Cliff Lee impressively racked up 13 strikeouts against the Braves on Friday, but was handed a tough-luck loss after surrendering just one run on three hits over eight masterful innings.

The 34-year-old southpaw was engaged in a fantastic pitching duel with Kris Medlen, trading zeroes until Chris Johnson tagged Lee for a solo homer in the eighth inning. Lee wraps up another dominant season at the front of the Phillies rotation, posting a 14-8 record, 2.87 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 222/32 K/BB ratio over 222 2/3 innings. He's as reliable as they come in fantasy leagues, and should be among the top tier of hurlers off the board in next Spring's drafts.

Charlie Morton (hip) will be activated from the disabled list to start on Monday against the Marlins.

Morton has been healthy for a while, but the Pirates wanted him to work on his mechanics as he made his way back from hip surgery. He appears to have accomplished that with a 1.33 ERA and 22 strikeouts over 20 1/3 innings during a rehab assignment. Vance Worley has been moved to the Pirates' bullpen.
May 22 - 4:35 PM

Pablo Sandoval (knee) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Sandoval remains available to pinch hit, but his left knee remains too sore when making throws. He hopes to return to the lineup at some point this weekend. Brock Holt is at third base Friday.
May 22 - 4:29 PM

Tanner Roark is expected to start either on Monday or Tuesday against the Cubs.

With Doug Fister (elbow) out indefinitely, it appears the Nationals are ready to move Roark back into the rotation. He hasn't pitched in five days, but he faced hitters on Friday and is expected to be able to get to 70 pitches during his start. The owner of a career 2.70 ERA over 36 starts, Roark should be scooped up in fantasy leagues where he remains unowned.
May 22 - 4:25 PM

Justin Verlander (triceps) will throw a simulated game on Tuesday.

If that goes well, he should then be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Verlander has been out all season with a strained right triceps but has progressed nicely the last couple weeks after resuming a throwing program. Still, he probably won't be activated until mid-June even in a best-case scenario.
May 22 - 4:17 PM

Alex Wood has been scratched from Friday's scheduled start against the Brewers due to a stomach virus.

Eric Stults will fill in. Wood should be feeling up to rejoining the rotation in a couple days, although it's unclear at the moment when the Braves will slot him back in.
May 22 - 3:51 PM

Albert Pujols (hand) is back in the Angels' lineup Friday.

Pujols sat out Thursday after being hit in the left hand by a pitch, but he wound up missing just the one game. He's batting .231/.288/.413 with seven homers for the Halos this season.
May 22 - 3:49 PM

Red Sox recalled OF Rusney Castillo from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Castillo is batting eighth Friday and starting in right field, where he should be a regular for the Red Sox most days going forward. The Cuban defector has dealt with a few injuries since spring training, but he batted .293/.341/.440 with two homers, 10 RBI and six stolen bases at Pawtucket to earn the promotion. His power/speed combo makes him worth starting in fantasy lineups right away.
May 22 - 3:35 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Yasiel Puig (hamstring) is "feeling much better" and it "may not be that much longer" before he returns.

Puig was shut down just over a week ago after having a setback with his left hamstring during his rehab assignment, but he's evidently made nice progress since then. The Dodgers have yet to reveal when the outfielder will re-start the rehab assignment, but it sounds like it could happen shortly.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reports that Cuban right-hander Norge has defected from his native country and is seeking a Major League contract.

Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan is hearing that the Dodgers are the "early favorites" to sign the right-hander. Passan also notes that "many believe (Ruiz is) the best pitcher in Cuba" and that he's a "short right-hander but will get significant bank." Ruiz turned 21 just over a month ago.

Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports that the Blue Jays haven't asked the Phillies about Cole Hamels "in months."

The report comes on the heels of a revelation from CBS Sports' Jon Heyman which stated that Hamels would not waive his no-trade clause to go to Toronto. Davidi, though, hears that their inquiry came all the way back during the GM meetings in November. Regardless of when it took place, it appears clear that Hamels isn't going to the Blue Jays.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Henderson Alvarez has been pitching through a "90 percent tear" of his right ulnar collateral ligament "for years."

This is the first we've heard about a UCL issue for Alvarez, although he had a brief elbow problem last season and there were whispers when he went on the disabled list last month that he had an elbow injury in addition to a shoulder ailment. There have been some that have pitched through ligament damage in the past, although it's hard to imagine anyone pitching with as much of a tear that Alvarez apparently has. It certainly makes him a medical red flag moving forward.
