Angels sent LHP Brandon Sisk outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Part of some housecleaning for the Angels, who removed some players from their 40-man roster Tuesday. Sisk, who was acquired in the Ervin Santana deal last winter, didn't pitch at all this season following Tommy John surgery.

Kennys Vargas drove in five runs as the Twins routed the Tigers for the second game in a row in Saturday's win, the first game of a double-header.

The Twins were coming off of a 20-6 drubbing of the Tigers on Friday and kept it going on Saturday. Vargas knocked in a run with a double in the second inning, another run with a sacrifice fly in the third, then cleared the bases with a three-run double in the seventh. He finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon. The 24-year-old rookie continues to perform well, slashing .329/.366/.553 with four home runs and 22 RBI in his first 93 plate appearances as a major leaguer.

Indians placed C Yan Gomes on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Gomes suffered the injury when he was struck with a foul tip on Thursday. He's already feeling better, but the Indians will play it safe and give him around a week of rest. Roberto Perez has been filling in at catcher.

Carlos Beltran went 2-for-4 with a solo home run as the Yankees defeated the White Sox on Saturday.

Beltran homered in the sixth inning off of Scott Carroll, extending the Yankees' lead to 4-2. The veteran has been battling elbow soreness lately and entered Saturday's contest in a 2-for-28 slump. Beltran owns a .233/.291/.416 slash line with 15 home runs and 46 RBI.

Nationals top pitching prospect Lucas Giolito has been shut down for the rest of the 2014 season.

The Nats didn't want to put too much stress on the highly-touted 20-year-old in his first season back from Tommy John elbow surgery. Giolito, the 16th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, registered a 2.20 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 110/28 K/BB ratio in 98 innings (20) starts this season for Low-A Hagerstown. He could reach the majors by 2016.

Padres activated RHP Andrew Cashner from the 15-day disabled list.

Cashner will take the mound for the Padres on Saturday against the Diamondbacks in his first start since June 18. It's hard to know exactly what to expect out of the gate from the 27-year-old right-hander after such a long absence due to a shoulder injury, but he has shown in the past that he is very capable of dominating when healthy.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that Bartolo Colon has gone on revocable waivers.

If Colon clears waivers, he could be traded to any team this year. If not, he can only be dealt to the team awarded the claim. That means every other team would have to pass on claiming him for the Angels to have a shot at him. One imagines the Mets would have had a better shot at getting him through waivers a week ago. Now that Garrett Richards is down, some AL team will probably claim him just to ensure the Angels can't get him.

Red Sox signed outfielder Rusney Castillo to a seven-year, $72.5 million contract through 2020.

Castillo passed his physical, and the signing was confirmed. He'll proceed to join a minor league team once he gets his work visa, and he should be up with the Red Sox in September. According to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, Castillo gets a $5.4 million signing bonus, $100,000 in 2014, $10.5 million each in 2015-17, $11 million each in 2018-19 and $13.5 million in 2020. The last year is voidable, allowing Castillo to become a free agent after 2019.

Marcell Ozuna went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI in Friday's 13-5 win over the Rockies.

The grand slam came in the ninth inning off of Rockies' reliever Juan Nicasio. It was Ozuna's 19th home run this season. The slew of RBI brought him up to 70 on the year. Ozuna had been struggling this August (.210/.300/.371), so maybe this grand slam gets him going. For the year he's hitting .261/.316/.440.

Eduardo Escobar homered, tripled and drove in two in Friday's tilt with the Tigers.

The triple was Escobar's first of the season. He ended up one double shy of the cycle. In addition to that triple and his second inning home run off of Robbie Ray, Escobar collected two singles and scored three runs. The offensive outburst was certainly unexpected for Minnesota's number eight hitter. He's slashing .272/.315/.391 this season.

Josh Harrison went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI as the Pirates beat the Brewers 8-3 on Friday.

Harrison broke out of a 7-for-38 slump with the three-hit game. He hit a two-run double in the second inning, had an RBI single in the fourth and hit a two-run homer in the eighth. Harrison had just one run driven in the entire month of August before the outburst. Even with the slump, Harrison is still batting .308/.344/.496 with 11 homers in his breakout year.

Jon Singleton hit a go-ahead three-run homer off of Indians closer Cody Allen on Friday, propelling the Astros to a 5-1 win.

The clubs entered the ninth inning tied at one, but a defensive miscue allowed Singleton the chance to pull the game out. The home run was Singleton's twelfth of the season and the three RBI put him to 40 RBI. Singleton's problem at the major league level has been a complete inability to hit for average. He fits in well on the Astros (Jose Altuve notwithstanding). On the season, Singleton is batting .186/.290/.364.
