Max Scherzer will start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Athletics on Friday.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland will trust Scherzer with the opening game after he went 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and 240/56 K/BB ratio over 214 1/3 innings during the regular season. He'll be followed by Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez, and Doug Fister. This sets Scherzer up to start a potential deciding Game 5.

Kevin Siegrist (forearm, shoulder) is expected to return to the Cardinals' bullpen on Wednesday.

Siegrist was placed on the disabled list at the end of May with a forearm strain and then developed a shoulder issue during his rehab. The 25-year-old left-hander is now finally back to 100 percent health, having made five scoreless appearances at Double-A Springfield.

Erick Aybar (groin) is back in the Angels' starting lineup on Tuesday night versus the Orioles.

Aybar missed a couple of games with soreness in his right groin. He's batting fifth and starting at shortstop on Tuesday against Orioles righty Miguel Gonzalez.
Jul 22 - 4:59 PM

Asdrubal Cabrera (back) is not playing Tuesday.

Cabrera left Monday's series-opener against the Twins with back spasms. He's considered day-to-day. Mike Aviles is starting at shortstop Tuesday night in Minnesota.
Jul 22 - 4:37 PM

Indians recalled RHP Danny Salazar from Triple-A Columbus.

Salazar will start for the Indians on Tuesday night against the Twins at pitcher-friendly Target Field. He posted a 2.32 ERA and 39 strikeouts over his last 31 innings (five starts) at Columbus and is worth a flier in most standard fantasy leagues. But control is still a major issue for the talented 24-year-old right-hander.
Jul 22 - 4:23 PM

Dodgers activated RHP Josh Beckett from the 15-day disabled list.

Beckett will return to the Dodgers' starting rotation on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh after sitting out for over two weeks with a hip injury. He still has a labrum tear and some cysts, but the veteran right-hander is going to try to pitch through the discomfort with the help of cortisone injections. Beckett boasts a 2.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 95/32 K/BB ratio in 103 2/3 innings this season.
Jul 22 - 3:57 PM

Rangers placed C Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Soto lasted just three games on the Rangers' active roster. He missed the first three-and-a-half months of the 2014 season following knee surgery and will now likely be sidelined through mid-August. Robinson Chirinos will again serve as the primary catcher in Texas.
Jul 22 - 3:46 PM

Athletics activated OF Josh Reddick from the 15-day disabled list.

Reddick wound up missing over three weeks with a strained right knee. He went 9-for-21 with three home runs and eight RBI on his five-game minor league rehab assignment and will try to build off that offensive success in his return to the majors. The 27-year-old outfielder has a disappointing .229/.296/.358 batting line in 54 games this season for Oakland.
Jul 22 - 3:39 PM

Hanley Ramirez (wrist) is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup Tuesday night versus the Pirates.

Ramirez was the struck by pitches on the left shoulder and wrist Sunday night in St. Louis. X-rays have been taken and came back negative, but the shortstop is still pretty sore. Justin Turner will again fill in.
Jul 22 - 3:31 PM

Yasiel Puig (hand) is again out of the Dodgers' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Pirates.

Puig has now missed three consecutive games since taking a Joe Kelly pitch off his left hand on Saturday afternoon. A second X-ray was taken Monday and the results were negative, but Puig still has a bad bruise. Matt Kemp is in right field Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
Jul 22 - 3:29 PM

Cubs designated 2B Darwin Barney for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Emilio Bonifacio's return from the disabled list. It was increasingly obvious that Barney's days in Chicago were numbered, especially with the recent emergence of Arismendy Alcantara. The 28-year-old was originally drafted by the Cubs in 2007 and has compiled a .244/.290/.335 batting line over 542 games with the club.
Jul 22 - 3:24 PM

Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Aaron Sanchez from Triple-A Buffalo.

Sanchez is a highly-regarded starting pitching prospect, but the Jays will break him into the majors as a reliever. The 22-year-old has posted a 3.95 ERA and 84/57 K/BB ratio over 100 1/3 innings this season between Double- and Triple-A.
