Cameron Maybin is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right wrist in the near future.

This news officially rules Maybin out for the season. The Padres announced Friday that he will play winter ball this offseason in an effort make up for lost developmental time, but it sounds like taking at-bats in December is a highly questionable proposition at this point. Maybin will be entering his age-27 season in 2014.

Felix Hernandez will start for the American League in Tuesday's All-Star Game at Target Field.

American League skipper John Farrell made the announcement Monday in Minneapolis. "King Felix" earned his 11th victory of the season last Friday against the A's and boasts a 2.12 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 154/25 K/BB ratio through 144 1/3 total innings this year. He'll be opposed on the National League side by Adam Wainwright.

Adam Wainwright has been named the National League starter for Tuesday night's All-Star Game.

There was a strong argument to be made for Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, but National League manager Mike Matheny will go with his own guy. Wainwright owns a sensational 1.83 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, and 115/27 K/BB ratio in 138 innings this season for the Cardinals. Felix Hernandez has been named the American League starter.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York confirms the Mets have made it known that Bartolo Colon is available.

Colon wrapped up the first half of the season with a win last Thursday against the Braves and heads into the All-Star break with a cool 3.99 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 89/17 K/BB ratio in 121 2/3 frames. The veteran innings-eater should draw quite a bit of interest as contending teams look to beef up the back end of their starting rotations. He's making $9 million this year and owed $11 million in 2015.

Taijuan Walker is scheduled to make another start for Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday in Reno.

Walker allowed just one run over five innings Saturday in Tacoma's defeat of the Giants' Triple-A team, but he struck out only one batter and needed 83 pitches to get through five frames -- which didn't sit well with Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon. "I guess I see things differently than most people," McClendon said Sunday. "I don't see that as a good outing. Five innings, 83 pitches and one strikeout, that's not a good outing to me. And I'm not trying to bash the kid." Walker was expected to rejoin the Mariners' rotation shortly after the All-Star break, but that's not a given now.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Royals have made Jonny Gomes a "potential target."

Kansas City is searching for a right-handed bat and Gomes, who will be a free agent this winter, should be one of the easier ones to get. He's batting just .234 with a .680 OPS in 67 total games this season for Boston, but the 33-year-old corner outfielder owns a career .266/.351/.461 slash line against left-handed pitching.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Angels are targeting Padres starter Ian Kennedy.

Anaheim has also been in talks with the still-under-construction San Diego front office about closer Huston Street. Kennedy, 29, has registered an exceptional 3.47 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 133/34 K/BB ratio across 124 1/3 innings (20 starts) this season for the Padres. According to the pitching metric xFIP, he ranks better this year than guys like Max Scherzer, Adam Wainwright, and Jeff Samardzija. Kennedy is arbitration-eligible through 2015, so the Friars will probably want a fairly substantial return package.

Chris Davis blasted a two-run homer on Sunday, powering the Orioles to a 3-1 victory over the Yankees in a rain-shortened five-inning game.

Davis connected on an opposite field two-run blast off Chase Whitley in the fourth inning, getting the O's on the board and proving to provide the margin of victory. He finished the night 1-for-2, finishing the first half of the season with a disappointing .199/.309/.391 line to go along with 15 long balls and 48 RBI.
Jul 14 - 12:25 AM

Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed two hits while striking out 10 over six shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Padres on Sunday.

Ryu bounced back from one of his worst starts of the year to turn in one of his best. The left-hander allowed just two singles without walking a batter, and his 10 strikeouts were a season high. Ryu moved to 10-5 with a 3.44 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 93/21 K/BB ratio over 104 2/3 innings, and he should continue to be one of the best starters in the National League in the second half.
Jul 13 - 11:21 PM

Brian Dozier went 3-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI in the Twins' 13-5 beatdown of the Rockies on Sunday.

Dozier led off the game with a ground-rule double, and he only got better from there. Dozier hit a solo home run in the eighth and added a three-run homer in the ninth for good measure. This season is shaping up to be Dozier's coming out party -- the second baseman has 18 home runs, 16 stolen bases, 45 RBI and an American League-best 69 runs scored heading into the break.
Jul 13 - 10:49 PM

Buster Posey hit one of the Giants' two grand slams on the day, propelling the Giants to an 8-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

The homer was Posey's 10th of the season and his first since June 14. The catcher is having a down year by his standards, batting .275/.331/.422 with 46 RBI. He's particularly struggled in July, so perhaps the All-Star break comes at a good time for the 27-year-old.
Jul 13 - 9:57 PM

Sonny Gray allowed one unearned run over 7 2/3 innings in the Athletics' 4-1 victory over the Mariners on Sunday.

Gray gave up six hits and walked two, striking out five. Gray has now won four straight to run his record to 10-3. The right-hander is emerging as a front-of-the-rotation pitcher this season, owning a 2.79 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 19 starts. He should continue to pitch well in the season's second half.
