Ryan Zimmerman finished 2-for-5 with three RBI in the Nationals' win over the Marlins on Saturday.

Zimmerman hit a two-run shot in the top of the first inning to set the tone for the Nationals' easy victory. He then launched a solo blast in the top of the third. It was his first multi-homer game of the year.

Neil Walker (back) is out of the Mets' lineup again Tuesday against the Marlins.

Make that three starts in a row Walker has been absent due to a nagging back injury. It's unclear when he'll be ready to return. Wilmer Flores will fill in at second base and bat sixth on Tuesday.
Aug 30 - 3:15 PM

Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) has returned to the Mets' lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.

Cabrera was limited to pinch-hitting duties on Monday after leaving Sunday's game with left knee soreness, but it didn't keep him down for long. He'll bat second against Tom Koehler.
Aug 30 - 3:12 PM

Colby Rasmus (ear) will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

The Astros have yet to make an official announcement, but right-hander Brad Peacock is expected to be sent to Triple-A to clear a spot on the active roster. Rasmus has been sidelined since August 4 with a cyst in his right ear which required surgery.

X-rays came back negative on Corey Seager's left wrist.

Seager was hit by a pitch twice on Monday -- including off his wrist in the seventh inning -- but he stayed in the game. Fortunately, tests ruled out anything serious, but he's expected to get the day off on Tuesday at the very least.
Aug 30 - 12:36 AM

Carlos Beltran went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Monday's win over the Mariners.

He was Hisashi Iwakuma's nemesis in this one, taking him deep with a solo shot in the first inning and getting to him with an RBI double in the third. Beltran also added an infield single off of reliever Arquimedes Caminero. The veteran slugger went through a 32 at-bat hitless streak but has now picked up five base knocks in his last eight at-bats.
Aug 30 - 12:02 AM

Carlos Martinez notched a career-high 13 strikeouts across six innings of one-run ball in Monday's 6-5 victory over the Brewers.

Martinez tied his previous career high last month with 11 punchouts in an outing that also came against the Brewers. Unfortunately, he didn't get credited with a win in this one, as the Cardinals' bullpen blew a late lead. Still, it was a third straight brilliant effort from Martinez, who has yielded only one run in each of his last three outings while boasting a 25/6 K/BB ratio over 21 innings. He'll try to keep it rolling on Sunday in Cincinnati.
Aug 29 - 11:51 PM

Kolten Wong went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Monday's win over the Brewers.

Wong has been buried on the bench of late, as this was just his eighth start of the month and first since August 19. He made it count, though, with only his third home run of the season to go along with his sixth stolen base. Wong probably earned another start Tuesday with his big night, but he'll likely remain mostly a bench player going forward with Jedd Gyorko's hot bat and Aledmys Diaz (thumb) on his way back.
Aug 29 - 11:33 PM

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said that Cameron Maybin will go for an MRI on his left thumb on Tuesday.

Maybin exited Monday's game with what was termed as a bruised left thumb. The Tigers are calling him day-to-day after X-rays came back negative, but obviously there's reason for concern given that he recently had a stint on the disabled list with the same thumb. More should be known on his status on Tuesday.

Yoenis Cespedes slugged a walk-off solo homer off Nick Wittgren in the 10th inning on Monday to lead the Mets to a 2-1 victory over the Marlins.

And there was no doubt about it from the moment it left his bat. It was his second career walk-off homer and his first since his debut season in the states in 2012. Cespedes was forced to sit out Sunday’s game in order to rest his quad, but he went 3-for-5 in his return to the lineup on Monday. The 30-year-old is batting .299/.370/.579 with 27 homers and 68 RBI through 103 games this season. The Mets will have to monitor the quad moving forward, but he’s capable of carrying the team down the stretch.
Aug 29 - 11:17 PM

Jarrod Saltalamacchia slugged a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning of Monday's win over the White Sox.

It was a back-and-forth affair between the two division rivals, but Salty's dinger off of tough reliever Nate Jones put the Tigers up for good. He plays second fiddle to James McCann and is batting just .192/.306/.404 overall this season, but Saltalamacchia has pretty much given the Tigers what they were hoping for with 12 home runs.
Aug 29 - 11:08 PM

Mookie Betts smacked his 30th home run of the season in Monday's win over the Rays.

Betts' dinger to lead off the bottom of the second inning got the scoring going, and he added an RBI double in the fifth. The young outfielder entered the season with 23 homers over 867 plate appearances and has reached the 30-homer plateau in 2016 in 596 plate appearances. Betts is also just four RBI short of 100.
