Joe Mauer (concussion) has been told by team doctors to "take it easy" until Tuesday.

That effectively ends any possibility of him returning for next week's series against the Royals. Chris Herrmann and Ryan Doumit will continue to handle the load behind the plate in his absence.

Hector Santiago ranged all over the map in taking a no-decision in Tuesday's 10-9 win over the Tigers, striking out nine while allowing six runs over 6 2/3 innings.

Strange, strange start. The nine strikeouts represented Santiago's second-best effort through 11 outings. The six runs tied the most he has allowed in a start this season. Five of those six runs came on the strength of home runs surrendered to Miguel Cabrera, Justin Upton and J.D. Martinez. The three homers allowed also tied a season-high for Santiago. He will look to move past this weirdness when he takes his 4.96 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 52/23 K/BB ratio (61 2/3 innings) into a road date with the Yankees next time out.

Nolan Arenado hit two of the Rockies' seven home runs, driving in four in a 17-4 beatdown of the Reds on Tuesday.

Arenado finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored as he and his teammates pounded out 19 hits, 14 going for extra bases. The home runs gave Arenado 16 on the year, tops in the National League, and his 43 RBI are also a league best. The 25-year-old is hitting .287/.358/.590 through 195 at-bats.
Jun 1 - 1:27 AM

Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-6 with two home runs and five RBI in a lopsided win over the Reds on Tuesday.

Blackmon led off the Rockies' half of the first inning with a solo shot, and he later hit a grand slam in the seventh. Blackmon is the owner of a modest nine-game hitting streak, with four home runs, 11 RBI and seven runs scored in that stretch. He's hitting a robust .301/.347/.510 atop the Rockies' lineup this season.
Jun 1 - 1:20 AM

Carlos Gonzalez homered in his fourth consecutive game Tuesday against the Reds.

CarGo had one of the team's seven home runs on the evening, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI in the contest. The outfielder has been one of the league's most dangerous hitters during a nine-game hitting streak that has included his homer binge, as he's 19-for-37 with five homers, nine RBI and 11 runs scored in that time. Gonzalez is hitting .312/.354/.533 with 10 homers, 22 RBI and 35 runs scored overall.
Jun 1 - 1:16 AM

Cameron Maybin was pulled from Tuesday's game against the Angels with a left hand injury.

Maybin appeared to be feeling some pain after fouling off a pitch in the top of the seventh inning. That at-bat finished with a strikeout and Andrew Romine took over in center field in the bottom of the seventh. Maybin finished the night 1-for-3 with a single.
Jun 1 - 1:03 AM

Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored as the Royals slugged their way past the Rays 10-5 on Tuesday.

Cain hit a two-run homer off Rays starter Drew Smyly in the first inning and added a two-run single in the fourth. The multi-hit game was his 13th in the month of May, a month he is surely sad to see end. Cain batted .351 with six homers, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored in the month, giving him eight home runs, 33 RBI and 28 runs scored to go with a .295/.348/.456 line overall.

Brewers activated LHP Will Smith from the 15-day disabled list.

Smith will join the Milwaukee bullpen on Wednesday after missing the first two months of the season with a torn LCL in his right knee. He was in a battle for closer duties with Jeremy Jeffress leading into spring training and that makes him a worthy stash in deep fantasy leagues, though Jeffress has pitched very well. Smith allowed just a hit and no walks while striking out five during his four-inning minor league rehab assignment.
Jun 1 - 12:22 AM

Matt Carpenter feasted on Brewers pitching again Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with a double, two triples, two RBI and four runs scored in the Cardinals' 10-3 drubbing.

All Carpenter has done the past two days is go 8-for-10 with three doubles, two triples, two RBI and seven runs scored. The blistering two games have vaulted him to fifth in the National League in runs scored (36) and eighth in the league in RBI (35). The 30-year-old is hitting .272/.385/.543 on the year.

Julio Urias could start Thursday at Wrigley Field.

That would be Kenta Maeda's turn, and Maeda is currently questionable with a swollen right hand. Urias hasn't pitched since his MLB debut last Friday night against the Mets, so he's available. But the Braves at home this weekend would obviously be a much safer matchup than the Cubs for real-life and fantasy purposes. Urias was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday night with Alex Wood (elbow) landing on the disabled list.

Daniel Murphy singled and ripped a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Phillies.

Another day, another big night for Murphy, who evidently hasn't been told that the 2015 postseason is over. The second baseman put the Nationals ahead with a solo blast off of Aaron Nola in the sixth inning and that proved to be the winning run. Murphy finishes the first two months of the season with an improbable .397/.428/.634 batting line.
May 31 - 11:35 PM

Corey Seager went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Cubs.

Seager had a couple hits and a run scored before launching a three-run shot in the ninth to extend the Dodgers' lead. The homer was his ninth of the season, giving him 27 RBI. Seager has largely been as advertised in his rookie year, batting .278/.333/.474 while batting near the top of the Dodgers' lineup on a daily basis.
