Hector Ambriz has elected free agency.

Ambriz posted a 5.70 ERA across 43 games for the Astros this season. He's got a decent arm, though, so someone will take a shot on him.

Matt Kemp went 3-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in Tuesday's 8-4 win against the Braves.

Kemp's two-run homer to the opposite field in the second off Atlanta starter Aaron Harang put the Dodgers up 2-1, and his two-run shot to dead center in the seventh gave Los Angeles a 7-4 lead. He went 103 plate appearances between hitting his last homer on June 25. This was the seventh multi-homer game of Kemp's career. His slash line is up to .282/.347/.453 to go with 10 homers and 44 RBI.

Yasiel Puig finished 4-for-5 and missed the cycle by a homer in Tuesday's 8-4 win against Atlanta.

You'll recall that Puig went 4-for-5 with three triples and a double on Friday. The center fielder ranks second in the National League in batting average (.318), slugging percentage (.545) and OPS (.949). He's on pace for 18 homers, 82 RBI and 89 runs.

Francisco Liriano struck out 11 Giants, yielding one run over seven innings to earn his third victory on Tuesday.

In addition to his season-high punch out total, Liriano issued only one free pass and scattered four hits. The only one that really counted was Mike Morse's solo homer in the third, but Pittsburgh fortunately already held a 3-0 lead. Liriano was dominant from there on out, and Tony Watson and Mark Melancon pitched in an inning of shutout relief work apiece. The left-handed Liriano entered the game 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts since returning from the disabled list (oblique strain). Many owners jumped ship when he hit the shelf with a 1-6 record and 4.60 ERA last month. That just means there's room on board for the rest of us, who should make sure the former Twin is owned across formats. Liriano travels to Arizona on Sunday.

Brett Gardner continued his hot hitting on Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and three runs scored in the Yankees' 12-11 victory over the Rangers.

Gardner is now 7-for-10 with three home runs and five runs scored in the first two games of the series. His three runs give him 67 runs scored for the year, sixth-most in the American League. The 30-year-old's hit parade has his triple slash line up to .283/.357/.455, and if the season ended today he would set personal bests in both slugging percentage and OPS.
Jul 30 - 12:47 AM

J.P. Arencibia had a ridiculous night at the plate Tuesday, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI against the Yankees.

Arencibia connected on a solo shot in the fifth inning before blasting a grand slam in the seventh. His 12 total bases were a career high for a single game, and it was the eighth two-homer game of his career. The power has always been present, but his .183/.223/.404 line is what keeps him from being a fantasy option.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics are also "in the mix" for Jon Lester.

It would certainly be a stunner if they were able to land Lester after picking up Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel earlier this month. Rosenthal has also reported that the Cardinals, Dodgers and Pirates are in negotiations with the Red Sox regarding Lester. Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com also hears that the Blue Jays and Orioles are in on Lester, though WEEI.com's Rob Bradford and Alex Speier are saying those two teams are out of it. Lester has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start and is expected to be dealt soon.
Jul 30 - 12:35 AM

Yoenis Cespedes finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI -- including the game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning -- and a run scored in the Athletics' 7-4 comeback win over the Astros on Tuesday.

Cespedes filled up the stat sheet, as he also stole his third base of the season in the win. The three-hit game was his first since June 11, but Cespedes has hits in nine of his last 10 games to pull his slash line up to .258/.306/.468. A notoriously streaky hitter, the 28-year-old is swinging a hot bat right now.
Jul 30 - 12:13 AM

Kyle Gibson struck out seven, allowing only two hits, over seven shutout innings in the Twins' 2-1 defeat of the Royals on Tuesday.

Gibson surrendered just two singles and walked two, needing just 95 pitches to get through his seven innings of work. The start was especially good to see because Gibson had missed his previous turn in the rotation due to back stiffness. The right-hander now owns a 3.94 ERA through 20 starts this year. Showing no lingering effects from the back injury, Gibson should be ready to roll for his next start, scheduled for Sunday at the White Sox.
Jul 29 - 11:37 PM

Manny Machado sent the Orioles home winners, belting a walk-off solo home run to left field in the 12th inning on Tuesday against the Angels.

Machado went into the at-bat 1-for-5 with an RBI double, and wasted no time ending the ballgame as he was the first batter reliever Cory Rasmus faced in the 12th. The third baseman has a respectable .268/.314/.430 slash line with 11 home runs and 27 RBI this season.
Jul 29 - 11:16 PM

Henderson Alvarez threw seven scoreless innings in the Marlins' 3-0 shutout of the Nationals on Tuesday.

Alvarez had one sticky situation in the second inning that required a bit of magic -- and some luck -- but he otherwise quieted the Nationals over his seven innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits and walked four on the evening. The All-Star moved to 8-5 with a 2.48 ERA through 22 starts this season, and he'll square off with the Reds on Sunday.
Jul 29 - 11:06 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies have had no offers and "no meaningful dialogue" with teams inquiring on Cole Hamels.

Rosenthal adds that the Phils have also not made "any specific requests" in talks and a potential Hamels trade is the "least likely" to go down of all the ones Philly is contemplating. While Hamels may technically be on the trade block, Philadelphia understandably wants a ton in return and it's looking like teams probably won't be willing to give up what it would take. Hamels boasts a 2.55 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 133/39 K/BB ratio this season.
