Athletics recalled LHP Pedro Figueroa from Triple-A Sacramento.

The 27-year-old southpaw has struggled at the Triple-A level this season, posting a 4.10 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 49/33 K/BB ratio over 59 1/3 innings of work. He's likely to be used as a left-handed specialist or in long relief for the A's.

Making his MLB debut in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Brewers, Shohei Ohtani surrendered two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out two over 1 1/3 innings.

As far as Cactus League games go, this one had all the intrigue in the world. Ohtani -- who shined as both a pitcher and hitter in Japan -- signed on with the Angels in December. The 23-year-old turned in a mostly solid spring debut on Saturday, marred only by a Keon Broxton solo home run which he allowed in the second inning. Pitching debut now in the books, Ohtani will likely see his first work as a hitter in the coming days, though no exact date has been stamped on that. The Angels will be rolling with a six-man rotation this year, which will keep Ohtani on the same kind of schedule he kept in Japan.

Buster Posey is being held out of Cactus League action due to what manager Bruce Bochy said is a milk ankle tweak.

It sounds like the Giants are just being cautious with their star catcher. If the issue persists it's perhaps a cause for concern, but with the calendar still showing February there's no reason to get too worked up over it.

Nolan Arenado went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Reds.

Arenado struck for a solo home run with two outs in the third inning, his first dinger of spring training. Plenty more fireworks figure to be coming off his bat once the season revs up. The All-Star third baseman will be trying for his third 40-homer season in the last four campaigns. He fell just short of that mark in 2017, when he unloaded for 37 long balls. Arenado has driven in at least 130 runs in each of the last three seasons.

Jorge Alfaro went 2-for-2 and cracked a grand slam to lead his club over the Orioles 9-6 in Grapefruit League action Saturday.

The blast came off starter Dylan Bundy in the second inning. He hit .318/.360/.514 with five homers and 14 RBI in 29 games last year with the Phillies in his first extended major league action. The 24-year-old has big power but strikes out too often to expect a good batting average moving forward.

Dylan Bundy was knocked around for five earned runs in just two innings in a loss to the Phillies on Saturday.

All five runs came in the second frame, with the big blow being a grand slam off the bat of catcher Jorge Alfaro. Bundy struggled with his control, issuing three walks without a strikeout and throwing just 10 of 25 pitches for strikes. Hopefully this start just shook off the rust and he will perform better next time out. He went 13-9 with a 4.24 ERA in 28 starts last year.

Collin McHugh was strong in his spring debut, punching out five batters in two scoreless frames in a win over the Braves on Saturday.

He allowed one hit and one walk in the start. The 30-year-old missed the first half of the 2017 season with a right elbow impingement but returned to register a 5-2 record and 3.55 ERA in 12 starts. The Astros' offseason acquisition of Gerrit Cole likely bumped McHugh to the bullpen to start the season, although he has been mentioned in trade rumors.

J.T. Realmuto went 2-for-2 with a solo home run in a 3-2 win over the Nationals on Saturday.

He took veteran starter Edwin Jackson over the wall in the fourth inning. Last year he recorded a .278 batting average with 17 homers, 65 RBI and eight stolen bases in 579 plate appearances. He remains a top five option at catcher in fantasy leagues.

Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports that the Red Sox and J.D. Martinez are working through a medical issue, though his immediate readiness to play is not in question.

There is expected to be more clarity on the situation on Saturday. It doesn't sound as though the deal is going to fall through, but there could be some change in the overall structure of the contract or the money involved. It sounds like the Red Sox are simply doing their due diligence and making sure that their own medical experts come to the same conclusions as the one's provided by Martinez and his camp.

Pirates signed LHP Kevin Siegrist to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Once considered one of the top left-handed setup men in the league, the 28-year-old hurler struggled to a 4.81 ERA in 39 1/3 innings during the 2017 campaign. He makes for a terrific low-risk signing for the Pirates as he has the potential to provide a major boost in the bullpen.

Matt Kemp went 2-for-2 with a three-run homer in the Dodgers’ 13-5 victory over the White Sox to begin Cactus League play.

Welcome back, Matt Kemp. The Dodgers reacquired the veteran outfielder in a swap of bad contracts with the Braves during the offseason. Most assumed the Dodgers wouldn’t keep him around for long, but he’s in the mix for playing time in left field and is clearly motivated to get back on track after being plagued with leg issues in 2017. He looks noticeably slimmer. Enrique Hernandez, another part of the left field competition, also went deep on Friday.

Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports that the Red Sox' delayed introduction of J.D. Martinez could indicate a complication in his medical review.

Martinez's five-year, $110 million deal with the Red Sox was reported in the press on Monday but has still not been officially announced by the Red Sox. Drellich says an issue may have arisen in the team's medical-review process. He believes that even if this is true it is unlikely to nullify the agreement, although it could result in changes to the years or money involved. Red Sox manager Alex Cora couldn't say if Martinez was still in Fort Myers, where the Red Sox hold their spring training camp.
