Rangers acquired RHP Lucas Harrell and LHP Dario Alvarez from the Braves for INIF Travis Demeritte.

The Rangers add to their stable of bullpen options with the pair of relievers. For his part, the 31-year-old Harrell worked to a 3.38 ERA with a 21/12 K/BB ratio across 29 1/3 innings out of the pen for the Braves prior to the trade. He figures to slot into a middle relief role.

Prince Fielder (neck) will undergo fusion surgery on Friday.

As was expected. This is a killer blow for the Rangers, but it is an even more troubling setback for the 32-year-old slugger, himself. Fielder already underwent a season-ending fusion surgery on his neck in 2014. With this new surgery upcoming, he will miss the remainder of the 2016 season at the very least. 2017 and beyond could be in doubt, too. His contract runs through 2020.

Miguel Cabrera launched a go-ahead solo homer in the top of the ninth inning to push the Tigers past the Red Sox 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Boston.

Cabrera pounced on Brad Ziegler with two outs in the top of the ninth to snap a 3-3 tie and secure a three-game sweep for the visiting Tigers. It was Cabrera's 21st home run of the season and the 14th go-ahead homer in the ninth inning or later in his 14-year major league career. Cabrera also had two singles in Wednesday's victory and he's now slashing .301/.382/.522 over 101 games this season.

Alex Dickerson homered for the fourth consecutive game Wednesday as the Padres beat the Blue Jays by a score of 8-4 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Dickerson went deep for a solo shot in the top of the eighth inning, becoming the first Padres rookie to homer in four straight games. The 26-year-old outfielder has been on an absolute tear over the last week and he has a clear path to regular playing time down the stretch with Melvin Upton now out of the picture in San Diego. Buy, buy, buy.

Stephen Strasburg fired seven scoreless innings in the Nationals' defeat of the Indians on Wednesday.

Strasburg thoroughly out-dueled Indians starter Carlos Carrasco, who gave up three runs in six innings. Cleveland's offense managed just three hits and two walks against Strasburg while also whiffing seven times. The ace right-hander stands 14-1 with a 2.68 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 155/36 K/BB ratio in 127 2/3 innings this season. He'll get the Diamondbacks on the road next.
Jul 27 - 3:30 PM

Adam Conley threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday in the Marlins' 11-1 rout of the Phillies.

Conley was staked to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and went into cruise control, scattering eight hits -- all singles -- across his 6 2/3 shutout frames. The left-hander can now boast a 3.21 ERA and 155 strikeouts over his last 162 2/3 innings dating back to August 2015. He was one of Rotoworld's favorite fantasy sleepers leading into the 2016 campaign. Up next is a tough road matchup against the Cubs.

Nelson Cruz (foot) is out of the Mariners' starting lineup Wednesday against the Pirates.

Cruz left Tuesday's game after fouling a ball off his foot. It's just sore, and he's considered day-to-day. Seth Smith is starting in right field for the M's on Wednesday night at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Jul 27 - 3:05 PM

Gregory Polanco is out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Mariners.

Polanco went 4-for-5 and slugged his 13th home run of the season on Tuesday night against Seattle, but Sean Rodriguez will start in right field and bat seventh Wednesday versus Mariners lefty James Paxton.
Jul 27 - 2:17 PM

Denard Span is just getting a day off Wednesday.

Span has battled a cold recently and is a bit worn out, but this is not an injury situation and he should be fine for Thursday's big series opener against the Nationals. Gregor Blanco is starting in center field and batting leadoff for the Giants on Wednesday afternoon against Reds right-hander Dan Straily.

Brett Anderson (back) is scheduled to go three innings in a rehab start Thursday with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

It will be his rehab debut, and he'll probably have another 3-4 minor league outings on top of it before the Dodgers consider him a realistic option for their starting rotation. Anderson has been out all season following March back surgery. He is aiming to make his first start for Los Angeles in mid-August.

Rival executives talking to the Phillies about Jeremy Hellickson tell ESPN's Jayson Stark that the club is asking for "one of your top five prospects."

The quality of that top five obviously varies greatly from organization to organization, but the point is the Phillies want something significant in return for the 29-year-old right-hander, who boasts a 3.65 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 107/28 K/BB ratio in 125 2/3 innings this season. Stark says Philadelphia would be content with getting a draft pick when Hellickson departs via free agency this winter. He is probably well on his way to a qualifying offer, and he is a Scott Boras client.
