Red Sox transferred RHP Alex Wilson to the 60-day disabled list.

He's been on the disabled list since July 9, so the designation doesn't do much to change his status. There is still no timetable for his return.

The talks between the Blue Jays and Steve Pearce "have gained traction," per ESPN's Buster Olney.

It sounds like an agreement may be imminent. Pearce struggled to stay healthy in 2016, but he slashed .288/.374/.492 across 302 plate appearances when he was on the field and the 33-year-old fared especially well against left-handed pitching. There are some defensive limitations, but he'd fit nicely on any American League roster.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears the Angels have checked in on free agent Justin Turner.

But the big question here is whether Anaheim has the money to make a competitive offer given that Turner is one of the most sought-after free agents out there and is known to be drawing interest from a number of high-budget teams. Heyman believes a reunion with the Dodgers remains the most likely scenario.

According to Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post, the Nationals made a four-year offer to Mark Melancon but it was worth less than $60 million.

Which could mean the Nats are out of the running, because Melancon reportedly has multiple four-year offers on the table in the $60 million range. And it doesn't sound like Washington is planning a pursuit of Aroldis Chapman or Kenley Jansen, who are both thought to be seeking something close to $100 million. Melancon, 31, posted a brilliant 1.64 ERA, 0.897 WHIP, and 65/12 K/BB ratio in 71 1/3 innings this summer between the Pirates and Nationals.
Dec 5 - 8:51 AM

Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post hears that Trea Turner is "all but untouchable."

There has been serious talk of the Nationals pursuing trades for Chris Sale and Andrew McCutchen, but it doesn't sound like Washington is going to be willing to part with Turner under any circumstance. Turner, 23, posted a ridiculous .342/.370/.567 batting line with 13 home runs and 33 stolen bases in 73 games this past season for the Nats. He's going to be a very popular guy in fantasy drafts next spring.
Dec 5 - 8:40 AM

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Blue Jays are talking to free agent Mitch Moreland.

Edwin Encarnacion remains the biggest focus for Toronto, but Moreland and Steve Pearce are also being considered as something like a Plan B. Moreland, 31, batted .233/.298/.422 with 22 home runs and 60 RBI in 147 games this past season for the Rangers while earning a Gold Glove at first base. He's also drawn interest from the Indians.
Dec 5 - 8:35 AM

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Indians have "stayed in touch" with Mike Napoli.

But there seems to be a very healthy market for the 35-year-old free agent slugger, who tallied 34 home runs and 101 RBI for Cleveland in 2016. He struggled down the stretch and into the postseason, but Napoli figures to find a multi-year deal this winter at a nice price point. Count the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rangers among his other current suitors.
Dec 5 - 8:09 AM

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Blue Jays are in talks with free agent Steve Pearce.

Pearce isn't very trustworthy as an everyday player, but he did slash .309/.411/.617 against left-handed pitchers in 2016. As a part-time first baseman, DH, and corner outfielder, he'd make sense for just about any American League club. Pearce did have surgery to repair flexor tendons in his right forearm in September, but it sounds like he will be ready for spring training.
Dec 5 - 7:59 AM

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Rangers are eyeing Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton.

Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer wrote last week that the Cincinnati front office "would have to be really, really motivated by an offer" to move the speedy Hamilton, but the Rangers have the kind of young talent to make something happen. Hamilton is a .248/.297/.334 career hitter over four major league seasons, but his speed and his defensive range in the outfield can be game-changing elements.
Dec 5 - 7:48 AM

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers are among the teams talking to the Padres about Yangervis Solarte.

Los Angeles is hoping to retain third baseman Justin Turner, but Turner is one of the biggest fish on a weak free agent market and is drawing heavy interest from many other clubs. Solarte would be a pretty good fallback plan, coming off a year in which he slashed 286/.341/.467 with 15 homers and 71 RBI in 443 plate appearances as the Padres' primary cleanup hitter. Solarte, 29, is under control via salary arbitration through 2019.
Dec 5 - 7:38 AM

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Nationals are trying to acquire both Andrew McCutchen and Chris Sale and believed that they have the necessary prospects to do so.

Many had speculated that it would be a one or the other scenario, as it's hard to imagine the Nationals can land both superstars without parting with Trea Turner. It looks increasingly likely that McCutchen will be traded this winter, and there's a good chance that it happens at the winter meetings. The Rangers are also known to be in the hunt for the star center fielder.
Dec 4 - 9:05 PM

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Marlins "seem intent on trying to beat some big-market teams for the services of one of the 'big three' closers."

The Marlins' interest in Kenley Jansen had been reported previously, but Heyman says that Miami is showing interest in Aroldis Chapman and Mark Melancon, as well, in their hopes of building a "super bullpen." Melancon's market has been heating up of late and the feeling had been that he was down to the Nationals and Giants, but it looks like the Marlins might sneak in there.
