FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that Kendrys Morales has been claimed on waivers by an unknown team.

If a trade is going to happen, it will have to be this week. Morales has posted a promising .284/.340/.449 batting line with 17 home runs and 67 RBI in 124 games this season for Seattle. The Mariners could have moved him at the July 31 non-waiver deadline and decided against it but perhaps they feel differently about the situation now. Morales, 30, can become a free agent this winter.

Astros activated RHP Lance McCullers from the 10-day disabled list.

McCullers is back after missing a little over two weeks with a lower back injury. He'll draw the start Saturday against the division-rival Mariners. McCullers has been a stud this year, going 6-1 with a 2.58 ERA over 13 starts. Opponents have hit .207 against him during that span with 89 strikeouts in 280 at-bats.

Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Portland on Thursday.

Rodriguez is expected to throw about 75-80 pitches. He could be activated after only one start, though it's not a given. Rodriguez logged 68 pitches during a simulated game on Saturday. The Red Sox have used a variety of starters in his absence including Brian Johnson, Hector Velazquez and now Doug Fister.
Jun 24 - 4:58 PM

Yadier Molina (knee) is not in the Cardinals' lineup Saturday against the Pirates.

Molina was listed in the Cardinals' original starting nine but was scratched about an hour later. He's still dealing with knee soreness stemming from a foul ball that struck him behind the plate Thursday against the Phillies. Eric Fryer will handle the catching duties while batting eighth Saturday against Pirates hurler Gerrit Cole.
Jun 24 - 4:52 PM

Austin Bibens-Dirkx was outstanding in Saturday's victory over the Yankees, surrendering just one run on five hits over seven strong innings.

The right-hander punched out three and issued one free pass on the afternoon. The only blemish on his day was a solo homer by Aaron Judge in the sixth inning. He has been incredibly inconsistent this season, but has shown flashes of brilliance while posting a 3.68 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He'll look to replicate this fine effort when he does battle against the White Sox in Chicago on Friday.
Jun 24 - 4:17 PM

Athletics recalled SS Franklin Barreto from Triple-A Nashville.

The club's top prospect, the 21-year-old Barreto was hitting .281/.326/.428 with eight homers, 32 RBI and four stolen bases at Triple-A. He'll function as the team's primary shortstop until Marcus Semien is ready to return from the disabled list.
Jun 24 - 11:26 AM

Masahiro Tanaka fired eight scoreless frames in a no-decision against the Rangers on Friday.

Tanaka was on point, allowing just three hits while striking out nine and walking a pair. He threw first-pitch strikes to 26 out of the 27 batters he faced. It was his longest outing since his shutout against the Red Sox back on April 27. Fantasy owners will probably want to see back-to-back strong outings before trusting Tanaka again, but an effort like this one shows why folks should keep the faith.
Jun 24 - 1:38 AM

Yankees designated first baseman Chris Carter for assignment.

So much for the 2016 NL home run champ. Carter hit just .204 with eight homers and 23 RBI in 167 at-bats, but the Yankees probably would have stuck with him longer if not for his poor defense at first base. Now they'll go to Tyler Austin, a player with a similar profile but one who has been red-hot in the minors.
Jun 24 - 1:26 AM

Rays designated C Derek Norris for assignment.

It's a tough break for the veteran backstop who went 3-for-3 with a homer run and three runs scored in Friday's lopsided victory, but Wilson Ramos is set to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday. Norris shouldn't be out of work for long as several clubs could use an offensive upgrade behind the plate.
Jun 23 - 11:29 PM

Brian Goodwin went 3-for-4, walked twice and blasted a pair of home runs on Friday, leading the Nationals to victory over the Reds.

Goodwin got the Nats on the board with a solo shot off of Luis Castillo in the first inning. He added another solo blast in the seventh off of Wandy Peralta that pulled the Nationals even at 5-5 and would eventually force extra innings. Goodwin also delivered a two-out single in the 10th inning that advanced Trea Turner to third base, setting the stage for Bryce Harper's walkoff winner. Goodwin is hitting .265/.326/.578 with six homers and 15 RBI in his first 92 plate appearances with the Nationals.
Jun 23 - 11:21 PM

Jose Urena was outstanding in Friday's victory over the Cubs, scattering five hits over six shutout innings.

The right-hander walked three and struck out three on the night. He has been great through 14 starts for the Fish, compiling a 6-2 record, 3.33 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 44/27 K/BB ratio across 70 1/3 innings. He'll look to replicate this fine performance when he does battle against the Mets on Thursday.
Jun 23 - 10:03 PM

Howie Kendrick was scratched from the Phillies' lineup on Friday due to hamstring tightness.

The veteran utilityman is considered day-to-day. Andres Blanco is starting at second base for the Phillies against Patrick Corbin and the Diamondbacks.
