to be called up to take Betts' spot on the roster and in center field.

Curt Casali contributed two home runs in Tuesday's rout of the Tigers, finishing 3-for-4.

Casali belted two home runs on Monday as well. He drilled a two-run home run to left-center off of David Price in the fourth inning and added a solo shot in the sixth. Casali has only 55 plate appearances on the year, but has gone yard seven times with 11 RBI and a .300/.345/.780 batting line.

Jose Abreu went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI as the White Sox jumped on the Red Sox 9-4 on Tuesday.

Abreu had three of the team's 14 hits on the evening, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth before adding an RBI double in the eighth. The homer was his 16th of the year, giving him 56 RBI. The three-hit night extended his modest hitting streak to eight games while raising his overall line to .296/.349/.489.
Jul 28 - 10:44 PM

Eric Hosmer was responsible for both runs as the Royals edged the Indians on Tuesday, finishing 3-for-4.

Hosmer broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single, then broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth with a solo home run off of Trevor Bauer. He broke a 25-game homerless drought last week and now has three round-trippers in his last seven games. Hosmer has 11 home runs overall with 55 RBI and a .313/.372/.478 batting line.

Jose Fernandez improved to 4-0 after tossing six innings of one-run ball to beat the Nationals on Tuesday.

The only run came on a Wilson Ramos sacrifice fly in the second inning. Fernandez worked around four hits and four walks with five strikeouts. It was certainly the least dominant of Fernandez's first five starts of the season. He boasts a terrific 2.53 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and a 37/7 K/BB ratio over 32 innings. Fernandez will go up against the Padres at home next in an attempt to remain undefeated.
Jul 28 - 10:20 PM

Chris Davis crushed a pair of home runs to drive in five runs, helping the Orioles take down the Braves on Tuesday.

The O's fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but Davis quickly responded with a three-run home run in the bottom half. He added a two-run shot in the second, with both blasts coming against Julio Teheran -- his only hits in four at-bats on the night. Davis is swinging a hot stick as he's homered five times in his last seven games, giving him 24 on the season with 65 RBI and a .243/.325/.497 line.
Jul 28 - 10:09 PM

Jose Bautista (hamstring) said after Tuesday's game that he's just dealing with a cramp and expects to play Wednesday.

Bautista had to be lifted after pulling up while running out a groundball. It remains to be seen whether the Blue Jays are as optimistic as the outfielder is, but it does appear he's avoided a serious injury.
Jul 28 - 10:00 PM

Ken Giles, in his new role as the Phillies' closer, pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's victory versus the Blue Jays to pick up his first save of the season.

Giles allowed a leadoff single to Edwin Encarnacion, but got Chris Colabello to fly out, Russell Martin to line out, and Danny Valencia to ground out in an otherwise easy ninth inning. Jonathan Papelbon was traded prior to the start of Tuesday's game. As a result, Giles will function as the Phillies' regular closer going forward and should be owned in all formats. He has the potential to be an elite closer, though he won't see many save opportunities for the Phillies, baseball's worst team by record. Having functioned as Papelbon's setup man for the bulk of the season, Giles owns a 1.81 ERA and a 54/20 K/BB ratio in 44 2/3 innings.
Jul 28 - 9:53 PM

Noah Syndergaard fired eight shutout innings -- and was perfect through the first six -- in Tuesday's win against the Padres.

Syndergaard lost his bid for a perfect game and a no-hitter when Will Venable led off the seventh inning with a single. It was one of only three hits he allowed on the evening while walking none and striking out nine. The right-hander has, in eight of 14 starts to begin his major league career, limited the opposition to one or zero runs. Syndergaard has an outstanding 2.70 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and a 91/20 K/BB ratio over 86 2/3 innings. He'll toe the slab at home against the Nationals next.
Jul 28 - 9:37 PM

Angels acquired OF David Murphy and cash considerations from the Indians in exchange for SS Eric Stamets.

Murphy should take over as the regular left fielder against right-handers, although he could also see some start in the designated hitter spot. He's batting .296/.344/.437 this season and should form a solid platoon with Shane Victorino.
