Carlos Beltran (back) expects to return to the starting lineup Tuesday.

Beltran hasn't played since his back tightened up on him during Saturday's game. While the veteran outfielder still felt some soreness while swinging the bat Monday, he doesn't expect it to keep him out of action for long.

Jose Iglesias will undergo more tests after his ailing right middle finger swelled up on him overnight.

Iglesias was diagnosed with just a bruise on Thursday, but his finger feels worse a day later and that's obviously not a good sign. The Tigers should have more on the shortstop's status at some point over the weekend.
Sep 4 - 4:19 PM

CC Sabathia (knee) will be activated from the disabled to start on Wednesday versus the Orioles.

Sabathia threw a 60-pitch simulated game Friday and came out of it with no issues. The Yankees don't plan to remove anyone from the rotation, so it looks like they'll go with a six-man alignment down the stretch. Sabathia has missed the last couple weeks with an arthritic right knee.
Sep 4 - 4:18 PM

Billy Hamilton (shoulder) will take batting practice Friday.

It will be the first time he's done so since he landed on the disabled list in mid-August with a sprained capsule in his right shoulder. Reds manager Bryan Price said it's possible Hamilton could be ready for a rehab assignment before the minor league season ends. That suggests he's not far off from a return if he can progress without any setbacks.
Sep 4 - 4:12 PM

Matt Holliday (quad) began jogging on the outfield grass Friday.

He did so under the watchful eye of the Cardinals' team doctor. Holliday has been hitting for a while, but he still has a long way to go in his running program progression. He's hoping to rejoin the big club in a couple weeks, but the Cards will be extra careful after they brought him back too quickly the first time.
Sep 4 - 4:04 PM

Daniel Murphy (quad) is not in the Mets' lineup Friday.

Murphy left Wednesday's game with a strained left quad. The Mets are saying it's a minor ailment and are considering him day-to-day. Murphy was given a cortisone injection and will be unavailable off the bench Friday.
Sep 4 - 3:58 PM

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Mets plan to stick with their innings plan for Matt Harvey that will allow him to pitch through the playoffs.

Harvey's agent, Scott Boras, made waves when he told CBS Sports' Jon Heyman that he thinks the club should shut the righty down when he reaches 180 innings (he's at 166 1/3 frames now). But, while they plan to skip Harvey once more and will also use a six-man rotation this month, they have no plans to shut the right-hander down altogether.
Sep 4 - 3:40 PM

Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Ramirez hasn't played in over a week due to fatigue in his right shoulder. He remains day-to-day but there's been no indication of when he'll be back in there. Allen Craig is getting a start at first base Friday.
Sep 4 - 3:03 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that contract extension talks between the Astros and Dallas Keuchel's agent "will or have been" tabled until the offseason.

Keuchel revealed last month that the discussions were taking place, but it's not a surprise that the two sides have decided to hold off for now while they fight for a playoff spot. The left-hander will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and is arguably the front-runner for the American League Cy Young award, having put up a 2.24 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and a 173/42 K/BB ratio over 192 2/3 innings.
Sep 4 - 2:03 PM

Astros activated OF George Springer from the 15-day disabled list.

Springer got through five rehab games with Double-A Corpus Christi with no issues and is ready to go. He's been sidelined since early July with a fractured right wrist.
Sep 4 - 1:05 PM

Corey Kluber has been scratched from Friday's scheduled start due to a right hamstring strain.

It's not clear when Kluber was injured, but it could cost him an additional start after Friday. Josh Tomlin will move up a day to start Friday. The Indians are clinging to faint Wild Card hopes, so it's certainly rotten news for them.
Sep 4 - 12:07 PM

Yankees placed 1B Mark Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 27, with a right shin bone bruise.

The Yankees threw Teixeira's fantasy owners a bone here, as DL moves are rarely made in September. The transaction occurred because they wanted to bring back reliever Nick Rumbelow before his 10-day waiting period was up. Teixeira is getting around on crutches at the moment and is expected to miss at least a couple weeks.
