Adrian Gonzalez is out of the Dodgers' starting lineup on Thursday due to minor quad discomfort.

It was initially announced as a routine day off, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly cleared that up with the media before first pitch. Gonzalez is available to pinch-hit and play defense, and should return to action on Friday night. "We don't think it's major," Mattingly said.

Clayton Kershaw (back) will return to the Dodgers' rotation Saturday against the Mets.

Kershaw had been scheduled to make a minor league rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Oklahoma City, but that team is playing a weekend series in Omaha, where there is heavy rain in the forecast. The ace left-hander will instead jump right back into major league action, with a pretty favorable matchup versus the free-falling Mets. Kershaw has been limited to 49 innings this season due to back and biceps issues. When healthy, he has delivered a 2.76 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 53/11 K/BB ratio.
Jun 22 - 5:26 PM

Carlos Carrasco (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session early next week.

Carrasco was placed on the disabled list last Sunday with a right elbow contusion after getting drilled by a comebacker in his start Saturday against the Twins. He has already resumed playing catch and could feasibly return to the Indians' rotation before the end of June, without making a minor league rehab start.
Jun 22 - 4:46 PM

Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) played catch for the second time Friday.

Nationals manager Davey Martinez told reporters after the workout that the inflammation is nearly gone from Strasburg's shoulder, but added that there is no timetable for him to resume throwing off a mound. Strasburg has been on the disabled list since June 10. It's possible -- but obviously not certain -- that he'll be ready to return to Washington's starting rotation before the All-Star break.
Jun 22 - 4:43 PM

Eduardo Escobar (elbow) is out of the Twins' starting lineup Friday versus the Rangers.

Escobar was lifted from Thursday's series finale against the Red Sox after taking a Rick Porcello pitch off his right elbow. He only suffered a contusion and is considered day-to-day. Taylor Motter will start at third base and bat sixth Friday night against Rangers left-hander Mike Minor.
Jun 22 - 4:41 PM

Eddie Rosario (shoulder) is back in the Twins' starting lineup on Friday night against the Rangers.

He'll start in left field and bat second versus left-hander Mike Minor after missing Thursday's series finale against the Red Sox due to minor soreness in his right shoulder. Rosario is slashing .320/.359/.579 with 16 home runs, 46 RBI, six stolen bases, and 52 runs scored in 70 games this season.
Jun 22 - 4:39 PM

Mike Foltynewicz (triceps) is now lined up to return from the disabled list Monday.

Foltynewicz felt good during a bullpen session on Friday, but the Braves want to give Sunday's start against the Orioles to Brandon McCarthy, with Folty handling Monday's series opener versus the Reds. The 26-year-old right-hander had a sharp 2.16 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 94/33 K/BB ratio through 79 innings this season with Atlanta when he landed on the disabled list June 16, retroactive to June 13, with right triceps tightness.
Jun 22 - 4:35 PM

Francisco Liriano (hamstring) will return to the Tigers' starting rotation on Saturday against the Indians.

Liriano got lit up in his lone rehab start last Sunday at Triple-A Toledo, yielding eight runs on 11 hits over four innings, and it might not be wise to get him active in fantasy leagues for what could be an abbreviated return outing versus Cleveland. But he certainly carries fantasy appeal moving forward. The veteran left-hander holds a 3.90 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 45/29 K/BB ratio in 57 innings (10 starts) this season with Detroit.
Jun 22 - 4:31 PM

Jean Segura (forearm) is expected to return to the Mariners' starting lineup on Saturday.

Segura sat out Thursday after being diagnosed with an infection in his right forearm and he won't play Friday either. But the 28-year-old shortstop is on antibiotics and had the infection drained by a doctor in Boston on Friday morning. Andrew Romine is filling in at short for Seattle on Friday night against the Red Sox.
Jun 22 - 4:25 PM

Pat Neshek (lat) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with High-A Clearwater.

If all goes well, he could join the Phillies' bullpen in around 7-10 days, and he might eventually see some save opportunities. Neshek has been out all season because of a strained lat muscle. The veteran setup man signed a two-year, $16.25 million contract with Philadelphia in December after posting a 1.59 ERA in 62 1/3 innings between the Phillies and Rockies in 2017.
Jun 22 - 4:14 PM

Chris Davis is back in the Orioles' starting lineup on Friday night against the Braves.

It'll be his first live action since June 11. He was benched for 10 days to work on his swing and plate approach. Davis is starting at first base and batting seventh Friday versus Braves left-hander Sean Newcomb.
Jun 22 - 3:55 PM

Chris Archer (abdomen) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Friday afternoon.

Archer told reporters after the workout that he has "come a long way" since getting shut down due to renewed soreness in his abdomen on June 11. He initially landed on the disabled list June 5. The right-hander will throw another bullpen session on Monday and then the Rays might start thinking about setting up a timeline to plug him back into the rotation. Archer could return before the All-Star break if everything goes smoothly from here.
