Danny Duffy will be called up to start for the Royals on Wednesday evening against the Twins.

He's taking over for Wade Davis, who was officially demoted to long-relief duty on Tuesday evening. Duffy has posted a 4.04 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 87/30 K/BB ratio in 69 innings this year in the Royals' minor league system. He's unlikely to be a reliable fantasy streamer.

Nelson Cruz went 3-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run as the Mariners narrowly escaped with a win against the Rockies on Monday.

Cruz went back-to-back with Kyle Seager in the second inning, extending the Mariners' lead to 6-1. It's his 30th homer of the year, marking only the third time he's crossed the 30-homer threshold in 11 big league seasons. (He's hit 29 twice, though.) Cruz has also knocked in 66 runs while hitting .321/.385/.590.

Grady Sizemore ripped a game-tying solo home run, aiding in a comeback win over the White Sox on Monday.

Sizemore entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and doubled, then later scored. The next inning, he slugged a game-tying solo home run off of lefty reliever Zach Duke. Aside from a few productive games in early July shortly after joining the Rays, Sizemore hasn't done much at the plate, batting .241/.250/.448 with three home runs and eight RBI.

The Astros will option Lance McCullers to the minors after he lasted just one-third of an innings in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

The club is giving him some rest, as he might not do any throwing while in the minors. McCullers hadn't shown any signs before Monday that his career-high workload might be getting to him, as he posted a 3.13 ERA in July and tossed seven frames of one-run ball in his previous outing. He'll be eligible to rejoin the rotation in 10 days and could be back at that time. Dan Straily will take McCullers' spot in the rotation.
Aug 3 - 11:49 PM

Jason Castro went 2-for-4 with a double and a grand slam in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

Castro unloaded the bases with a four-bagger in the fourth inning against Colby Lewis, bringing the Astros back into the game at 11-7. The catcher has hit safely in seven consecutive games and hit home runs in three of his last four contests. Castro's surge has brought his modest batting line up to .225/.289/.406 with 10 home runs and 29 RBI.

Adrian Beltre hit for the cycle, going 4-for-5 as the Rangers fended off the Astros on Monday.

Beltre achieved the cycle in his first four at-bats. He hit a two-run triple and later scored as part of a six-run first inning. Then he doubled in the second inning, singled and scored in the third, and drilled a solo home run in the fifth to complete the cycle. It's the third time in his career he's hit for the cycle. Beltre's OPS is back above .700 for the first time since the end of May. He's hitting .270/.312/.417 with nine home runs and 30 RBI.

An MRI has revealed that Andrelton Simmons has a bone bruise in his right thumb.

Simmons suffered the injury when he tried to make a diving catch during Saturday's game. The shortstop was feeling much better on Monday and it doesn't appear at this point that the disabled list is under consideration.
Aug 3 - 11:43 PM

Justin Upton left Monday's game against the Brewers with a bruised right thumb.

It had looked like Upton was pulled Monday simply to get him some rest with such a big lead, but apparently he's dealing with a big of a thumb issue. The Padres are calling him day-to-day for the time being, but he would figure to miss at least a game or two.
Aug 3 - 11:40 PM

Yangervis Solarte hit two home runs, knocked in four runs, and drew a walk in five plate appearances in Monday's win over the Brewers.

Solarte put the Padres on the board early with a first-inning solo home run against Wily Peralta. He added a three-run home run to cap off a six-run seventh inning. The third baseman is on a nine-game hitting streak, the most recent four of which have included multiple hits. Solarte owns a productive .266/.319/.418 batting line with seven home runs and 40 RBI on the year.
Aug 3 - 11:30 PM

Adonis Garcia sent the Braves home happy with a walk-off two-run home run in the 12th inning against the Giants on Monday.

The Braves had fallen behind 8-7 in the top half of the frame, but Garcia played hero when he drilled a two-run shot to right-center against Ryan Vogelsong. He finished 2-for-6 on the night with a double along with the homer. In 11 games in the majors this season, he has nine hits in 40 plate appearances. Six of those nine hits are extra-base hits (three doubles, three homers).
Aug 3 - 11:14 PM

Yoenis Cespedes plated four runs, doubling three times in five at-bats on Monday as the Mets routed the Nationals.

Cespedes had only one hit in eight plate appearances since joining the Mets, but broke out on Monday. He doubled in a pair of runs in the fifth inning and later scored, then added another two-run two-bagger in the sixth before coming home on a wild pitch. The Mets are now in first place ahead of the Nationals and Cespedes should provide plenty more offense for them down the stretch.
Aug 3 - 10:17 PM

Michael Conforto's first major league home run was a three-run home run that gave the Mets a lead they wouldn't relinquish on Monday versus the Marlins.

The 22-year-old rookie was batting .211 (4-for-19) in his first six big league games entering Monday. With a pair of ducks on the pond, Conforto deposited a Tom Koehler offering over the fence in right field at Marlins Park to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. He finished 2-for-4.
