Matt Harvey underwent an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Monday morning in New York.

It's not yet clear which part of his body required the scan. Harvey has pitched 178 1/3 innings this season for the Mets. The 24-year-old topped out at 169 1/3 innings last season between the minors and majors.

Wilmer Flores had a career night, going 3-for-4 with a double, a pair of home runs, and six runs batted in as the Mets trounced the Marlins on Tuesday.

Flores tied the game at 1-1 with a fourth-inning double, then kept adding on with a three-run home run in the fifth and a two-run blast in the seventh, both off of Brad Penny. Flores entered the night with four home runs in 229 plate appearances, so it was certainly an uncharacteristically powerful performance. Along with six homers, Flores has knocked in 28 runs and posted a .245/.280/.386 slash line.

Tanner Roark hurled seven shutout innings against the Braves on Tuesday as the Nationals clinched the NL East division.

The slumping Braves couldn't get anything going against Roark, as the right-hander scattered five hits -- all singles -- while striking out four and walking none. The Nationals, at 87-63, are the first team in baseball to clinch their division. Roark will go into two weeks of meaningless baseball with a 2.85 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 137/39 K/BB ratio. He'll start next against the Marlins on the road on Sunday.

The Marlins have not ruled out Giancarlo Stanton's (face) return this season.

Stanton suffered multiple facial fractures and lacerations requiring more than 20 stitches, as well as losing multiple teeth, after being hit in the face by a Mike Fiers pitch last Thursday. He underwent a number of checkups in Miami on Tuesday, and the results of those exams will determine whether the outfielder has an outside shot of making it back this season. Ultimately, it remains a longshot, but the Marlins aren't shutting the door yet. "I'm sure as much as anything, he wants to get some answers and know if it's a reality for him going forward," manager Mike Redmond said. "His mindset is he wants to come back and play. Ours is, absolutely, if it can happen."

Hanley Ramirez was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to a right elbow strain.

It's not clear how the ailment popped up or how long he might be sidelined, but the Dodgers should provide more on his status later Tuesday. Justin Turner took Ramirez's spot at shortstop.

Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) could rejoin the Padres' bullpen on Friday.

Benoit threw a bullpen session Sunday with no issues and will throw another 'pen session Wednesday. If that goes well, he'll be cleared to return to action. It remains to be seen whether the reliever will immediately regain his closer job, but he certainly needs to be owned in fantasy leagues.

Matt Shoemaker has been diagnosed with a "very mild" left oblique strain.

Shoemaker had to exit Monday's outing with the injury. The Angels are calling him day-to-day, with the right-hander saying he's "very optimistic" about being ready for the postseason. Still, he will miss at least one start, with one late-season tune-up before the playoffs probably representing the best-case scenario.
Sep 16 - 7:06 PM

Mat Latos (elbow) played catch with no issues on Tuesday.

It's the first time he's thrown since he was scratched from Friday's start with a bone bruise in his right elbow. Reds manager Bryan Price indicated over the weekend that Latos is unlikely to return this season, and that's probably still the case given how little time is left. Still, it seems like the door hasn't been shut yet.
Sep 16 - 6:54 PM

Joey Votto (quad) took batting practice Tuesday.

It's the first time he's done so since landing on the disabled list in early July with a distal left quad strain. Votto has upped his workouts recently and is with the Reds on the road, so it appears that a return before the end of the season is still a possibility. Even if he does come back, however, he'll likely get in only a handful of games.
Sep 16 - 6:33 PM

Angel Pagan (back) is not in the Giants' lineup Tuesday.

Manager Bruce Bochy said after Monday's game that he expected Pagan to be ready to go Tuesday, but obviously that's not the case. Consider Pagan day-to-day. Juan Perez is getting another start in center field Tuesday.
Sep 16 - 6:04 PM

Shin-Soo Choo is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday on his left ankle.

Choo needs the procedure to repair cartilage damage and will be shut down from running for 6-8 weeks. He also had surgery in late August for bone spurs in his left elbow. It was a miserable 2014 for the 32-year-old outfielder, who batted just .242/.340/.374 with 13 home runs and four stolen bases in 123 games. He still has six years and $116 million remaining on his contract with the Rangers.
Sep 16 - 5:43 PM

Josh Hamilton (shoulder) is back in the Angels' lineup on Tuesday night against the Mariners.

Hamilton missed 10 games with a right shoulder injury. He will DH and bat sixth in his return.
