Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Josh Willingham has been claimed off waivers.

The team that claimed him is unknown at this point. The Twins can now try to work out a trade or opt to pull Willingham back. The 34-year-old outfielder is batting .215/.347/.391 with 12 home runs and 45 RBI in 89 games played this season for Minnesota.

Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets don't expect to trade Bartolo Colon prior to Thursday's deadline.

Puma says the Mets aren't willing to eat any of the $13 million owed to Colon, which conflicts with what Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reported last week (he said they'd be willing to eat $2 million). CBS Sports' Jon Heyman noted Tuesday that there "doesn't appear to be a great market" for Colon. The Royals, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Pirates and Braves have been connected to the righty.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin has ruled Coco Crisp (neck) out through Friday.

Crisp will receive treatment on his ailing neck when the A's return home Friday and will not play that night. It's totally up in the air at this point as to when he'll rejoin the lineup, but Oakland is optimistic that he'll avoid a stint on the disabled list.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that there is a "very good chance" the Red Sox trade John Lackey in addition to Jon Lester.

The Red Sox have a $500,000 club option on Lackey for 2015 that's as a result of his 2012 Tommy John surgery, so while he might not bring as much as Lester, you can understand why he's sought after. The righty boasts a 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 116/32 K/BB ratio over 137 1/3 innings this season. Rosenthal says the Indians and Marlins are interested in Lackey. The Royals have previously been reported to have interest.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Dodgers are interested in Joaquin Benoit, but the Padres "would prefer not to trade him within division, if they trade him at all."

It's a little silly, given that San Diego is unlikely to contend before Benoit's contract expires. The 37-year-old has taken over as closer for the Padres following the trade of Huston Street and is under contract for $8 million next season and has an $8 million vesting option for 2016.

Jayson Werth is back in the Nationals' lineup Wednesday.

Werth didn't start Tuesday after exiting Monday's contest with a sprained ankle, but he was able to pinch-hit and is now ready to re-enter the lineup. The outfielder sports a .283/.375/.444 batting line with 12 homers and 58 RBI over 101 games this season.
Jul 30 - 10:17 AM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles are interested in the Astros' Dallas Keuchel and Jarred Cosart.

The O's don't want to give up one of their better pitching prospects for a rental like Jon Lester and instead are focused more on players that they'd control longer. Both Keuchel and Cosart have yet to reach arbitration, so they'd fit the bill. The Orioles have also dealt with the Astros in the past, having acquire Bud Norris at the deadline last season.

Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox have told teams that it will require "at least two elite-level prospects" to acquire Jon Lester.

It's a hefty price to pay for a two-month rental, but you can't blame the Red Sox for asking for that haul, especially when it looks like David Price might not be dealt. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman has listed the Dodgers and the Cardinals as the favorites for Lester, and Lauber has been told by industry insiders that the Dodgers are the "front-runner." The Pirates and A's are lurking in the background.
Jul 30 - 9:22 AM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers and Cardinals "appear to be the teams most aggressively competing" for Jon Lester and David Price.

Lester is virtually certain to get moved after being scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start, while Price's status is more up the air with the Rays back in the playoff hunt. Heyman writes that the Pirates "are still involved to some degree on the Lester front, but they are reluctant to surrender top prospects for a rental, seeming to place them third in the derby at the moment." The A's have also been mentioned as a potential suitor for Lester, but it appears that they may have fallen back from the pack, as well. It could be an interesting battle between the Dodgers and Cardinals for Lester and perhaps Price, as they both have the prospects to deal and the room to add payroll.

Matt Kemp went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in Tuesday's 8-4 win against the Braves.

Kemp's two-run homer to the opposite field in the second off Atlanta starter Aaron Harang put the Dodgers up 2-1, and his two-run shot to dead center in the seventh gave Los Angeles a 7-4 lead. He went 103 plate appearances between hitting his last homer on June 25. This was the seventh multi-homer game of Kemp's career. His slash line is up to .282/.347/.453 to go with 10 homers and 44 RBI.
Jul 30 - 2:04 AM

Yasiel Puig finished 4-for-5 and missed the cycle by a homer in Tuesday's 8-4 win against Atlanta.

You'll recall that Puig went 4-for-5 with three triples and a double on Friday. The center fielder ranks second in the National League in batting average (.318), slugging percentage (.545) and OPS (.949). He's on pace for 18 homers, 82 RBI and 89 runs.
Jul 30 - 2:02 AM

Francisco Liriano struck out 11 Giants, yielding one run over seven innings to earn his third victory on Tuesday.

In addition to his season-high punch out total, Liriano issued only one free pass and scattered four hits. The only one that really counted was Mike Morse's solo homer in the third, but Pittsburgh fortunately already held a 3-0 lead. Liriano was dominant from there on out, and Tony Watson and Mark Melancon pitched in an inning of shutout relief work apiece. The left-handed Liriano entered the game 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts since returning from the disabled list (oblique strain). Many owners jumped ship when he hit the shelf with a 1-6 record and 4.60 ERA last month. That just means there's room on board for the rest of us, who should make sure the former Twin is owned across formats. Liriano travels to Arizona on Sunday.
