Felipe Paulino (elbow) will move his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Omaha Friday.

Paulino's recovery from Tommy John surgery has been stalled by back and shoulder issues, but he's back on track. The righty should join the Royals sometime next month. "I’m a little off mechanically, but that’s normal," Paulino said. "I haven’t pitched much in a long time, but I’m focused on working those mechanics. Everything — back, shoulder, elbow — feels good, so I’m happy with where I’m at right now."

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny on Wednesday wouldn't rule out the possibility of Yadier Molina (thumb) being activated from the disabled list Friday.

It goes along with previous report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold, who said a return over the weekend was possible. Molina will catch five innings Wednesday in his first rehab appearance with Double-A Springfield. It's not clear whether he might need additional rehab games, but the Cards would seem likely to have him catch a full game before being activated. Molina has been sidelined since July 10 with a torn ligament in his right thumb.

Andrew McCutchen is back in the Pirates' lineup Wednesday.

McCutchen exited Tuesday's contest after aggravating his rib fracture when he slammed into the outfield wall, but his removal was precautionary and he's back out there the next day. The reigning National League MVP has just seven hits in 28 at-bats since returning from the disabled list, but three of them have left the yard.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday that "it will be more like June" before Patrick Corbin (elbow) rejoins the rotation.

Corbin had Tommy John surgery in March, so projecting a June return is certainly conservative but also probably wise. "I think with Patrick it will be more like June for him," Gibson said. "He'd probably punch me if heard me saying that but you're really going to take your time and make sure he's ready to go. You're not going to expect him to come back and throw 220 innings. You kind of manage his rehab through innings and put him in a position to finish strong. … We're going to make sure we err on the side of very cautious." In addition to Corbin, the D'Backs also have David Hernandez, Matt Reynolds, Daniel Hudson and Bronson Arroyo working their way back from Tommy John surgery, though Hudson and Reynolds could be back late this season.

David Wright admitted on Tuesday that his left shoulder is not 100 percent.

Wright has denied in the past that he's still nursing the shoulder injury that originally cropped up in late June. However, after hitting coach Lamar Johnson said in an interview Tuesday that Wright is still ailing, the third baseman didn't deny it, but he also refused to blame it for his struggles. "Everybody has an opinion,'' Wright said. "Lamar sees me on a daily basis. Is the shoulder 100 percent? No. But that takes rest, and that's what the offseason's for. But is that the reason that I'm struggling the way I'm struggling? No. So, I think it's not a reasonable assessment as to why I'm playing poorly.'' Wright, who is also battling a minor neck ailment, is hitting .244/.306/.315 with just two homers over 44 games since the injury. It's hard to believe that he'll be a reliable fantasy option during the final month.

Matt Shoemaker yielded only two hits and no runs over seven innings in an 8-2 victory over the Marlins on Tuesday.

The pressure is on Shoemaker to prove he's a viable mid-rotation starter -- and playoff option -- with 13-game winner Garrett Richards lost for the season with a torn left patellar tendon. You wouldn't know it's fazing him. One day after Richards' ligament snapped, Shoemaker entered the seventh inning with a no-hitter and finished with 7 2/3 shutout frames against the Red Sox. Tonight he was nearly unhittable as well. Shoemaker, who went undrafted out of college and represents a huge victory for Los Angeles' scouting department, is 4-0 with a 0.77 ERA in his last four outings. The right-hander improves to 13-4 with a 3.33 ERA overall. Shoemaker hosts the A's in his next turn.

Buster Posey belted his 16th and 17th home runs of the season and accounted for all of San Francisco's offense in Tuesday's 3-0 victory over the Rockies.

This was his second career multi-homer game (the other coming in 2010). Posey knocked in RBI 63 and 64 while taking Rockies' starter Jorge De La Rosa deep in the sixth inning, and got his 65th with an emphatic eighth inning homer off Brooks Brown. Posey might have gotten JDLR at less than full strength -- the hurler suffered a thumb contusion while batting in the top half of the frame -- but he certainly won't give it back (De La Rosa was immediately removed once Posey crossed home plate). Posey finished the game 2-for-4. The catcher is slashing .288/.346/.457.

Madison Bumgarner hurled a one-hit shutout, striking out 13, in a 3-0 win versus the Rockies on Tuesday.

Justin Morneau broke up the perfect game with a leadoff double in the eighth inning down the right field line. It wasn't a bad pitch, either, as the veteran first baseman reached down for a pitch on the outer half and turned on it. No problem. Bumgarner calmly struck out the next four batters and got a couple harmless pop outs to finish things off. He came into tonight with a 5.86 ERA in his last six starts at AT&T Park. Bumgarner will attempt to carry over the mastery into Sunday's matchup against Milwaukee.

Zach Walters hit a game-winning two-run home run in the 10th inning to give the Indians an 8-6 win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Walters went deep off White Sox reliever Jake Petricka, his sixth home run since being recalled on August 10. Walter also singled, walked and scored in the game. It's been mostly boom-or-bust for the 24-year-old, who is hitting just .207/.266/.529 on the season despite the power display, but he should be starting in AL-only leagues for his ability to hit the long ball alone.

An ultrasound has revealed that the setback Anibal Sanchez (pectoral) suffered Monday was as a result of scar tissue breaking up.

It's good news all things considered, but Sanchez is essentially back to where he was when he first suffered the injury on August 8. "The ultrasound says I've got full motion, and I feel really good on that," Sanchez said. "Right now, I'm just like back at the first day [of the injury], heating and cooling the area." The Tigers are hopeful that the right-hander will make it back before the end of the season, but it's no guarantee. Kyle Lobstein will fill the fifth spot in the rotation for now.

Dustin Pedroia clubbed a two-run home run and hit a two-run single in six plate appearances in Tuesday's 11-inning win against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Pedroia kicked off the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning. As the game was tied up 4-4 in the 11th, Pedroia started off what turned out to be a seven-run frame with a two-run single. The second baseman has homered in consecutive games, giving him seven on the season along with 51 RBI and a .281/.341/.382 slash line.
Aug 26 - 11:49 PM

Alex Gordon hit a two-run walk-off home run to give the Royals a 2-1 victory over the Twins on Tuesday.

Gordon hit the two-run shot off Twins closer Glen Perkins. The outfielder finished 2-for-4 in the game, bringing his line up to .283/.356/.454 on the year. He's been especially effective in August, as Tuesday's was his seventh home run to go with 12 RBI and 16 runs scored this month.
