Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Wednesday that Bruce Rondon's right elbow is "not good."

Rondon made his first appearance since September 2 on Tuesday night and fanned all three batters he faced, but the hard-throwing right-hander apparently woke up Thursday with renewed soreness. The Tigers also lost left-hander Phil Coke recently to an elbow problem.

Andrew Heaney pitched seven innings of one-run ball, allowing only two hits to earn a win over the Yankees on Tuesday.

Heaney has looked sharp in two major league starts thus far. The Yankees' only run came courtesy Mark Teixeira's home run in the second inning. Along with allowing only two hits, Heaney walked two and struck out seven. Though he has been traded twice already, the lefty is a well-regarded prospect, so it wouldn't be surprising if he kept it up for a while. Mixed leaguers should feel comfortable adding him. Heaney's next start, however, will come at Coors Field against the Rockies.

Eduardo Nunez finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base as the Twins trumped the Reds 8-5 on Tuesday.

Nunez and the Twins racked up 15 hits against Anthony DeSclafani and the Reds bullpen. The shortstop had three of them, collecting two singles and a double. He also stole his third base of the season. Nunez' usage has been inexplicable at times -- the light-hitting shortstop has served as the team's designated hitter in 11 games this year -- but he's put up decent numbers through 33 games, hitting .305/.350/.516 with 11 RBI and 13 runs scored. Perhaps he'll begin garnering more of the playing time at short with his hot hitting.
Jul 1 - 12:35 AM

Mike Montgomery flashed terrific stuff in a shutout of the Padres on Tuesday, losing a bid for a no-hitter in the seventh inning.

Montgomery has been on fire since debuting in the majors for the first time at the beginning of June. On Tuesday, he brought a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but lost it with one out when Yangervis Solarte doubled. It was the only hit he allowed in nine innings along with four walks and seven strikeouts. Montgomery now has tossed back-to-back shutouts. The left-hander, through six starts, owns a stellar 1.62 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and a 29/12 K/BB ratio in 44 1/3 innings. He'll start in Oakland against the Athletics next.
Jul 1 - 12:35 AM

Tyler Flowers hit a solo home run in the 11th inning to lead the White Sox to a 2-1 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Flowers took reliever Miguel Socolovich deep to break a 1-1 tie. The catcher finished 2-for-5 in the game. The homer was his sixth of the season and his second in as many games. Flowers is hitting .217/.268/.369 while splitting time behind the dish for the Sox.
Jul 1 - 12:00 AM

Ryan Braun recorded four hits and scored twice in five trips to the plate in Tuesday's win over the Phillies.

Braun singled and scored in the first inning and did the same in the eighth. He's enjoyed Phillies pitching thus far as he had a three-hit night on Monday as well. The outfielder is batting .275/.343/.502 with 15 home runs, 50 RBI, 44 runs scored, and nine stolen bases on the year.
Jun 30 - 11:55 PM

Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's win against the Phillies.

Ramirez staked the Brewers to an early 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the first inning. He tacked on an important run with an RBI single in the eighth, which tied the game at 3-3 at the time. He's had a miserable 2015 season but has still drawn some trade interest. Ramirez is hitting .222/.261/.413 with nine home runs and 33 RBI.
Jun 30 - 11:53 PM

Dallas Keuchel threw eight scoreless innings as the Astros shut out the Royals 4-0 on Tuesday.

The southpaw scattered seven hits without walking a batter, mixing in seven strikeouts over his eight innings. Such lines have become pretty common for Keuchel, who improved to 10-3 with a 2.03 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with the victory. His career high in wins is 12, achieved last year, but Keuchel is threatening to match that by the All-Star break. He'll attempt to take one step closer Monday at the Indians.
Jun 30 - 11:36 PM

Dee Gordon hit a three-run, inside-the-park home run to help the Marlins best the Giants 5-3 on Tuesday.

With two on in the second inning, Gordon lifted a ball to the right-center gap that rolled. Right fielder Gregor Blanco's misplay allowed the speedy Gordon to race around and score on the hit. Gordon finished with just the one hit in five at-bats. Through Tuesday's game, Gordon is hitting .351/.370/.429 with the one home run, 40 runs scored and 26 stolen bases.
Jun 30 - 11:07 PM

Jordan Zimmermann again held the opposition scoreless, this time silencing the Braves' bats in 7 2/3 innings of work to earn a win on Tuesday.

Zimmermann tossed eight scoreless innings in his last start and hasn't allowed a run since the sixth inning on June 17 against the Rays. On Tuesday, he scattered six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Zimmermann may be starting to catch his stride, sitting on a 3.16 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and a 69/19 K/BB ratio in 99 2/3 innings. He'll try to keep it going in a home start versus the Giants next.
Jun 30 - 10:31 PM

Hanley Ramirez (hand) will return to the Red Sox' lineup on Wednesday.

Ramirez took batting practice prior to Tuesday's game and didn't have any issues with his bruised left hand. The outfielder has missed the last week of action after being hit in the hand by a line drive.
Jun 30 - 10:30 PM

Danny Salazar held the Rays to two runs -- one earned -- on just two hits over 7 2/3 innings in a 6-2 win Tuesday.

Salazar yielded just one hit over seven scoreless innings before Asdrubal Cabrera hit an RBI double in the eighth. Another run scored on a throwing error before Salazar was removed. The start was a necessary turn after two subpar outings his last two times out. The right-hander will carry a 3.80 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 101/24 K/BB ratio into Sunday's interleague matchup against the Pirates.
