White Sox outrighted RHP Jhan Marinez to Triple-A Charlotte.

This was done simply to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. The 25-year-old has really struggled at Charlotte this season, posting a 6.11 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 26/16 K/BB ratio over 28 innings of work. He'll continue to serve as organizational depth.

Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) will make his 2018 debut Monday or Tuesday against the Athletics.

Eovaldi got knocked around in his last rehab start for Triple-A Durham (4 IP, 10 H, 8 ER Wednesday at Gwinnett) but appears to finally be healthy following a long recovery from Tommy John surgery. The hard-throwing right-hander last pitched in the majors in 2016, going 9-8 with a 4.76 ERA over 24 appearances including 21 starts for the Yankees.

Dustin Pedroia (knee) will be activated for Friday's game against the Braves.

The 34-year-old is back after missing Boston's first 60 games while recovering from offseason knee surgery. Pedroia might be eased in at first, but it shouldn't take long for him to regain his post as the everyday second baseman. Eduardo Nunez, who had been filling in at second base, will shift to a utility role. Pedroia collected just one hit in 14 at-bats during his rehab assignment for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Travis Shaw is not in the Brewers' lineup Thursday against the Mets.

He's getting the night off against left-hander Steven Matz. Utility man Hernan Perez will fill in at third base and bat fifth. Shaw leads the Brewers in both home runs (12) and RBI (31) despite a sluggish .243 batting average.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the assault allegations against Roberto Osuna are of a "physical nature" and could result in a "significant" ban.

Osuna has denied that he did actual physical harm. His administrative leave was extended on Monday through May 28; the second time that his leave has been extended since his arrest for assault on May 8. Heyman mentions that previous cases for domestic violence without proof of physical abuse have received 15-game suspensions. If Heyman's sources are correct in the serious nature of the accusations, Osuna could be facing something closer to Aroldis Chapman's 30-game number, maybe more.

Twins activated 3B Miguel Sano from the 10-day disabled list.

Sano will be back in the Twins' starting lineup for Friday night's series opener against the Mariners after missing a little under four weeks with a left hamstring strain. He batted .375/.474/.750 with two home runs over five rehab games with Triple-A Rochester.
May 24 - 12:07 PM

Mark Trumbo (knee) is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt against the White Sox.

It makes back-to-back games that Trumbo will be out of the lineup because of the knee trouble. Baltimore manager Buck Showalter told reporters that if Trumbo doesn't show improvement on Friday, he'll be reevaluated for a possible DL stint. Craig Gentry will play right field and hit seventh against Lucas Giolito.
May 24 - 12:03 PM

Major League Baseball suspended C Welington Castillo for 80 games for performance-enhancing drug use.

Castillo was popped for taking the hormone Erythropoietin, a popular PED in the cycling world. He'll be out until late August and will not be eligible to participate in the 2018 postseason, not that that matters for any White Sox player this year. The 31-year-old catching was slashing .267/.309/466 with six home runs and 15 RBI through 33 games for Chicago. Omar Narvaez will presumably see the large share of the starts behind the plate moving forward. He carries no mixed-league fantasy upside.
May 24 - 11:19 AM

Joey Votto is getting the day off Thursday.

Votto has dealt with some back issues this month and will take a day for treatment and rest. Brandon Dixon is starting at first base and batting seventh on Thursday afternoon against Pirates righty Ivan Nova.
May 24 - 11:02 AM

Shohei Ohtani is no longer scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Yankees.

Ohtani would have been lined up to face countrymate Masahiro Tanaka in the series finale at Yankee Stadium. This decision was made for "workload management" purposes, per Angels manager Mike Scioscia. It's unclear when Ohtani will pitch next, though he is available to continue hitting.
May 24 - 10:58 AM

Francisco Cervelli (hand, finger) is out of the Pirates' starting lineup Thursday versus the Reds.

Cervelli left Wednesday night's game in the 12th inning due to discomfort in his right hand and finger. This has been a lingering issue for the veteran catcher, but it doesn't sound overly serious. Elias Diaz is starting behind the plate and batting seventh Thursday afternoon against Cincinnati right-hander Luis Castillo.
May 24 - 9:41 AM

Adam Plutko tossed six innings of two-hit, shutout baseball to beat the Cubs 1-0 on Wednesday.

He outdueled Cubs ace Jon Lester in impressive fashion while making his second major league start. He had a no-hitter going through six innings, then allowed hits to the first two batters of the seventh before being relieved. He struck out four and walked four in the gem outing. He was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Josh Tomlin's spot in the rotation. He made a spot start earlier this year. He had a 2.25 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A and will likely be a hot pickup in fantasy leagues, although he doesn't have the strikeout ability needed to create a ton of fantasy value.
