Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a walk in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.

Goldschmidt launched a solo homer in the seventh inning and later added an RBI single in the ninth. The 26-year-old ranks first in the National League with 35 home runs and 121 RBI. Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen is considered the favorite for NL MVP honors, but Goldschmidt should get plenty of support on the ballot.

Franklin Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored, and the Mariners topped the Astros 7-5 on Tuesday.

Gutierrez hit his 11th homer of the season, a solo shot, off Astros starter Scott Feldman in the second inning. Gutierrez also crossed home plate in the third and fifth innings. It continues to be a charmed season for the 32-year-old, who has overcome numerous injuries to own a .310/.358/.643 line through 43 games played.

Kole Calhoun went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a solo home run as the Angels topped the Athletics on Tuesday.

Calhoun started the scoring in four-run third inning with an RBI infield single. He tacked on a solo home run in the seventh to push the Angels' lead to 6-1. The outfielder is batting .264/.321/.438 with 21 home runs and 69 RBI on the year.

Zack Greinke earned his 15th win, limiting the Giants to one run over 7 1/3 innings on Tuesday.

The Giants finally broke through for a run in the eighth inning with three consecutive one-out singles, chasing Greinke from the game. The right-hander scattered five hits and a walk overall while striking out five. The current front-runner for the NL Cy Young Award, Greinke boasts a 15-3 record with a 1.59 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP, and a 169/32 K/BB ratio over 186 2/3 innings. He'll start on the road against the Angels next.
Sep 2 - 1:03 AM

Brandon Moss hit a three-run, walk-off home run as the Cardinals came back to beat the Nationals 8-5 on Tuesday.

Moss finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, but it was the homer off Casey Janssen with two outs in the ninth inning that was the difference. It was the third homer in the last six games for Moss, who is finally starting to show why the Cardinals dealt for him at the trade deadline. He's still hitting just .220/.301/.413 with 18 homers and 57 RBI overall, but Moss is capable of continuing his recent power surge through the final few weeks of the season.
Sep 2 - 12:53 AM

Ian Kinsler went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI as the Tigers downed the Royals 6-5 on Tuesday.

Kinsler knocked an RBI single in the fourth inning before delivering a big two-run blast in the seventh. The homer, his 10th of the season, ended up being the difference in the game. It hasn't been a great year for the Tigers as a whole but the 33-year-old is doing his part, batting .306/.357/.452 with 64 RBI, 84 runs scored and eight steals through 129 games.
Sep 2 - 12:30 AM

Alex Gordon went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in his return to action against the Tigers on Tuesday.

Gordon wasted no time finding ways to contribute, lifting an RBI sacrifice fly in his first at-bat before doubling and scoring in the seventh. The 31-year-old was enjoying another fine season at the plate before a groin strain stole nearly two months from him. Now healthy, Gordon will carry a .284/.396/.464 line into the season's final month.
Sep 2 - 12:26 AM

Scott Feldman (shoulder) will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

Feldman revealed after Tuesday's start that his shoulder discomfort gradually built up during the game before it finally forced him to exit in the third. The Astros are currently rolling with a six-man rotation, but it looks like they might be forced to go back to a traditional five-man set.
Sep 1 - 11:59 PM

Glen Perkins returned to the closer role on Tuesday, allowing a run on three hits but earning the save in the Twins' 8-6 win over the White Sox.

It wasn't a smooth return to the ninth inning by any means, but the left-hander was still able to get the job done after back issues forced him out of the role last week. With Perkins taking over as closer, Kevin Jepsen returned to a setup role. Perkins now has 32 saves with a 2.68 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 46/8 K/BB ratio in 50 1/3 innings this year.
Sep 1 - 11:58 PM

Jean Segura went 2-for-4 with three RBI as the Brewers bested the Pirates 7-4 on Tuesday.

Segura had an RBI infield single in the first inning before contributing a big two-run single in the eighth. It was the first time Segura has had three RBI in a game since April 27. The shortstop is a better fantasy player than he is in real life, hitting .264/.288/.329 with four homers, 40 RBI, 43 runs scored and 20 stolen bases on the season.
Sep 1 - 11:35 PM

Kyle Schwarber's two-run home run in the seventh inning was the deciding factor in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

The slugger put the Cubs ahead 5-4 when he sent a Burke Badenhop offering over the fence in left-center. Schwarber finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored on the night. He's batting .270/.365/.552 with 13 home runs, 38 RBI, and 41 runs scored in 189 plate appearances in his rookie season.
Sep 1 - 11:10 PM

Darin Ruf went 3-for-5 with a home run and six RBI as the Phillies doubled up the Mets 14-8 on Tuesday.

Ruf extended the Phillies' lead to 5-0 in the third inning with a three-run home run to left field off of Jon Niese. He added an RBI single in the fifth, and a two-run single in the sixth. The six RBI mark a career-high for Ruf, as he hadn't even knocked in four in a game before. The 1B/OF has otherwise not done much at the plate, batting .245/.292/.406 with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 209 plate appearances.
