Yankees acquired SS Brendan Ryan from the Mariners for a player to be named later.

The Yanks decided they needed some more shortstop depth with Derek Jeter's (ankle) status in limbo. He will not be eligible for the postseason roster. Ryan has batted just .193/.268/.273 over the last two seasons but is one of the best fielding shortstops in the game.

Nationals manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday that Wilson Ramos was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee.

Absolutely brutal news all the way around. Ramos previously tore the ACL and MCL in the very same knee back in 2012. It's rough timing, not only with the playoffs days away, but also with him on the verge of hitting free agency. The 29-year-old was poised for a big payday after hitting .307/.354/.496 with 22 homers and 80 RBI over 131 games this season.

Indians president Chris Antonetti said on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM on Tuesday that Corey Kluber (groin) will undergo an MRI.

Kluber was forced to make an early exit from Monday's start against the Tigers due to right groin tightness, but Antonetti is optimistic that it's nothing serious. We should know for sure soon. The Indians' rotation has already taken multiple hits down the stretch, so obviously it would be a tremendous blow if he also needs to miss some time.
Sep 27 - 3:10 PM

Kris Bryant is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Pirates.

Addison Russell, Jason Heyward, and Willson Contreras are also getting some rest for the Cubs as they look for their 101st victory of the season. Tommy La Stella will start at third base while Javier Baez will play second. Chris Coghlan and Ben Zobrist are in the corner outfield spots and Miguel Montero is behind the plate.
Sep 27 - 3:07 PM

Matt Kemp is not in Tuesday's lineup versus the Phillies.

He's presumably getting a day of rest. Mallex Smith will make the start in left field and hit eighth against right-hander Jerad Eickhoff.
Sep 27 - 3:00 PM

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants are "very close" to acquiring infielder Gordon Beckham from the Braves.

Eduardo Nunez is out with a hamstring injury, so Beckham would provide some infield depth this week. He would not be eligible for the postseason. Beckham, 30, is batting just .217/.300/.354 over 273 plate appearances this season and will hit free agency this winter.
Sep 27 - 2:50 PM

Kenta Maeda has been moved up to start Tuesday against the Padres.

He'll swap spots with rookie Jose De Leon, who will be pushed back to Wednesday. Maeda allowed two runs (one earned) over five innings in his most recent start last Wednesday against the Giants and owns a 3.20 ERA over 30 starts in his first year in MLB.

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins and Martin Prado have agreed to a three-year, $40 million extension.

Prado was previously due to hit a weak free agent market this winter, but he's now locked up through his age-35 season in 2019. Acquired from the Yankees in December of 2014, Prado has hit .297/.350/.405 over two seasons with Miami and has emerged as a clubhouse leader. The Marlins made it a top priority to keep him in the fold and they were successful.

Jered Weaver (back) plans to start as scheduled Sunday against the Astros.

Weaver was forced to leave Monday's start against the Athletics after five scoreless innings due to lower back tightness, but it won't stop him from making perhaps his final start with the Angels. The veteran right-hander thinks he can pitch next season, but he has yet to make a final decision about his future. Weaver has an ugly 5.06 ERA in 31 starts this season.
Sep 27 - 10:49 AM

Adam Duvall went 4-for-6 with a pair of homers and five RBI in Monday's blowout victory over the Cardinals.

He homered in the first inning, had an RBI single in the fourth, another homer in the fifth and another single in the seventh. The two-homer night was Duvall's third of the season and pushed his home run total for the year to 33, which trails only Nolan Arenado, Kris Bryant and Chris Carter in the National League. He also reached the 100-RBI mark Monday.
Sep 27 - 12:04 AM

Jean Segura clubbed a pair of home runs and drove in three in Monday's blowout win over the Nationals.

Segura got the scoring starting for the D'Backs with a solo shot in the fourth and then added a two-run shot in the eighth. He also had a single on the night. A lot of things have gone wrong for Arizona this season, but Segura certainly hasn't been one of them. He's up to a career-high 19 home runs and is just four hits shy of a 200-hit campaign.
Sep 26 - 11:47 PM

Dee Gordon went 4-for-5 with his first home run of the season while also adding a stolen base in Monday's win over the Mets.

Gordon provided one of the most unforgettable moments of the season in this one. After an emotional pregame honoring their late teammate Jose Fernandez, Gordon stood in the right side of the batter's box for the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning as an ode to Fernandez. He then moved over to his regular left side and slugged a pitch out to right for his first dinger of the season. Gordon was bawling as he rounded the bases and was then greeted by his teammates in an incredibly moving moment. Justin Bour also had a big night for the fish, going 3-for-3 while falling a homer shy of the cycle.
