Yasiel Puig (knee) will not play on Tuesday.

Puig has dealt with some stiffness behind his right knee recently, and he aggravated the ailment on a slide during Monday's game. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but the Dodgers will play it safely with their young stud.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Rangers continue to be in touch with Edwin Encarnacion.

The Rangers apparently haven't given up hope on landing a deal with Encarnacion, but USA Today's Bob Nightengale has reported that the finances might not line up here. Stay tuned. The Indians have also been linked to Encarnacion, while Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins indicated earlier on Wednesday that the team's path to re-signing their veteran slugger is less than evident at this juncture. EE's market really hasn't developed yet. He'll get paid by somebody.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Royals "haven't felt overwhelmed by offers" for outfielder Jarrod Dyson.

Probably because the guy is a .260/.325/.353 career hitter in the major leagues and due to become a free agent next winter. Dyson plays great defense and has tremendous speed, but the Royals can't expect to get much talent in return. They might just hold on to Dyson, per Heyman, in the event a realistic trade partner can be found for Lorenzo Cain. Dyson was known to be drawing interest from the Orioles, Athletics, Rangers, and Cardinals.

Travis Wood's agent Darek Braunecker said his client is receiving interest from 10 teams.

That might sound like typical agent-speak, but Wood figures to do very well for himself in this market after posting a 2.95 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 61 innings of relief for the Cubs in 2016. He has experience as a starter and some teams might be viewing him as a rotation option for 2017, but a bullpen role is probably best.

Jayson Stark of ESPN reports that both the Yankees and Marlins have offered Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen five-year contracts.

Stark relays that the Dodgers are also keenly interested in both of these free agent closers, though the length of their potential offers aren't known at this juncture. The Yankees' interest in Chapman is well-documented, but Stark shines a light on the Marlins, writing that sources with knowledge of the team's thinking "describe them as being significantly more interested than previously believed." The Nationals are also in the mix for Chapman, with USA Today's Bob Nightengale passing along word earlier on Wednesday that the team is "firmly in the hunt."

Mariners acquired RHP Chris Heston from the Giants for a player to be named later.

Seattle will hope Heston can bounce back from a dismal, injury-riddled 2016 that saw him register a 4.54 ERA at Triple-A Sacramento and a 10.80 ERA in the major leagues. He did perform well in 2015, delivering a 3.95 ERA in 177 2/3 innings for San Francisco while whiffing 141 batters. Heston will compete for a spot in the Mariners' rotation next spring.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Rockies are still considering signing Mark Trumbo.

Colorado just inked Ian Desmond to a contract in the neighborhood of five years, $70 million, but that does not appear to be a block to the club making further moves in free agency. Rosenthal relays that should Colorado opt to sign Trumbo, they would likely play him at first base and trade an outfielder. The plugged-in FOX Sports analyst sees Carlos Gonzalez as a player who might move in a trade if the Trumbo domino falls to Coors Field.

Nationals acquired OF Adam Eaton from the White Sox for RHP Lucas Giolito, RHP Reynaldo Lopez, and RHP Dane Dunning.

Washington was determined to make a splash at this week's Winter Meetings, and this is a big one. Eaton was a 6.0 fWAR player for the White Sox in 2016, slashing .284/.362/.428 with 14 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 157 games while playing strong defense in right field. He won't rate as well in center with the Nationals, but it's a tremendous addition to the lineup and the 28-year-old is on a very team-friendly contract that can potentially run through 2021. That's why it took three of the best young starting pitching prospects in the game to acquire him.

White Sox acquired RHP Lucas Giolito, RHP Reynaldo Lopez, and RHP Dane Dunning from the Nationals for OF Adam Eaton.

Giolito's prospect stock has somewhat cratered over the last year, but he's still very much the centerpiece of this deal and represents a big-time upgrade to the White Sox farm system -- what might suddenly be considered the top farm system in baseball. Giolito struggled in his first taste of the majors in 2016 and figures to open the 2017 season in the minors, but we'll see him on the south side of Chicago soon enough. And the tremendous upside isn't gone yet. Lopez and Dunning are also top-flight young right-handers. It's another huge haul for White Sox GM Rick Hahn.
Dec 7 - 6:02 PM

According to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Yankees have expressed interest in free agent reliever Sergio Romo.

Shea says "several teams" have also made the call. Romo battled elbow problems in 2016 and only pitched 30 2/3 regular-season innings for the Giants, but he still managed a 2.64 ERA and boasts a career ERA of 2.58 with a career K/9 of 10.2. The veteran righty will turn 34 years old next March.
Dec 7 - 4:48 PM

ESPN's Buster Olney reports the Marlins have signed catcher A.J. Ellis to a one-year, $2.5 million deal.

Ellis will head to Miami to act as J.T. Realmuto's backup catcher. The veteran hit just .216/.301/.298 in 2016 between the Dodgers and Phillies, but his clubhouse rep is exceptional and he's had some decent seasons in the past.
Dec 7 - 4:28 PM

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that Tyson Ross' asking price is in the $9-11 million range.

And according to Grant, that may not include incentives. The Padres opted to non-tender Ross rather than give him a similar salary through arbitration, but some team might be willing to take a chance even as he's making his way back from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome. There's just not much out there in free agency.
