FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Mariners will interview Athletics bench coach Chip Hale for their managerial vacancy on Wednesday.

Hale has been the third base coach for Oakland since 2012 and previously worked as a coach with the Mets and Diamondbacks. He has managerial experience in the minor leagues. Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon and Giants bench coach Ron Wotus are among the other names linked to the M's job.

Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a solo home run to help the Cubs take down the Cardinals on Wednesday.

It was a back-and-forth affair between the NL Central rivals. Rizzo hit a solo home run in the third inning to push the Cubs' lead to 3-1. He added a two-run double in the fifth, making it a 5-2 ballgame. He's now on a seven-game hitting streak, batting .341/.474/.593 overall with five home runs, 15 RBI, and seven stolen bases.

Joc Pederson belted a pair of solo home runs, but the Dodgers nevertheless lost to the Brewers on Wednesday.

The Dodgers were behind 5-0 after the first inning, so it was a matter of playing catch-up from there. Pederson did his best, homering in the fifth to make it 5-2, then homering again in the eighth to make it 6-3. The rookie has been on a power surge, hitting seven home runs in his last nine games, bringing his total up to nine on the season with 18 RBI and a .272/.423/.667 triple-slash line.

Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI to help the Braves edge the Phillies on Wednesday.

Freeman broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning with an RBI double, then pushed the Braves' lead to 6-1 in the fifth inning with a two-run double. Phillies pitching has revitalized Freeman's bat as he logged seven hits in 12 at-bats in the series. He's now batting .250/.301/.544 with five home runs and 17 RBI on the season.

Astros purchased the contract of OF Preston Tucker from Triple-A Fresno.

Tucker has put up big numbers in the minors for a few years now, and he's got 10 homers and a .320/.378/.650 line in 25 games at Triple-A Fresno this season. He might not be up for long, but the 24-year-old could make a strong impression during his stint with the big club.
May 6 - 10:23 PM

Astros placed OF George Springer on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Springer ran into the outfield wall in Tuesday's game and was being tested for concussion symptoms after the contest. The Astros are expected to promote Preston Tucker to take Springer's roster spot. Concussions are notoriously touchy, so it's unclear how long Springer might be sidelined.
May 6 - 10:16 PM

Dilson Herrera went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and a two-run home run as the Mets topped the Orioles on Wednesday.

Herrera entered the night with one hit (a single) in 14 plate appearances since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. He started the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, then provided insurance with a two-run home run off of Brad Brach in the sixth. Herrera had been hitting well in the minors; the Mets are hoping some of that eventually translates while he's up in the majors.
May 6 - 10:12 PM

Mike Leake fired eight shutout innings to pick up his second win of the season on Wednesday against the Pirates.

Leake scattered six hits -- all singles -- while walking none and striking out two. He's gone eight innings without allowing a run in back-to-back starts as he did it against the Braves his last time out. Now 2-1 with a 2.47 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, and a 27/10 K/BB ratio, Leake will look to make it three in a row as he faces the Braves at home in his next start.
May 6 - 9:46 PM

Joey Votto was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Pirates for spiking his helmet.

Votto made contact with umpire Chris Conroy while arguing the ejection, which is likely to draw further punishment (perhaps even a suspension). Votto also exchanged words with Pirates starter Gerrit Cole before heading into the visitors clubhouse at PNC Park. It's rare to see such an outburst from the thoughtful 31-year-old first baseman.
May 6 - 7:53 PM

Ian Kennedy held the Giants to one run over seven innings in the Padres' lopsided 9-1 win Wednesday.

Giants starter Chris Heston had no answer for the Padres' bats, but Kennedy had no problem silencing the Giants'. The right-hander allowed just six hits without walking a batter, striking out five. Kennedy has rattled off two straight wins after a bumpy return from the disabled list in late April, and he's now 2-1 with a still-unsightly 5.03 ERA. An interleague tilt with the Mariners is on tap for Tuesday.
May 6 - 7:43 PM

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports Jarrod Saltalamacchia could sign with a club as early as Thursday.

Cafardo notes the Red Sox, who have now lost Christian Vazquez and Ryan Hanigan for significant lengths of time, are not interested. Those who are include the Mariners, Orioles, Royals and Diamondbacks. We should know soon enough where his new home will be.
May 6 - 7:23 PM

Corey Dickerson (foot) is out of the Rockies' lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks.

Dickerson had a flare-up of his plantar fasciitis so he'll get a rest in the nightcap. It's unclear whether the recurrence will force him to miss any time beyond Wednesday. Rafael Ynoa started in left field for the Rockies in Wednesday night's game.
